Depends- You can buy NFS:U for XBox and then have bugger all good games left to buy, but decent graphics bundled into an old PC
or a PS2 with less of the Graphics- but more choice for games- and the Multi-zone DVD software you can buy seperately

If racing games are your thing then the Xbox is the clear winner. Superior graphics and sound. Plus you can rip songs from your CDs and put them on the Xbox so when you're racing you can listen to your own music. It has a hard drive so you don't need to buy BS memory cards. People say there are no games on Xbox but there are more games out there than I could ever get through. The Xbox DVD player is progressive scan, as far as I'm aware the PS2 isn't. The PS2 is also a PC. But it's even older, and it's lacking versatility and a hard drive.

WTF??? The XBox literally is a Pentium III 700mhz (32 bit) machine which is running Windows 2000
While the PS2 isn't running any OS- but Linux do hardware for it- and hasa 150mhz 128 bit processor- Which sounds more like a PC???
XBox has NO good driving games- there is nothing that can match the realism of GT3- except Sega GT- which has shit cars in comparison- and with the impending release of GT4- it can only get better- I can also listen to my own music when I play GT3- it's called an iPOD- but I prefer to hear the cars, thanks. Oh and try taking your harddrive of your XBox to play on another XBox- can't do that- but you can do it with PS2 memory cards.
Yep- forgot to mention that Project Gotham RAcing games are arcade pieces of crap- so don't think of naming them as semi-decent

The PS2 has a DVD Player- and with the Multizone thing you can buy works just great.
The games from Sony's Polyphony digital studio are reasons enough to shaft an XBox for a PS2.

The Multizone DVD thingee- is called the DVD Region X Key. Basically your USM PS2 will only play Zone 1 DVD's (Which is the North America zone) BUT with this little piece of genius you can play DVD's from all Zones in the world, just as you would a Zone 1 DVD- I'm not too sure on it's availability in the States though.........

Lets see if we can put this into perspective. Lets use cars as an example. For the same price you could buy a 2 year old car with a smaller engine and less features. Or, you could buy a new car with a bigger engine and more features. Seems kinda simple if you ask me. 700 mhz versues 150. That REALLY puts it into perspective. And who cares if it resembles a PC. They both have the same damn purpose. Project Gotham Racing 2 is one of the best arcade racing games out there. The detail and sound embarass Grand Turismo. Moto GP is the best motorcycle game and there's no better rally game than Rally Sport. The PS2 is antiquated and the only reason people are choosing is because they own one. Most people who own both usually play the Xbox more.
Jimster
01-05-2004, 02:47 AM
Better Rally ame??? You simply cannot surpass the WRC I, Extreme or III games done in-house by Sony- I mean there is every single rally, every single Special stage in each Rally course, every single driver ('cept Colin McRae- for reasons)
I don't play motorbike games so I won't go into that.
Too bad the realism in PGR 2 doesn't shame GT- or the car selection (Which is pathetic) So basically the 4 month old PGR 2- can't surpass the 3 year old GT3 funny innit? Remember the realism is the selling point of GT.
The PS2 has 150 mhz- BUT a 128 bit processor- which is 3 times more than that of the XBox- which means that the ACTUAL speed of the processors is actually rather similar- Remember- it is a game-oriented processor- not a 32 bit Pentium.

Well, it's up to this guy to choose. I'd say rent them both and a couple games to compare. I like both systems and would be happy to add a PS2 to my media center. But Xbox keeps me more than occupied for playing video games. Plus it's designed to work with HDTV which is what my TV is. Oh yeah, that hard drive is 8 GB so you can add entire music albums to the box and have no worries. Xbox Live has also been reviewed as being superior to PS2's.

