Hi all~
This is my attempt at converting the Fujimi Honda civic hatchback into a 4 door.
Second day since started but i was looking through the internet for pics and info for months b4. i only took 1 pic so far. It would be good to hear some of you peoples comments.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid95/p2a63715623238d18efd379b2786bdb48/fa2222a7.jpg

not sure am i doing anything right on the post pic part...

you can use the "image" button to insert the pic into the thread. let me help you to post it here ;)

the conversion looks good. you could sand the gas door, and make one at the right rear side.

thx for the advice
www.fenerbahceoto.com/ civichistory.htm
but from the pics of that site it looks like all the civics have their gas door on the left rear side of the body wor...(correct me if im wrong)
but i think im just going to keep the gas door where it used to be...thanks for ur input neways

i think i forgot to tell what ive done to the conversion so far...ill say it here:

chassis/body stretched by ~1.5cm at the back
rear panel line of hatchback door removed
rear doors panel lines made wif dremel
rear door drilled at handle location...ill make the handle itself later

some more i haf done today:
b pillar removed...going to make new ones soon and move them forward ~.5cm
connected rear (bumper + trunk lid part) back onto body wif milliput (so far the hardest task to be completed)
top of trunklid by stacking styrene cards over

the rear windows will be taken from spare parts of my lancer evo 3. i will post pics ASAP

hehe, are you a chinese ?

I am a chinese wor......

Yes, the gas door is at the left. Let me try to grab some photos for you.

For the windows, you could use clear plastic sheet from Tamiya to build it.

Can't wait to see your progress.

thx guy!

ive put some more images in imagestation but i forgot how to show it here...can anyone teach me how plz?

had been 4 days since first started...the milliput i used to extend the rear end and the body had cracked off once at each point for 4 points...maybe cuz i forgot to roughen up the body b4 i applied milliput la...
to fix those cracks i super glued them, so from now on they wont fall apart anymore...

i guess this post is pointless without pics...so could anyone plz teach me how to link my pics from imagestation to af? thx very much and also...i cant upload pics into af gallery cuz it has a maximum size 80k and all my pics r bigger than that.

gaps between doors are being filled. panel lines made with dremel is kind of too wide...the monitor on the original dashboard is removed and i put a cd player instead, cuz think navigation systems is kind of uncommon to find in this car in real life...im going to use the original windows except the rear. window edges are remade to make it look more sedan like. interior came from fujimi lancer evo 3 with the civic dash.
ill get more pics quickly

Hey Marco, you need some grey putty to fill the crack. The grey putty from Tamiya is quite good, dry quickly and can be sanded smoothly.

clem, do you live in calgary now too? ive been in calgary for 7 years lu...
actually, this is my first try on doing something this big...i had never done any such conversions b4....but ive been planning on how to do this half a year ago...
ive read from the internet that the civics(at least eks) they all share wheelbase, so i would not need to section as much as i thought...i only need to do the back + rear doors
the first pic shows the references i used to help me do the conversion. the pics that i printed off are relatively haf similar size to 1/24 of the real car. so when i cut and connect the back/window edge/door panel line i have an idea of where to start cutting or puttying. an example of this would be like wat i did in second pic...looking at the rear of the real car i can see that the back of the 1:1 is wider so i know i haf to widen my model wif putty too.
RB26, the putty i used to connect the whole back to the rest of body is milliput (2 part epoxy~seems to hold 2 separate parts better than squadron.....) i used squadron for the rest of the other parts. i also used squadron to fill up the side gaps between the 2 doors and i had styrene strips to back the pieces up.
and my third pic, i started on the interior tub. it is from a fujimi evo 3 kit with modified center console. i painted the passenger seat and jacked up the head cusion with a cut paper clip. i planned to paint the whole interior testors flat light aircraft grey to mimic beige cloth.
hope u enjoy the pics, more coming soon^^

When I first saw the progress pics of the car all hacked up, I was like "No way!" Now you have totally removed all doubt from me. You are doing a stellar job on the conversion. The rear looks spot on. Sorry for doubting you, Keep it up!

btw: is this going to be a tuner or stock type, straight from the showroom vehicle. either way im looking forward to seeing it complete.

im going to make it a tuner sedan with spoon front hood/lip and mugen wing.maybe i will put in spoon mirrors too...the end result will look like these cars

Looking good!! I can't wait to see this done.

I am working on some similar projects, such as converting Mk3 Golf into Jetta and a Veilside Honda Civic coupe. How are you going to go about attaching the chassis to the body?

