Electric door not closing completely

I've got an electric door that -on occasion does not completely close at the rear. Usually by reclicking the button to open and close the door it will latch. Is there any way to adjust the latch to ensure closure?

I have same problem with the rear electric slider not completly closing at thr rear. Is there a solution?

I had all kinds of problems with my passenger side sliding door including a seemingly related occasional dead battery. At least 3 garages checked it out and checked the battery and charging system; all stated everything was fine. Finally, with a battery hydrometer, I detected a failing cell within the battery. A new battery cured all of the door problems including the appearance of not closing and latching at the rear.

My 2002 Windstar passenger automatic sliding door was doing the same dang thing. I took the vechical into my local Ford dealership and they read a "Technical Bulletin" from Ford that describes this EXACT problem. According to the technical bulleting, the door latches are defective and need to be replaced. The cost was $118! And this is NOT a safety recall. How a door that does not close or lock and it's a known technical problem cannot be a recall is beyond me.

Ford told me to call the Federal Highway Department so they can collect the information and turn it into a recall. So everyone, PLEASE call the Federal Highway Department or visit there website and report your problem.

For the 99+ Windstars there are a couple things to check if you door is sliding closed and then popping open a little. The latch on the sliding doors has two latches, primary and secondary. This means that the door latched the primary but had too much resistance to latch the secondary in the time allowed causing the door to quit which causes the pop and a little out movement.

With the sliding door open look from the rear at the rolling hinge. If there is a black plastic piece attached to the side of the bracket remove it, this was in place during painting at the factory and should only remain on for manual sliding doors.

Next if your vehicle was manufactured in 3/99 or before there are new door seals that provide easier closing.

Last look at the rear of the door, it should be slightly outboard of the rear quarter panel (.5-1mm). If your door is even or slightly in then it will increase closing effort and it might not latch. You can adjust this by moving the rear striker.

Also check both the front and rear latches to make sure they are centered in the strikers, if they are off a little it will increase closing effort.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up cleaning the lower roller and track that was apparently lubricated with never seize and sprayed wd-40 on all of the rollers and latches, worked it in, and it seems to have corrected the problem. If that didn't work I planned on adjusting the post.