Ok pro and con time...
XboX pros so far...
XboX live better than Ps2 online capabilities.
Better sound and graphics.
DvD player
No memory cards (no extra money 2 spend, correction to blindside) 10 Gig hard drive.
Newer than Ps2 (less of my friends have it)
XboX cons so far...
Not as much games as Ps2
Harder to borrow shit I don't wanna buy from friends :screwy:
Big and bulky...harder to fit comfortably in car.
Controller too bulky...takes getting used to.
No memory cards...cant take it somwhere else
Just learned you have to buy remote control to play dvds
Ps2 pros so far...
Better variety of games
Memory cards (more money to spend) can be moved when needed to
Better controller
Smaller, fits better into small spaces in car
DvD player
Ps2 cons so far...
Memory cards cost money

you don't need that multizone unless you wanna watch non-american films, and the fact that everyone has a PS2 would be a pro not a con. i remember when atari put out the supposedly 64 bit jaguar, i bought it but non of my friends did(same with Saturn). i knew within a month that these systems were not gonna last. the fact that everyone has it should be a relfief.
i don't totally agree that ps2 has better games. there are a few games better for ps2 than xbox but the only one that effects me is Gran turismo. the fact that sony let nintendo get the license to the resident evil series shows that they don't know their customers well enough. Did anyone play that starwars game Knights of the Old Republic? it was awesome and i don't even like starwars. there is absolutely no way in hell that PS2 could have had that game, the lands were massive and the PS doesn't have enough ram to accomodate those landscapes, it would have been having to load left and right. a lot of the great PC games come out for the xbox. not to mention 16 people playing Halo on multi system link is absolutely insane
i have all 3 systems, GC PS2 and the box. I would say go with the box, especially if you plan on going online.

Well, My vote goes to XBOX, mainly because it haas better game play, in my opinion, i rented both a PS2 and XBOX, and found that i prefer the XBOX, better graphics, I can store tones and tones of stuff, without buying a friggen memory card, I like the way the controller feels in my hands, i have lare hands and find it easier, and more relaxing to hold on too, the PS2 was too small, and i just didnt like it. so like someone else has said rent them both, then decide, if you ask anyone who has owned a PS2 AND an XBOX, most will usually say they find XBOX better, ( just from my experience any ways) and the games are quality!, they actually take time to develope the games for XBOX, it seems like PS2 has about three new games a day, and the majority of them are crap!, (im not saying they all are but, alot of them just suck) yes PS2 has 200+ games, but how many of them are decent? XBOX may only have 50 games, but they all are very well made IMO.
XBOX is the ultimate system, and best suited for a MAN! plainly because its big, the hardware is great, and the games are great.
Now please, this is my opinion, if you dont like it keep any nasty comments to yourself, as this is just my :2cents:

Although i own only a PS2 and the best game on it is Final Fantasy 10 i don't care for many other PS2 games other than Way of the Samurai. No not even Gran Tourismo it just pisses me off its so fucking boring.

crayzayjay: Yeah, me in a nutshell I buy a new game at least once every three weeks :( I much prefer my PS2 for the range of quality games. Mind you if Microsoft get some decent development (Rather than half-arsed attempts) into the games, then I'd consider an XBox, as an on the side thing.
By the way, is XBox live worth 100+ Euros per annum??? My PS2 broadband is free and it supports EA titles online, so yeah I can play FIFA '04 online for free :D:D I can't wait for GT4, if the rumors of online capabilities are true :D

i'm not sure how much $US that is, but here it's $50/year. and a lot of the games you buy that are online capable come with 2 or 3 month x box live voucher cards. Prince of Persia, for example, comes with a free 2 months of online. i got ps online first cuz of SocomII, GT4 and the new online Resident Evil: Outbreak. xbox live i'll get some time this month

Own a PS2, roommate has the XBox, I play both.
I personally prefer the PS2, more (and basically better) games.
Sure, the XBox has a hard drive, but that's just another moving part that will eventually break down anyways. :loser:
PS2, sleek looking, and easy to transport, The XBox is the size of a 80's VCR and weighs like one too.
HOWEVER, XBox will support Doom 3 :worshippy :ylsuper: and PS2 won't.
This arguement will basically go one another year as a lame repost thread when PS3 and XBox 2 come out.

Here is the deal, if you want a good selection of games then the PS2 is a no brainer. Granted the X-Box is more powerful, has a progressive scan DVD player, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, built-in hard drive, and the best online gaming there is on a console. That still doesn't change the fact that the PS2 has a shitload more games, and more better ones at that. You can still play DVDs on the PS2 and you don't have to buy a remote to use it, you can use the PS2 controller. You have to buy the DVD kit for the X-Box. Also, the PS2 is NOT a PC in any way shape or form. The X-Box kin of is a PC. It has the hardware, but is not modular and can't be upgraded.
My pick is the PS2. Like Jimster said the only good racing game for the X-Box is Sega GT 2002 but GT3 is much better and GT4 is coming out soon. I have both and I prefer my PS2 to my X-Box.

