Tranny noise

Have a 2000 Impala with a 3.8L and I have a clunck noise that started a couple of days ago. Only makes the noise when shifting into reverse and then from reverse to nuetral. Pulled the pan and no metal shavings. The car has 59,000 miles and it shifts fine. No hard shifts or slipping of any kind. Sounds like its coming out of the tranny in the middle by the rack. Look at all the recalls and TSB on my car but nothing like my problem. Any help would be great. Thanks

Get ready for a 2523.76 dollar bill to replace the transmission, I just replaced mine at 76,145 with similar problems. I have the 2000 Impala 3.4 L, and several GM mechanics told me that they see alot of 2000 impalas in the shop with transmission problems because of the soft metal plate that GM used in that model and year. You are not the only person having problems with this transmission. It pissed me off to no end so forward this to whoever you know and maybe GM will finally agree that they have a problem with the 2000 impala transmission. Not sure what else to do, they will sell you a SRTA goodwrench rebuilt tranny for the above price. Sorry,,

imay00per,Thanks for replying but I no longer have that problem. I sold the car yesterday because I am so tired of all the problems with the car. I thought about replacing the tranny and keeping the car but I have had alot of trouble with this car and I still had a note on it so I did not want it to rape me with more repairs.
