I have a 1994 lumina sedan and I would like some help on how to remove the air silencer. Does it really make that much of a difference in the performance? Any info someone has would be a big help.

i have done the mod, it supposedly adds 1-2 hp. It also makes it sound better (IMO) as it speeds up the air intake vaccumm.

where's ther air silencer located, i might want to remove it, but do you remove it anyway if you put on a new intake?

My car had a conical filter, and still had the silencer, so its optional. The easiest way to remove the silencer is to disconnect the air intake pipes, and remove the air filter box out. Then remove the tire (if the air filter box is on the driver side, take the driver side wheel off, or vice-versa), remove the black inner fender plastic, and unscrew it. It might be different for you car, for example, to remove the silencer on my mazda, i have to remove the fuse box, and thats all. It all depends.
Heres a link, no its not your car, but you should be able to identify the different parts. it should be
helpful.

I was able to remove the silencer from my 98 Mustang by unscrewing and lifting the air box slightly, then pulling silencer out of the wheel well through the bay. Very easy. Any gains were imperceptible, but sounded better, as SSBoy said...
