engine rebuild
Turbo kit
Exhaust system
blow off valve
intercooler
headers and downpipes(whats this)
port(whats this)
fuel pump
boost controller
turbo timer
boost gauge
black C-West body kit (dont know about the C-West part, just looking for a kit that looks something like the one shown at the bottom of the page shown here (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/316189/2))
Blue undercar Neons
headlight conversion kit (maybe)
carbon fiber hood with scoop in the middle and gills on sides
lowering springs
shocks
racing tires (x4)
New Mazda emblems (x2)
extra gauges (nitrous, RPM, with shift light, etc.)
electric starter
security alarm
lambo door conversion kit
now are there any other things that i would need to make an FD go? and how much do u think all of this and whatever else i need cost?

ok I'll list the "the "dont's"...
-skip the lambo doors(GAY!!!)
-electric starters are cool, I want one too, but don't list it as a mod please
-alarm is good to have but also not a mod
-skip the emblems and just remove them all and get the hoels filled and the paint matched, that way stupid people wont know what kinda car you have
-neons just take more power from your battery, plus they got played out in both fast and furious movies, skip those too
yea that pretty much covers it

could you be any more vague? an FD with a turbo kit, wow, thats unheard of :) . what turbo(s) do you want, what exhaust, what bov, etc. or are you asking us to tell you which parts to spend your daddy's money on. jk.

I am imagining your talking a 3rd Gen (FD) correct?
engine rebuild (Street port)
Turbo kit - Skip it and use the money to buy a Power Fc and some bigger injectors - Thank me later.
Exhaust system - Yes
blow off valve - Skip it FD's ahve BOV's alread and when you put on a open filter it makes the cool whoosh noise you want.
intercooler - Good, Yes
downpipe(whats this) - Sinular it goes from the turbo to the exhaust you will need a mid pipe too and wrap the down pipe w/ header wrap.
port - See street port above.
fuel pump - Good!!
boost controller - Yes!! This will get you the HP you want.
turbo timer - Waste of money - What happens if something foes wrong w/ your car while it cools down for 4 minutes and your in the store not able to shut it down in a hurry. Sit in car and cool it down its part of the fun.
boost gauge - Yes no boost guage is like driving blind.
black C-West body kit (dont know about the C-West part, just looking for a kit that looks something like the one shown at the bottom of the page shown here) - No my style but whatever floats your boat.
Blue undercar Neons - NO! Played and tired.
headlight conversion kit (maybe) - Expensive as hell spend it on the rebuild it will be money better spent.
carbon fiber hood with scoop in the middle and gills on sides - Sure it will help keep uunderhood temps down.
lowering springs - Coil overs would be better.
shocks - Yes DOnt forget a good fron swaybar too.
racing tires (x4) - Get a nice set of rims and street tires. Mount a set of Kumho Victoracer 245/45/16 tires on the stockers for the canyon runs then you will throw away the nice rims after you drive on the "true" race tires.
New Mazda emblems (x2) - Debadge.
extra gauges (nitrous, RPM, with shift light, etc.) Skip the NOS just get a Power FC and tune spend the NOS money on Dyno time to make sure she is tuned correct.
electric starter - Wha???
security alarm - Yes after you spend 15-20K on you car you dont wan tit stolen.
lambo door conversion kit- Please Please Please NO!!!
Like I mentioned before A Power FC is an awesome Mod. It will give you the ability to tune your timing anf fuel. Paired w/ some bigger Secondary injectors and you should be able to see mid to high 300's to the wheels on the stock Turbo's.
Good Luck and dont rice it out or I will hunt you down w/ my RX-7 friends and take it away from you. :D

you could find info for all that if you researched it, but anyways...
BOV(Blow Off Valve)-releases the extra air
Injectors(fuel Injectors)-injects fuel into the engine(sort of self explanitory)
street port(making the intake and exhaust ports larger(research it)
swaybar(the cool little bar that goes from the left to right that is over the engine, you might see a chrome one on fast and furious I'm sure)
well take a weeks off of work and learn a little about cars and do A LOT of research before you expect to be joe-cool with a 10 second car, it aint as easy as the movies make it seem

