hi there...
which one will be faster.... gsr or a 2g eclipse gsx awd.... both the cars be the same year and let it have the same amount of mods??? and same driver skill :D no fights plz.. just for fun :)

unless the gsx plays with the turbo the gsr should win, but the gsx will tear him out of the hole

I would say that the GSR would be lucky to win if the circumstances are exactly how they were described. AWD Turbo 2.0 versus 1.8 Vtec from a stop wont be a slaughter because of weight and gearing issues but the eclipse would most likely win. From a drop on the other hand.... it would be another story.. that would be a solid race.

I would think that the GSX would win. I think the more powerful engine would give it the edge and cut down on the weight advantage. It would be close though I think.

GSX would win. And if they were partially modded. The GSX would still win. $~200 bucks would give the gsx a good 20 extra horsepower atleast. (UICP, 1g BOV, upped PSI to 15psi, boost guage, boost controller, Filter)

have to go with the gsx. 210 hp's vs 170 :-/. the better comparison would be gsx vs itr

Does "same mods" mean the GSR gets a turbo? lol my friend's 94 LS-T with a T6 would burn 90% of GSX's in the 1/4. I say GSX off the line and all the way, if the GSR is still NA. AWD turbo will seldom lose to FWD NA

ya bro GSR gets a turbo too.... and plz prove ur statements not just bluntly saying that ur friends car will smoke 90% of gsx... i am not arguing here and i drove both the cars i just want to know good and bad sides of these cars :) and again wat mods does ur friends car have???

If the gsr gets a turbo too, it would most likely win, if it gets a good launch. Stock Integra GSR 300hp 221TRQ, GSR at 10psi

Same mods we would be talking just I/E basics. Obviously not adding a turbo to the GSR...

You have to understand thats by giving the GSR a good turbo. The 2g Eclipse is given a T25. Which does its purpose but doesnt handle past 250hp. If both were to turbo upgrade the DSM will win each time. It has by far one of the best engines out there to handle boost. Getting 400hp out of stock internals is very common. Its easy to get there, Fuel injectors, new pump, new turbo. id like to see any other honda/acura do that.

02-05-2004, 07:51 PM
yea, i know bro i did some search about eclipse's, not to mention awd give great launches. But i say from a roll the gsr stands a chance against a gsx. Not to mention eclipse motors should be able to handle that type of power, their motors where built for turbos.

chris26969
02-05-2004, 07:54 PM
well if you wanna talk from a roll. You can just throw in the GST in there Vs the GSR and the GST wins (gst = same engine as GSX just FWD) . Theres always if ands or buts about being from a roll or etc. but its easier just to declare everything from a stop light for a race of a 1/4 mile.

02-05-2004, 07:56 PM
why not compare with a Type R then?

chris26969
02-05-2004, 08:12 PM
he initially said GSR. But why not ITR?

A gsx VS ITR with statistics, the GSX would win. If one driver is better than the other, anything could happen. If you were able to spend 100 dollars. the GSX would blow the ITR away.

95gsx-racer, my buddy has a '94 LS with a Turbonetics T6 turbo kit (I am not sure on the intercooler), AEM V2 intake, and Apexi N1 cbe. Those are the main mods he's done, although it may have had headers/pulley/etc. that I haven't noticed. He also has an upgraded fuel pump, but I am not sure of the brand. His main problem is traction off the line, and I am confident that a GSX would get a huge lead off the launch. But that big turbo pulls hard, and I really think he would catch up quickly, especially since he has a much lighter car.

joemathews
02-05-2004, 11:00 PM
By the way, I just talked to him and he's blown a seal in the engine and cracked a piston lol. That's why you don't put a T6 on stock internals of an LS and drive it like a funny car. Welp looks like it might be time to have the cylinders sleeved during the rebuild! And I think that considering the circumstances now, the GSX MIGHT win (:

95eclipse-gsx
02-06-2004, 12:18 AM
bro if u have the money u can even modify and change the internals of a GEO METRO and smoke a ferrari :D but my question was same mods which means if a GSR has t6 then GSX will also be having a T6 then??? :D

GSR- 170hp @ 7600, 128 ft-lbs torque @ 6200
GSX- 210 @ 6000, 214 ft-lbs torque @ 3000
this doesnt take a rocket scientist to figue out! this is straight from edmunds. for the 99 model

wheres the fun in this ?? :dunno: yes a turbo all wheel drive car with 214lbs of torque at 3000 rpms is gonna smoke a car with 130 or whatever a gsr has at 6200 rpm .thats a huge dis-advantage . thats like making a post asking if anyone thinks a stock civic ex can beat a stock type r integra .

I will say that hp and torque is not everything two these two guys (Z_beast and Crappy) thinking that this is pointless. Obviously you are going to learn something from this "fun" yet ridiculus thread. You must not forget the added weight of an extra differential and whether or not drivers actually have the ability to coax as much performance out of their car as possible. AWD is launching for dumbies and FWD takes more finesse. With an all wheel drive car there is no dipping allowed or else you are pretty much fucked while with a FWD you have much of the control of you car at you finger tips (not saying there is nothing at your feet, that is where the finesse comes in) while the car is moving. Yes the GSX will beat the GSR! ..... duh. but I think his intention with this thread was to have fun but to also show how different the perception of racing is. And yes "Straight line is for Amateurs!!!" <how do you guys like that little "spark"?>
Remember this is a fun thread and is supposed to be taken lightly but is supposed to draw good commentary not "flames".

well mister HTRtick, your weigth theory is a good excuse, theres about a 500lbs difference which is a good amount but not enough. furthermore your awd is easy to launch and fwd take finesse, give me a break. have you ever driven a awd or are you talking out your ass, because it does take know how just as everything does. and stand still or rolling the gsx would win, intera's, civics, and all those others are not race cars buy a real sports car not a cracker jack toy. and the last post was no flame, this one might be. furthermore do you knwo what useable power is relook the numbers i posted and see which one has more "useable"power then you'll get a clue. peace.

