Ford Capri Gr.5 "Open Version " in progress

Ford Capri Gr.5
It's this time of the year again. Like in previous years, in this time of
the year I usually start a bigger modeling/modifying project and this year
is no exception. I've choosen to do Tamiya's Ford Capri Gr.5 (Item N°
24014). If you know this model maybe you'll start thinking why this project,
since it's not such a special kit at all.
That part is true of course, but if you've seen my previous big modifying
projects (CLK-DTM and WRC-Subaru), you know what to expect.
The Ford Capri is going to be build like shown in the attached picture of
the real thing, however the model will feature open doors and an opened
trunk as well.
The only addition to this kit will be the etched inserts for the rims.
Everything else will be done scratchbuilding. With this report I'd like to
share with you how I tackle such a big project and this from in the very
beginning.
Have fun with it. I'm looking forward to all comments and suggestions.
Cheers,
Kurtl

If you want a TON of parts that are basically the same as what you're going to be needing there, hunt down the SSP reissue of the Monogram Motorsports Mustang. It's the same basic car, except skinned as a Mustang.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/94398Motorsports_Mustang-med.jpg
This is the kit to look for. You can usually find them on eBay for cheap.

Great project! This place really prevents anyone fromy hubris.... So many talented builders building. Your capri looks fantastic, I really like the complete and utter detail you are going for. Take away the bottles and cans and put your progress in a little garage.. you'd fool us all into thinking that's a full size project! Keep it up.

You're reaching for a new high level of incredible, kurtl. I love what you're doing with the chassis and that photoetch wheel center is gorgeous.
Did you have them custom done, or are those photoetch centers available from some aftermarket source?

Incredible. The car is really starting to come together now and looks like it could even top your previous amazing efforts!
If it's not too much trouble could you please explain exactly how you constructed those hinges? I'm trying to do something similar at the moment on the engine cover of a Stratos.
