I am starting a new thread and have replied to wat71 about a similar problem he has or had back in Oct 03. Thanks for any tips on this situation. My Impala is a standard model, not LS with about 37K miles. Trans fluid checks full and clear also.

Wat, and any others having this problem:

I hope you're still monitoring this BB even from back in 10/03 when you first posted, as I have developed a similar problem with my 2000 standard, not LS Impala. Mine is a sort of a loud hum or buzz when shifting in all gears but no noise when cruising or idling. This noise seems to be getting louder and wonder how you made out with your situation? I do have an extended warrarty good for 2 more years and recently I was in to the service shop for a leak problem which they fixed ok. When I mentioned the noise problem the service guy made a kind of face and ignored my complaint and I didn't press it as I wanted the anti freeze leak fixed and thought I'd come back later with my shifting noise problem. Any light you can shed on it is appreciated greatly so I can steer the service adviser in the right direction. Thanks.

Mine was making a humming sound, when i put the car in reverse and gas it consideralbe amount of gas, it was hesitate and then lunge into reverse. There was also a hard upshift and a noticable downshift as well. The dealership sound out the valves in the transmission are bad and they need to be replaced. Mine only has 64,000 miles on it and i have had a hell of a lot of problems with mine, you name it, i have had the problem. I had to buy a little filing cabinet for the reciepts because chevy in their infinate wisdom but a small ass glove box in it. The valve job including labor and the ISS thing being replaced as well is costing 1200. THank god for the extended warranty!!!!!!

Hi, Mike, thanks for the input. Sounds like your situation a bit rougher than mine as I don't have any lurching YET, just noisier than when it was newer and getting louder gradually. I have talked with my local chevy service adviser and sent a commendation letter to his boss the owner of a big dealership for previous work he's done for me and I think it might win me some brownie points for help with the noise. He will have the shop foreman take it for a ride and see what he thinks, probably next week. So, stay tuned.