Z_animal

im sorry but what a waste of money. 18k on a integra. dude you could buy a pretty good used sports car for that. Z32,Supra,rx7, among others those are just a few examples of already powerful cars that have potential for more.

yeah, 18k is a bit much for a 2000. you can get a rsx-s for a few k's more!!!

you REALLY think gsx's are ment for racing?!?!?!?!?! have you ever seen an eclipse on the scc circuit or auto-x? gsx is good for drags but once you put them on tracks, they will be smoked by itr's all day long.

awesome something sensible! Unlike what is coming out the corn hole for a mouth animal.... Yes I have driven an AWD drive car before and they were even turbo!!! [Subaru(s), Audi(s)] whoopty fuck'n doo. And I will state again that on pavement they are launching for DUMBIES. Straight lines are fun and all but they lack skill in comparison to Auto Xing. What is this cracker jack BS? you can not be serious? have you ever driven an ACURA? What is power when you dont have precision?

if your buying a gsr for 18 then it probly has very few miles on it, and any of the cars that animal listed wont last you half as long as the teg! it will save you money in the long run. ....and the base on a type-s is 23...that means you will be walking out of the dealer paying close to 30!

your not a very smart guy now are ya ?. I have a GSR so dont tell me shit about it and its capabilities ... straight line racing is for amatuers ?? maybe its just a matter of ones taste/style of racing ... and yes a geo metro with an exellent driver can beat a respectable car with a bad driver , so f*ckin what ... he was comparing cars , not drivers ... I dont go to auto x , never even heard of a place where they do it , it is simply unpopular around here ... about 90 % of the racing that goes on around here is done from stop light to stop light , not around turns . stop trying to put other people down just because they dont do what you do , just to make you feel better about yourself .go try an "SPARK" up a brighter comment next time .... :thefinger

it takes skills to launch off the line no matter what car you drive, but why buy a japanese car when you're just going for drags? if you're really into drag racing, you'll forget about gsx's and gsr's and go straight for mustang cobras. cobras produce an insane amount of hp's and torque (you NEED torque for drags) from the factory and has potential for mods. anyways, the original post did not say anything about drags or auto-x or scc, he only mentioned who's faster. yes the gsx is faster off the line but the gsr will give it a run for its money if it was from rolling starts.

well like i said its a matter of ones taste ... sure if you just want a fast ass drag car straight off the lot , then a z28 or cobra would be a better bet than a honda .... but around here imports are waaaaay more common than domestics .... i for one , am a big fan of honda engineering and looks , so I would rather drag a honda than a stang , but thats just me . I dont modify my car to hang with cobra's and big boys like that , i am just satisfied that my car is fast for what it is .....

Obviously you do not know all the capabilities of your car, if all your doing is pressing the go button. There are Pros out there doing drag racing but they sure as hell dont do it on the street. The pros and people working on getting there times down and quickening their reaction times are at a track not on public roads. My advice to you is to not worry about what I say but what you type on this forum... If all you are going to do is talk out of your ass about Auto Xing then you should try it sometime. I have done that whole straight line thing and continue to enjoy but there are somethings out there that can further you as a driver (like going to a track and gaining tips from other draggers) and also show just how much skill a person can have in the drivers seat. And what a lovely use of a smilie it really shows how well you are able to press a button there too.

I have also heard a couple of choice things, from some friends that are from Florida, that much of the scene there is posing...... Do you care to retort??? I have yet to hear anything good about it, please enlighten me. I come from a place full of domestic RWD jackasses that get shut down time and time again by imports... Is this the case in Florida???

Sorry. Nah. The GSX will win. (always keeping in mind same driver skills) The GSR runs low 15s, ive seen 15.2,15.3,15.4 and even higher on car-stats.com (if anyone can explain that one)

But the GSX runs a 14.9, plain and simple. The GSX will win stock. And theres no such thing as a stock GSX. Its so easy to increase HP its ridiculous, Like i have said in previous posts. You can bring that 14.9 down to around 14.6-14.5 with less than 150 bucks. EASY.

GSX Vs GSR spending the same amount of money = GSX will always win. END.

Sry to keep this post goin, but , I am the proud owner of a '97 GSR. I was looking at a 98? GSX conv. The GSX was fast, faster then the GSR. I had back to back test drives with a guy that didn't care how I drove, just as long as I didn't break anything.Around Ma., the roads are horrible. A lot of twisty, windy, bumpy roads. The GSX was terrible. I was looking for speed and style, which they both have i.m.o. But the quality ride that the GSR gave made it the winner. Sure I gave up some quickness, but I also got better reliability, and a better ride. So as far as the original post goes, I'd have to say the GSX. As for the flame wars, the teg all the way as better over all car. Just m.o.

As for the GSX convertible comment. You didnt get a real feel for the car, because the Convertible turbo version was the GST ( FWD turbo) while GSX means AWD Turbo(which only came in the coupe).

Also the the GST Convertible is heavier than the GST Coupe. Which results in slightly slower times.

Also, I personally am looking into buying GSR and leaving my GSX scene, because of reliability. I need a car that will be very reliable in ~1500mile trips.

All and all tho, The Eclipse GSX has a much better interior, Body style, and obviously more powerful engine with much more potential. I do see the GSR as a nice car. But I dont believe it compares in its sportyness.
