I'm looking to buy a new digital camera and was wondering if you guys could recommend one that would be best. I don't really wanna spend much more than $300. I was thinking about Nikon, they have a really good reputation. Any internet stores with good prices?

Check out www.dpreview.com they have some good indepth reviews. As well as reader reviews. I have a Kodak DX6340. It's 3.1 megapixels and can take video as well with sound.

I have found that your best bet with digital cameras is to buy one from a manufacturer who originally made C41 proceess film type cameras like Nikon, Canon.... etc. You get much better build quality and the optics are much better (generally) than say, HP or some computer company like that.

Exactly what I was going to say my3rdskyline, and have infact said before in many other threads, and on other forums.

Get either a Canon, a Nikon, or a Sony.
Canon make the BEST by far digital cameras. They are experts on both sides of the technology, they are father electronic and digital image processing technology, and have been doing it since it since the idea was thought of.

Nikon make great cameras, and in a camera its the optical side of it thats most important. They lack many of the features the canons do, but only becasue they lack in the electronic side of things. But if your only looking for a point and shoot camera, and have no use for more advanced features they an excellent camera.

The Sonys are in a similar area to the Canons, only they use optics from another company (Carl Zeus) but are masters of all things electronic.
However thier lack of knowledge when it comes to cameras does show through if your looking to do more than point and shoot, and wish to explore the limits of what your camera can do.