It doesnt have anywhere near as many titles as PS2 but this is improving, and it's a vastly superior machine. Unless you're a gaming freak and need to buy a new title every two weeks the Xbox is mroe than good enough.
Plus, XBOX live is great, not that it matters if its going in your car. XBOX wins to ever spec comparo out there. Yeah, there are not as many games but who cares? You don't need 100 games. I would rather 10-15 good XBOX games, to 100 PS2 games. I AM NOT SAYING THAT PS2 GAMES ARE BAD. The PS2 has great games. I just favor the XBOX's console and the XBOX way of doing things, thats all.

A bit of a thread resurection, but its still on teh first page, so. anyway, i would take teh PS2. I never had mine ever lag in any movies ive played on it, so to me that sounds kind of fishy. I like the controller better, but i must admit that is just prefrence and how used to it I am. The only game I like on the xbox would ahve to be Halo. My fellow frat brothe rhas both, and they are both nice systems, but i still prefer my ps2. My vote would go for a PS2. As one last note, please, please stop tying to compare the PS2 and Xbox by the numbers like that. it is not an apples to apples comparison. the Xbox is set up like a normal PC would be while the PS2 is setup totally different and works a different way. ANd last I knew, it had progressive scan as well.

PS2 gets my vote. And with the new online pack, they will also be adding the ability to put a hard drive in the PS2 as well soon. GT3 and GT4 - 'nuff said plus I like the controllers better.
The XBOX hard drives are also locked. My friend's XBOX bit the dust and we tried to use the hard drive as a spare on his PC but the drive is totally locked out, despite everything I tried. Even debugged the drive without success. That thing is locked tighter than, well, something really hard to get into.

Thats' basically I need to say. The X-Box is huge, heavy, and it's made by Microsoft, and the controller looks like a fucked up used bar of soap. HOWEVER...I love Halo and it's networking capabilities.
But I still vote for PS2 and PS3, which is supposed to come out later next year or whatever. here's a concept pic of the new PS3.

i have to agree ps3 will be pretty sweet but at the same time xbox is gonna release xbox 2 and nintendo is gonna release the super portable DS (dual screen). but he asked ps2 or xbox not ps3 or xbox, ps2 came out too long ago, thats why its gamebase is huge but xbox has been relasing some great titles, and they aren't gonna stop soon. so for looking into the not to distnat future i would go with xbox but if this isn't gonna happen till say 2006 then wait for ps3 or xbox2

Sweet lets recommend systems that are just rumors and we know nothign about and wont be out for at least a year for a project he wants to do soon.... sorry i had to throw that sarcasim in there. odd you bring up the heat issue. I havent had any heat issues with my ps2, even when its been on for over 24 hours. but maybe thats just me. I think an Xbox would be more liekly to have heat problems, with faster components and a hard drive as well.

sorry, my bad. xbox does run hotter but, it is bigger so more room for the heat. and for me it hasn't had as big of problem with ventilation expecially if you put it in your dash make sure its well ventillated for either system. but it is my personal belif that xbox cools beter.

Actually, there is away if u mod ur xbox, to be able to play PS2 games on it. My friend has it on his. He can also play sega, super nintendo, and other types of system games on his XBOX.

I prefer the x-box for the fact you have x-box live, and can chat to your friends and play them on-line. I also see there will be video messaging available soon as well. I have seen some better graphics on SOME PS2 games, but I think there are some great graphic games for x-box as well if you stick with the latest ones. I have
ESPN 2004 hockey
MSB2005 baseball
Splinter cell (Pandora's box)
Dead or alive 3
Top spin 2004 and all of these in my opinion are awesome graphics.

I own a Gamecube, Xbox, and a PS2. And I have to say that the Xbox is best because of the Versatility. You can download your cd's onto it, has a harddrive, excellent graphics, and a few more reasons. PS2's have problems with breaking Mine, my friend Nathan's and my friend Kevins all broke from the same thing after about a year. They would never read any disc's, not DVD's, not CD's, nothing. Go with the Xbox, you will be happy you did. And most people who say PS2 is better is because of Gran Turismo, sure, it is a good game, but you can live without one game.
