Window Tint Removal

Anyone ever done this? I bought my car with this stuff on the windows already, and it is starting to look like crap. The passenger side window has a bunch of wrinkles in it, and although I can't say for sure, I think this stuff probably put my rear window defroster out of commission, or more likely, whoever put it on, as I have alredy metioned in a previous thread:

To me this stuff is kinda like t-tops and/or sunroofs, in regards that it looks good at first, but almost always end up causing problems. With t-tops and/or sunroofs, they always seem to leak and squeak after time, and window tint always seems to winkle and crack and peel.

Anyways I was wondering if anyone else has taken this stuff off, and what thier expierence was with it. Does it leave a bunch of residue behind on the glass that I will be scrubbing off for the rest of my life, or will it come off fairly easy. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think that all window tinting will wrinkle, crack or peel. My tint in 6 years old and is fine, except for where I scraped it with my seatbelt.

But to answer your question, there will be a sticky film left on the window after you peel it off. You can use "Goo Gone" or some other type of cleaner solvent.

Yeah, Ive seen a few that didn't deteriorate, but I would have to say I 've seen more bad ones than good. I would think it's mostly the way it's put on that makes the difference. Most the tint jobs I've seen, are by people who have done it themselves, but i've seen a couple of crappy professional jobs too.

I have only ever had it on two vehicles myself, including this car, but both were poorly done. The passenger side window on my present car is all wrinkled, and looking through it, is like looking through the bottom of a drinking glass, everything looks all distorted. Not to mention it makes the car look like hell. So at this point I'm probably just gonna peel it off, and be done with it.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like something I'm gonna have to set aside a couple of hours for, to clean all the goo off. I was hoping that wasn't the case. Oh well, it'll give me something to do I guess.

I recently took all of the tint off of my windows and to tell you the truth, i tried Goo Gone and a few other things, but the best and cheapest way to get that left over tint glue off that I found anyway is soapy water and a razor blade. Get a windex bottle or something and mix a little dish detergent and water... workes very well. The gas thing would work well too.

No doubt it would, but I'm not to sure I want to use it inside the car like that. I'll probably just go to the local auto store, and get a can of Goo Gone, or whatever they have, like HiFlow suggested.

I don't seem to have much luck with tinting. My last Mustang, I had my drivers side window smashed, (twice actualy), and both times they did a horrible job putting the tint back on. And that was from two different places. In fact I went to a different place the second time, because they did such a bad job with the tint at the first place. In both instances there were air bubbles under the tinting within a couple of weeks, and at the top of the glass where they trimmed it, it was a jagged crappy looking cut. So between that, and now this car, with the wrinkley passenger side, and the tabs knocked off the rear defroster, from what looks lke somebody getting a little to aggressive applying it, I've pretty much given' up on it.
To be honest, I don't know why the tint on this car, was ever put on for in the first place, cause it's like almost the same shade as the glass itself. It doesn't really make it much darker than it already is.

Anyways, thats my rant on window tinting I guess. I've just not had very good experiences with it myself, so I'd be reluctant to recommend it to anyone.

A friend at work just had his windows done, and I just got a look at them today. I gotta admit, it looks pretty damn good. I tried to talk him out of it originally, but I'm gonna wait for a month or so and see how his hold up. If they look good still, I just might reconsider.

In the meantime, I'm still gonna peel off the stuff that's in the car for now, cause it just looks terrible.

Word of mouth for sure! I went to this place called Beans auto glass, because of word of mouth. Small local place that takes great pride in their work!

All you should need to take off the tint is a bottle of glass cleaner and razer blades(a lot). I would use the glass cleaner that the Ford dealers use it will eat the glue off. I work at a dealership and we use it to take off all kinds of stuff stuck to windows using razor blades of course.

I just wanted to let you know that my husband and I have owned a window tinting business for over 27 years now and there is no easy way to get the nasty tint off your windows. The best way to do it is to use soapy water and a stainless steel razor blade ( has to be stainless steel or the razor blade will scratch your windows). As far as the rear defroster, if it is still working you do not want to use a razor blade on that so you peel off the tint ( a hairdryer works well to get the tint off) then spray it with 409 and use a scrubby and it will not hurt your defroster. As far as never getting tint again thats a mistake, it really does safe your interior, just make sure that the film is suntek or solarguard they are the only two films that guarantee film and labor for life. any other questions feel free to email me
