The kit isn't that bad. Sure it takes some cleanup and finagling to get right, and isn't a perfectly fitting model like Tamiya puts out, but if you want a model of the Garage MAK this is the way to go. Now, the real gripe is that I think the front bumper is ill-proportioned, too tall. That is also fixable. That's the beauty of the hobby, after all, isn't it? Making something from close to nothing?
I guess. :dunno:
wouldn't you gripe if the body was ruined apon arrival? And the rear bumper was pretty much unsalvageable? and you paid oodle's of money for the kit? Andy stated his body was warped also so thats when I decided to chime in.
I dunno, I suppose I just wanted something to go smoothly for once. :disappoin
Andy, you did a bang up job on that. Seriously.. 10/10 -looks outstanding. Not only was the kit a bitch but you went with white which is difficult in its own right. :iceslolan

Eh, perhaps I had already heard all the gripes before I bought it, so I expected it and didn't mind. Whatever, I certainly won't ever call it a good kit.
You certainly did this one up right, Andy Jones. I was hoping I'd get to be the first to make it true to the 1:1, with all the variations I've seen on AF I hadn't seen that one. I thought the wheels on the 1:1 were white, though? And can you pull the wheels a little more out of the arches? They look kind of pushed in, but it may be a trick of the photography. Great job overall, however. You totally score with that white paint, it looks beautiful. Great clean job on a kit wrought with controversy!

Thanks for the feedback guys - The paint is pearl white but I took the most recent pics late at night so they haven't come out very well.
I only have limited pics from the internet but I think the 99 spec has a slightly deeper front bumper than the 01 spec. The pics I have show the 99 version with white wheels and the 01 with silver - I'm not too keen on white wheels so I'll go with the silver NT's or TE37's. I know it won't be 100% accurate to the reference I have (I won't be using the kit wing and don't have any alternatives - but I suppose it could exist in that combination somewhere - lets call it artistic license !) At the moment the wheels are just resting on the chassis as I haven't built the suspension - which will be fun as the inside of the rim fouls the suspension strut due to the bigger diameter.Hope to finish it over the weekend and post some better pics.
I was aware from previous posts the the resin wasn't the best so I wasn't too disappointed when it arrived - the problem is that buying online you can't open the box and check out the kit before you buy.
Blueboost - sorry to hear your problems - I didn't have the major problems with the body that you have - not sure if damage occured in the post or if it was like that when it left Fujimi - maybe it might be something to take up with the postal service or HJL (just a thought).
Anyway enough of my rambling-this is a long post for me !.
