I have had these codes popping on for about 6 months. I had a vacum leak that was fixed and this resulted in the the van running better. The light is on again and the van runs fine. To I need to replace the gaskets? Will I do damage to the engine if I keep driving it?

Assuming you've ruled out other sources of leak, here's a recent long thread on the P0171/P0174 TSB covering the 99-03 Windstars. Others on here have done the repair in a couple of hours and all the part numbers are listed in the thread.

clean your maf sensor wires with an electronic cleaner. oil from the bad valve cover usually gets finds it's way onto the maf throught the breather line and throws the sensor out of wack.
good luck!!

You got my vote! I just cleaned MAF sensor and the car runs like a new. 171-174 thing has been disturbing be something like 6 months. I have tried just about everything you can imagine and this little thing (15 mins work) solved the whole mess! Even though Ford says; don't try to open MAF, I advice everybody having 171/174 to do it FIRST! Easy and cheap help.