No. go back and re-read my first post to you. I say yeas or comment on the things that are good choices.
All you need to know about the power FC SR Motorsports is top notch you cannot go wrong buying from them. This should be your First Mod.
http://www.srmotorsports.com/sr93ecu.html
BOV - Blow off valve FD's have them from factory they bleed off boost when you release the throttle so the turbos stay spooled up and ready for action when you hit the gas again.
Street Port - is done when you rebuild the engine (smart move BTW) they simply open up the ports more for better airflow and more power typically you'll see a 15% gain in HP from this mod alone.
Injectors - RX-7's have 4 injectors 2 for each rotor. Primaries are usually smaller (550cc in an FD) and do the low end work. The secondaries are typically replaced with larger ones. I would suggest getting 1200-1300cc secondaries they will help support 500RWHP if needed. You can actually sendout your secondaries and have them bored out bigger. You may as well send the primaries too and have them cleaned and tested to make sure they all work right.
Swaybar - all cars have them they do just what the name implies. they keep your car from swaying or limit body roll. This helps in handling. A good stiff front sway bar helps a lot.

Aruba27
02-16-2004, 09:55 PM
um... i don't know why, but i don't remember if a blow off valve and a waste gate are the same thing.... well, the 3rd gen rx comes with a blow off valve, but i'm not sure if it needs to be upgraded or not for what you plan to run.

a wastegate just regulates max boost pressure, while a bov realeases pressure buildup in the intake so that your turbo(s) dont spool down as fast. i dont explain things good so just go here instead:

02-17-2004, 01:33 AM
ok, now that i've read that, the rx comes stock with a blow off valve, you don't need new one really. and the wastegate is for efficiency and fine tuning. not a bad idea to get one if you know what you're lookin for in performance, and most importantly, how to get there. if you do get one, it's something you'll want to research personaly for the results you're looking for, as well as a lot of the other parts you're lookin to buy.

ok thanx, that wastegate thing was hard for me to understand, ive got a new problem now, im trying to research new rims for a car, but i can't find the ones that i like, one of the ones that im trying to find is the rims from 2F2F.
they are the ones on the green car, when the movie begins they are at the street race, then Ludacris makes the call to Paul Walker, then as Paul Walker races to the street race the movie is playing "Act a Fool" by Ludacris. Then as they are almost done the camera goes to all of these different shots of the people waiting for the race to start, one of the shots is of a nice green car with grey flames on the side or something like that, it shows a dudes nice footwork and it has a nice chrome rim behind him.
the rims no the green car are the ones that i want to get, does anyone know where i can find them?

um... lay off the rice man. look for some nice looking, lightweight rims that can handle the weight of your rx. personally, a car that has lots of well tuned power but lays off the rice is much sexier than anything with crazy lambo doors or neons etc.
Soyo
04-22-2004, 04:28 PM
yea, chrome rims are really heavy too, plus any real racer will give you a ton of crap for having chrome rims... leave the chrome to the escalades and such

aight, i didnt think the chrome was really that much heavier

The car should have a wastegate on it already. If it didn't the motor would blow up real quick.

if money is no object...go with volk TE37's, or really any volk for that matter, lightest wheels out there pretty much, stong as hell, and damn pretty too....

i like the flashy kind, not the ricer ones, but just nice shiny ones, what would you recommend for me to get for me to have a nice shiny kind, but so that its not too heavy and stuff?
also what kind of tires would you recomend?

I have 18" CCW polished alloys. probably the lightest 18" wheels out there. Your intended driving will dictate the tires, but always go for max performance - Yoko AVS Sports, Potenza S-02/S-03, ...

I gotta say, you're the best newbie i've seen on this forum so far. It's nice to see people taking our advice seriously, and not going for rice. If you get things right, your RX will look really sexy. it's not going to be super exaggerated looks and body kits, but people will recognize that there is something more to your car. not only will your car look good, but it'll be fast as hell man.

and why would you never mod it?
if you don't plan to do anything with it at all just don't buy it... its a sports car built to be used on the track... if you want a stock car then buy a toyota camry or something... seriously

for tires I'd recommend checking out www.tirerack.com not sure if its cheap to buy from them but they give you info and ratings on all the tires they have. Kumho are really good street/track tires from what I hear, and Falkens are good as well, they don't have them Falken tires at that website though
I plan to get the Kumho KH11's eventually, once I get my new car and it needs new tires that is haha

i also heard something about mid pipes making a car illegal for street use?
i want this car to remain street legal, i forgot to put that into account when i was looking up engine mods, ICE, wheels, all that
do i have to restart my research, or can i just change a few mods and keep it street legal?

