Break Squeals?

Well.. the brakes have started to squeal a bit. Not like the crazy squeals coming out of the really old oldmobiles in the ghetto, just like a mini-one. Anyways, judging from the squeals, are my brake pads like cracked in any way or something? I havent changed brake pads since last year august.

could be cracked, dusty, has debree embedded in the pad, i really cant pin point it for ya.....

mine like to sqeak in the rain or right after rain. If your pads are worn, they should make a distinct scraping sound...but the squeal is a much higher sound and usually indicative of a dirty brake area...when you wash the car next time, try to blast out the brake dust as best you can. They do make grease that goes between the pads and the caliper that are supposed to stop the squeak. it is very cheap and sold at most auto parts stores...I usually spring for this when I change the pads, but it doesn't usually last their entire life...you may need to re-apply some now.

Sometimes the metalic content in the pad material will rub against the rotor, causing a squeal, and as the pad wears more, the the squeal may go away, or get worse. Brake dust will make noise too, so try to hose out that area back there, and if it still happens, its the metal in the pads.

Just take it into any big-o tires or midas or whatever. they usually all have a free brake inspection service, and they'll diagnose it for you in the hopes that you'll tell them to do the work. Then just tell them you can't be without the car, and you'll call back to schedule or something... :iceslolan:

Did you use any of that stuff, you apply to the back of pads to hold down on noise. I have seen it called "Disc Quite" or something like that. It's super messy but it does work...