Slo_Snipe
01-12-2004, 07:32 PM
chassis is attached by adding a piece of plastic at the end of the chassis long enuff to connect the slots behind rear bumper. i had a pic of it at the beginning

the squadron putty on the sides cracked ' 'T_T''
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid99/p4226dd3f94adcb5c58061305d81c7122/f9f7d774.jpg
superglue wont even go into the gaps, and a slightly forceful pull on it made the whole chunk of putty chip out no matter how much superglue i put behind it...
im going to get rid of those squadron putty now and try again by filling the gap wif styrene bits and bond them with testors plastic cement
hope it works this time ~_~'

ive just replaced the squadron putty with styrene for the sides of the body. squadron putty all cracked apart a short time after drying except the last connection of the left part where i used milliput. the tape is there to help align the panels as the styrene is drying and may bend a little out of shape..
i also made the trunk lid slightly longer and wider(see how the putty now stretches farther behind and a little sideways too) now it should look more accurate than before..also made a faint panel line of the trunk lid. i will soon deepen them with....a dremel(same way i made the rear doors) i would think...or a small saw blade(can make a straighter panel line)...um..which one should i use?

Straight edge and a scriber. A dremel, no way! It isn't suited for fine work like that at all. You might use a saw for the first couple passes to make a straight line, but it isn't very good for fine work either. The only problem with the scriber is getting through the putty, you'll have to wait until the putty is completely 100% dry or it may crumble.

Your model looks fantastic. I've often daydreamed about something complex like this, but never grew the balls enough to work on it. I am really impressed with the scope and amount of work and how well its coming along. Just great! What are you doing about tail lamps?

Hey snipe,

Hobby City in Crowfoot sells 8 1/2 x 11" pieces of clear styrene in .1 and .3mm thickness to make the side glasses. You might even be to bend the .1 to adhere to the rear window! I think the .1 was less than $2 a piece. I should pick some up myself... The model is looking REAL good!!! You'll have something that definitely no one else will have (or ever attempt!).

hey i just came back from Hobby City 10 min ago!!
i have been trying to find clear styrene, but i only found .25mm thick white sheets and some roof tiles textured sheets in their box...
about the side window, im thinking if i just get rid of the rough strip (where i supposed to paint black for hatchback) and just use dat...i do need something to make the rear window though...
4 dr civic, ive actually seen one from the internet (someone called enzo?)'s website in frd gallery...dat inspired me to make a sedan too, except i will make the civic style rear end instead of that one which looked like....acura 1.6...kind of rear...

Ive done it!! instead of using clear styrene and try to bend them to shape, i stick to the rear window i had and tried to cut out the shape that fits the new rear end. after 2+ hours of constantly running my knife around to score the line, i ended up with a window that fits perfectly.

also added lower lip for rear bumper. it was there before i cut the back out, so i just bringing the original details back out.

thx guy!!
its all good...actually ive been working on a body kit project that involved as much putty work like this...practice makes perfect i guess...

sanded away the surfacer. now the rear end is much smoother...except 2 cracks at the edge of the window which i need to fill them again
when i was sanding, i figured out the right doors had lots of gentle but steep bumps and indents especially the top part of the doors. need to use more squadron putty and redo the mr surfacer process later. Its such a tedious step!

while i was waiting for the surfacer to dry i started to detail up the interior...speaker decals from left over revell civic...tachometer...carbon kevlar decals...engine management...etc...
using styrene tubes and sprues left from old kits i made a pretty unreal-looking exhaust.

Hey man,

That model is looking better and better! I say nay to those speaker decals (they seem a little flat). I saw someone made some pretty convincing speakers though, from that mesh stuff. This is going to be one nice car!! BTW, I just picked up my sheets of clear styrene from HobbyCity in hopes of bring an MR2 AW11 back to life. The only hard part may be to get them to adhere to the curved shape of a windshield...

clem..

um..not bad...good to know some more ppl from hk too :)

about the speaker decals, i was using them only because those had been in my parts box for a long time (about a year) and i thought i could make some use of them. i had been thinking too should i put a mesh on top of that slot but it would be kind of hard to cut...maybe i would just paint the whole speaker part black later...i dunno...

thx
good luck trying to fit the clear styrene.

wow ive realized that i had been working quite a bit more than i ususally do on car modelling, im getting used to sleep beyond 2am every night and its exam week...(me bad '~' "). ive just lowered the suspension, gave some cambers, and started painting the exhaust. more progress soon after i done more on the body
