Water pump?

I have a '92 DOHC & was wondering if a bad water pump will make a loud knocking sound. Thought it was the t-chain but it's tight. The PO had sillycone for a v-cover gasket & it leaked like a sive, is there a regular gasket for this? Hate to sound stupid but I'm a big block guy & got this to prove a point, you can make anything fast, if you try. Can't beat it for $100

no a bad water pump will not make a loud ticking noise. my guess is its your valves. they need to be adjusted my 92 does the same thing. and its a common thing for dohc engines to need it.
