You ignorant fool!

There are more people play and watch Field Hockey than Ice Hokey.

Soft ball is played by more countries than Baseball. (we are the world champions.)
More people play Rugby and Cricket than (Ice)Hockey, Basketball Football, Baseball and boxing combined.

In a typical game of international Rugby players weighing 250lbs will slam into each other while running hard out, but they are not wearing any padding or protective clothing. thier just tough!
Many rugby players who fail to make the All Blacks head off to the US to play American football becuase its easier, and softer.

Soccer is the worlds most popular sport. It is played by more people, watched by more poeple, and invloves more money than any other sport ever. America has never done well on an international level.

The World Championship rally comes in a close second in terms of the number of people who watch it, and again America has never done well. There are no American Teams, or even American cars, and there are no American drivers in the top group, in fact there isnt even an American Round of the WRC. (the FIA is trying to set one up for next year)

F1 comes in a close 3rd behind the WRC, and yet again there is no American based team, and no American made cars, or an American driver. There is however an American round. (but its not watched by very many americans)

America dominates in a very small number of sports that are only played in america by americans, so there is no compititon from other countries.

Try looking outside your closed little box you claim to be your world.

Wether we do well at any sport or not, at least we know pretty much all sports, how to play them, and pretty much play and get involved in them all. It suprises me that some American's don't even know what Rugby or Cricket is.

Another thing I find REALLY HARD to understand is this....

When they go to school, they have to learn all the States in America, and there is heaps of states to remember, a pretty hard task, aswell as this they learn the countries (I assume), all but 1, New Zealand.

But then I stop and realise that the world map that they see hasn't even got New Zealand on it, it's off to the side. So I guess they are all excused for not knowing New Zealand.

Gang$tarr Americans THINK they dominate golf but the horrible truth is that there has nver been a good American golfer since the legendary Jack Nichauls, Tiger Woods got 6th in the NZ Open he had to bow down to a Kiwi and an Aussie golfer, also Golf is a boring game played by middle aged company executives.

Like Moppie said Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, Softball, Field Hockey, F1 and WRC each have a much larger fan base than Football (Although I am a fan), Baseball and Ice hockey put together because they are international sports and then there is Indy Cars COME ON!!!!! they are a thing of the past, I think Touring cars and F1 have left them for dead.

Ice Hockey, Football and Baseball are played by Americans and Americans only Only Basketball is an American sport that is internationally recognised (Another game I like).

Regarding your statement about getting hit by a 250lb guy and a 100% chance of being injured BULLSHIT!!!!! Jonah Lomu wieghs about that and if I remember rightly in the 1995 Rugby World Cup Semi-Final he ran trampled right over English fullback Mike Catt who is a weedy fella with his sprigged Rugby boots and Mike was quite allright. 250lb's is the Average wieght of a Front Row forward who are usually the tacklers, yet there are shit all injuries in Rugby and why is that IT IS BECAUSE THEY AREN'T BLOODY SOFTIES!!!!!!!!!

Cricket I must agree is boring and doesn't count for much

Having made this statement I tell also state that I intend no offense to any Americans here, this post is solely to prove Gang$tarr wrong and back up Moppies statement a bit.

Last I heard,Jonah is about 6'5",120 kgs(270lb),and takes size 15 boots.I remember this,because just by coincidence,so am I.Even so, there's no way I could dish it out like Jonah..The man is A HUMAN BULLDOZER.Pad him up like a sissy,and you'd just slow him down.American football?its an oxymoron.

You guys ought to listen to George Carlin talk about sports. He got it right except for his take on hockey :D Things like sailing aren’t a sport – it’s a way to get someplace. Riding a bus isn’t a sport, why the hell should sailing be a sport. And swimming, swimming isn’t a sport, swimming is a way to keep from drowning!

Anyway – you get the idea. I know soccer is the most popular field game in the world, but that doesn’t make it exciting or entertaining. I don’t know the history of soccer, when it started and why it became so popular. All I know is that the US created games of Baseball and Basketball are growing in popularity every year. I’ve read that basketball may eventually replace soccer as the number one game in the world.

Anyway - hockey is still the greatest sport their is. Football players are sissies for only playing once a week. Cricket is a silly game for people who cant can’t throw or hit a baseball. Rugby players have been hit in the head a few to many times. Baseball – well, I happen to like it but I know that it’s nearly as boring to watch as soccer.

one word there... um, OLYMPICS!! Who gets the most medals every 2 years? To the best of my knowledge the U.S. has been number 1 with medals, everytime i have watched the olympics
and those are all international sports playing against other countries.... that's the main thing i made my judgement on

And Jimmy, i'm a golf guru :) and don't tell me american players don't dominate. There is the occasional good player from other countries, but most of the good players from other countries are LONG gone... greg norman and gary player to name a couple. Now even comparing golfers that are gone, look at jack nicklaus, arnold palmer, sam snead, the legendary bobby jones.
The PGA is the hardest tour to get on.
and the TOP 3 players in the 2002 official rankings are from the U.S. (Woods, Mickelson and Duval)

