Can we talk about some other cars please! The SRT4 is really getting old fast its all people are talking about. Why is it so big all of the sudden its been out for a year?

:iagree: For 15K I could build a turbo charged lawn mower that would kick an SRT4's ass in the 1/4mi.

i don't see why is such a big deal that he had a few srt4 threads....i've managed to find quite a few street racing videos with them and since this is a street racing forum i've posted them
they are clearly labeled srt4 threads so they can easily avoided
also steiner has one and he has every right to be proud of one and post info about them
and if you think they are just a pos neon don't buy one...its your money and your opinion...to a lot of us the srt4 its an amazing car with a ridiculously good engine
we hand a bunch of threads were we explained its strenghts and why its not a neon so why come here and flame?

And so what if it is a Neon? The Neon has a sterling SCCA competition record and standout reliability and fuel economy.
The only reason it has submarine levels of resale value is because people who still think Honda and Toyota are the Second Coming are willing to spend more to buy Civics and Corollas.
The Neon is a great little car for the money, and anyone who's owned a twin-cam Neon knows that they are FUN little cars. Give DaimlerChrysler some credit already. The only thing that seems to be bugging anyone is that the car they asked for, a practical wild-looking FF car with a powerful engine and high levels of grip for a bargain price, came from Dodge instead of Honda.
GASP! God forbid a major manufacturer listens to its customers and gives them what they want.

Since I registered here in late October I've only started a grand total of 4 threads...this one and three others.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=170663
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=171315

This particular one is really the only SRT-4 specific thread I've started...and it's really more about the 2.4L turbo engine it comes with rather than the actual car itself.
I don't think you can call that "out of control". It's other people that start the SRT-4 threads...I just reply to them when I have something to say. IMHO it's in bad taste, and somewht predictable, to start a thread about your own make and model car unless you're asking for help or trying to sell it.

My post wasnt really aimed at you more at Nitro. What I was trying to get across was this is the STREET RACING forum. Not the SRT street racing forum. I like the SRT but hell im sick of hereing about soo much. Its like the SRTforum in here. And I just through the M5 out their, you say its not impressive I say the SRT4 is not all that impressive. I would take a mini over the SRT. Why you may ask because I care more about handling then stright line. The mini is designed to handle better than the SRT4 can. Stock for stock no, but the mini's DESIGN makes it so that if you put on some nice coilovers you could out handle most cars even if their modded or stock. Its just so small. My point was just that their are lots of other great cars and it seems like their a are a ton of SRT4 threads that are just video's of SRT killing this or that. Its like "look what SRT video I found...oh its not me though". Its like people on here are trying to prove some thing, what? I dont know but I think everone agrees the SRT is fast. However I guess this thread is not about another SRT kill so I retrack my earlyer statement. I guess I was just like "god another SRT thread" my bad. No worries. I don't want this to be another SRT forum either. I would go crazy without this forum's objectivity.
BTW...I only have 2 kill stories. They are both a little boring though. I'm hoping to race my brother's 400hp '68 Buick Skylark GS400 stroker this spring. Irregardless of the outcome I'll post it here. It should be newsworthy. He said he's gonna shine his bumper for me and I told him I'm getting a little "Hi" bumper sticker just so he has something to look at while we race. :D

Fisrt when I said Nitro I ment Neutrino...for some odd reason I wrote Nitro.
Second the Mini cooper CAN be a better handler and its not just my opinion. I dont know as much as you im sure about chassis and such, but I do know BMW made a very stiff chassis for the Mini so much so that tq sheer is not a big issue. And Im sure Dodge did the same with the SRT. So it just comes down to size and shape. The mini's chassis is short and wide and with nice stiff suspension the car handles like a pro. The SRT is about same width but longer. Now put some suspension on the SRT and im sure it will also handle great but, not as well as the Mini. Size does matter when its comes to handling.

well the srt4 does not have very big problems with torque steer since they knew from the get go that can be a problem with high torque FF cars so they gave it equal leng halfshafts....that reduced most of the torque steer even in the 03 model without an lsd
of course the mini even the mini s will have less torque steer since it has way less power....
also torque steer and bump steer are more controled by the suspension setup(control arms etc) than chassis
from what i hear the mini does have a very stiff body which is very important for handling but i really don't know how it compares to the srt4 body since technical data that shows how much torque the chassis can handle its not easily available
one thing though to remember is that the new mini is no lightweight at 2678 unladen weight its quite heavy for its size...heavier than a celica gts i believe
about its size yes its true in certain autox events being small can be quite an advantage.....however on a high speed track a short wheel base can prove unstable at very high speeds....just look at the wheelbases of the super cars....they are huge for a reason

Ok but were talking about handling and I dont think the mini is going to go fast enough so that its short chassis becomes an issue. And yea I agree the Mini is alittle heary but its still lighter then the SRT no?

I don't want to have to close this.
Of course. We all know you're the local Mopar Nazi, with Neut as your sidekick...it'll hurt your feelings to shut-down a thread about an SRT-4...http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/disappointed.gif

yup thats my feeling i don't mind FWD too much though i'm not saying it wasn't a damned fast car with alot of work on it just still a neon.
its just a neon
and evos are just lancers
and ferrari's are just fiats
astons are just fords
porsches are just WV
get the picture?...i can use that type of argument to put down any car...that argument literally means nothing...heck the hate mail with "its just a neon" anoyed the SCC editors so much that they ended up going to the factory to have an expose on how the car is built....and even they were blown by what they've seen
now can we get to the point of this thread and discuss perhaps some technical elements of how to get a 4 banger up to 900hp and make it run for several minutes at full power and not break

I pulled this from Compact Car Magazine. Their comments are directed towards the '03 model which did not have LSD or the Stage 1 injectors...
"...It also puts 223 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque to its front wheels, stops from 60 mph in 119 feet and snakes through a 700-foot slalom at a very fast 69 mph. That means the SRT-4 runs head to head with the new Nissan 350Z and the Subaru WRX, while leaving the new Mini Cooper S and the Acura RSX Type-S in the dust."
For what it's worth the '04 SRT-4 slalom times were just under 68mph which was still better than the '04 Mini Cooper S. Of course I wouldn't mind having that little Mini Cooper when I go up to the city. There is zero fucking parking in SF. That little car can squeeze into some insane little parking spots.

I know I said with some better suspension it would be better. In other words if both had equal suspension the Mini would always handle better. Or at least it should see as what im saying is purely speculation.
One of these mags should turbo a mini and hop up the suspension, that would be such a fun little car.
Anyways back on topic so how did they pull 900hp off. I guessing they used forged everything?
