blinking o/d light

I just had a used transmission put in my 96 windstar after driving for a few miles engine started to idle up and down and o/d light started blinking any ideas would be appreciated

When the OD button flashes, that means the computer has detected a problem. It has stored a trouble code. You need to read the code with a scan tool to point you in the right direction of repair. Or look over the work that was done, to make sure all the electrical is OK.

Yep. Go to autozone to get the OBDII code read, or buy a code reader for $30-40 online or thru harbor freight tools. Like rex says, this is likely a sensor issue- range sensor, speed sensor type thing. The code will tell you.

I just had the same problem with my 96 Windstar. I took it to a transmission shop. They had to replace the filter and change the fluid. The reason the light was on was because the filter was completely clogged up. Hope this helps.