"street legal" or "technically street legal?" My car has all the OE intake and exhaust parts replaced - larger intercooler, free-flow intake, downpipe, hi-flow cat and cat-back. It will pass the sniffer, therefore "street legal, "but it is not "technically street" legal because it should not pass the visual inspection.
Replacing the pre-cat with a downpipe would disqualiy it, but many shops won't recognize this swap.
The main thing is to replace parts only with those recognized by the authority in your state (CARB in CA) as replacement parts. These should come with a sticker or certification that states so.

it all depends on what kind of checks they do in your state.. if they check exhaust you could always just reapply the stock exhaust each time you have to test it if you wanted to have a test pipe and all that with no cats.

k, im not sure what kinda checks they do here, but what is the "sniffer" test, iver heard that 2 times now. what kinda "tests" are there?
what makes da exhaust illegal, is it the size and the emmitions (the stuff that it lets out, im not sure if thats the right word)?
whats a cat-back and all that kinda exhaust related stuff (terminology)?

The only thing with this is that swapping out the pre-cat and downpipe is a real PITA, even if it's only every two years as in CA. Unless, of course, you have a shop do it.

How is it a pain in the ass? It takes about 15 minutes.

not if you bolt it on instead of weld it... that makes it easy

DevoutWankelist: Please tell me how it takes 15 minutes to swap out the downpipe and pre-cat. I must be doing something way wrong. Or are you referring to what it takes with an FC? The FD is a PITA!!
iwoopany1: the exhaust system consists of a pre-catalytic converter, a main-catalytic converter and a muffler. They are replaced by straight through pipes, usually 3", called in a downpipe and a midpipe, respectively. The muffer is replaced by the cat-back. It is a freer flowing muffler.

at the howstuffworks web page you can look at mufflers and I think even cats... that will help you understand smog testing I believe
the downpipe could be time consuming but the cat should be simple if its bolted and not welded on

the "cat" stands for catalytic converter?!?! ohhh!! that would have been really helpful a while ago!! :) now i understand what your all talking about!
ok, so since you are talking about the "sniffer" test, that means that your talking about testing what comes out the back, the catalytic converter changes carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide, i think?
ok i understand what all of it does, but what would you guys reccomend is the best brand for all of the parts?
i also wanted to get help with some ICE...where should i go to get the best quality, look, and durability? basically i want to know about LCD screens, amps, and speakers, not much more. can anyone give me some advise?

go to best buy... we don't have "ICE" here... total waste of money... who needs a tv in their car anyways? seriously are you trying to kill yourself? if you want to watch tv or play playstation then just go to your house, why would you wanna be cramped in your car when you could be sprawlled(sp?) out on your couch or bed? oh yea thats right, its cool to have a tv and PS2 in your car... I just don't get some peoples reasoning...

I'd say to keep it simple, get a nice faceplate, maybe some small subs, but not overpowered. I'm thinking about going with 2 8 inch subs with about 100 watts each, and some eclipse speakers in the front. I'm really going for a well balanced sound, pretty low on the bass. Go for good quality, not massive power and volume. LCD screens are not a good idea in my opinion, not only cuz they're kinda dangerous... but you forget, you're driving an FC. they're pretty easy to break into, especially from the back. a friend of mine bought one that had been broken into, all they had to do was drill out the lock in the back and the thing came open real easy, the guy had 2 14 inch subs each powered by 600 watt amps. luckily he had his face plate with him, but he lost a lot of money.

oh ok, see i didnt know that they were easy to break into, i guess ill just go with the sound system, and maybe a navigation system, cuz i think im gonna want to take a few long term trips :)
is there really a way to make it a "safe" car? i like the loud music and everything, not bust ur ears loud, but nice loud and booming music and i think i want some amps and 12" subwoofers along with 10" woofers and tweeters (if i can make them fit), but is that really a good idea?
and what about rollcages? are there some that are better than others?