Tiger Woods, is THE greatest golfer to ever play the game. He can't win EVERY tournament, and it's pretty much known that every tournament Tiger enters, every other player plays for 2nd place. Even if Tiger Woods didn't play in ANY golf tournaments for a whole year, he would still be number 1 in the world rankings, that's how many points he has from winning tournaments.
He's 1 of only 2 people that have ever won 4 majors in a row! like come on, if another country produces a golfer like that, than i'll give it respect. but if we have Tiger than it's over :) He shatters most records in the majors, he broke over 10 records during the U.S open. He has only missed 1 cut during his whole career in the PGA. He has the lowest scoring average of any player to ever play in the PGA tour. Tiger won 28 of his first 100 PGA events (which is unbelievable, for a rookie) The masters are the most important event of the year, and the first masters that Tiger played in, he won!! and not only won but he was the youngest player to win (21 years old), and he won by a margin of 12 strokes!!, with the lowest score ever recorded at augusta. I could go on, but i'll finish off saying that tiger is a born golfer, when he was 2 years old he entered an under-10 year old golf competition and won.

also 250 pounds isn't very heavy for a football player...... I just can't imagine how somebody calls football soft. I've watched rugby several times on TV, and it doesn't seem all that "hard". They wear not too much equipment, yes that's true, barely any. But they don't hit that hard, it seems like tackles in an american football game are so much harder. I'm not saying that football is more "hard" than rugby, but it's not soft by any means. Look at the game, there are only like 2 main pieces of equipment, shoulder pads and a helmet! What's so bad about that, when players are getting concussions and breaking necks from the huge hits, it only makes sense.
and how come the Superbowl is the most watched TV event each year? This counts the entire world, it gets out to like over a 100 countries (i think) There is no other event that gets as much TV covearage. That is why all the biggest companies want to air their new commercials during the superbowl.

I'm just wondering why the Superbowl is the most watched event when it seems like everybody outside of Canada and the U.S. hates football?!

somebody said that rugby players come over to the states to play football?! maybe their are some, but i can't think of 1 good football player that's not from the U.S or Canada.

Also moppie you say sports played only by americans, etc. etc.
Hockey has been big internationally. Russia, Czech, sweden.... to name a couple really good hockey teams.

This is a good thread though, i love discussing sports. That way i can learn things i didn't know about sports in other countries

and moppie don't call me a fool all you have to do is correct me for god sakes. You were wrong by saying that americans dominate at sports that only americans play, did i call you a fool? no. so i'd appreciate you not flaming every chance you get.

just a note, i agree that the US gets lots of medals but how many athletes do they usually send LOTS, so they've got more of a chance of getting more.

yes, that's true, but we do have amazing athletes.... and i wrote that because moppie said that the U.S. don't do well on an international level. So if the olympics aren't an international level, i don't know what the hell is.

G$ you seem to be confusing the USA with the rest of the world.
The SuperBowl is the biggest TV event in NORTH AMERICA!
F1, the WRC and the soccer world championship are all bigger.
The Soccer world championship was avlaible to be watched by 1/5th of the worlds population, wihch is basicly everyone in the world with access to a TV. The superbowl gets only a fraction of that sort of coverage.

In terms of all the sports played in the world the Olympics makes up only a small part of it. It also only occurs every 4 years.
America wins a lot of medals yes, but they also have the largest Team, and spend the most money. If you look at the number of medals won for every member on the team, then the US starts to slide from thier top spot, and Countries like NZ and Australia make it comfterbly into the top 10.

I doubt there are many American Foot ballers who weigh a lot more than 250lbs, thats pretty fucken heavy, and pretty fucken big. Get much bigger and they wouldn't be able to move fast enough to play the game.

Try looking at the world out side of your own sheltered little hole, There are another 5.75 Billion people living in the world out side of the USA, and a lot of them like to play sports.

and dont tell me off. its just pathetic.

It's not the biggest TV even only in North America, i checked the ratings and the SuperBowl is the most watched event in the world

The superbowl was watched by approx. 131.2 million people in the U.S and almost 900 million internationally last year, which is the 5th most watched TV program in history, it was broadcast to 180 countries.
I got these figures from the CREDTv website (Center for Research on the Effects of Television)

So "Try looking at the world out side of your own sheltered little hole"
i think that's what you should do

If you are so enamoured with all things American, you should quit your pampered life in Canada, travel back to the U.S.(preferably by bus,you might meet some real people for a change),and enlist in the armed forces.A few years in you may end up half as clever as you think you are now.

The Super Bowl was not watched by 1 billion people, that was just some bad and well debunked marketing hype. The promoters of the Soccer world cup final tried the same thing. It was accesable to be watched by 1 billion people but I can assure you that 1/5th of the worlds population did not actualy sit down and watch it. To believe they did is simply, well, read Mt T's post, I think he summed it up nicely. :D
