ABS Problem

My Buddy has a 97/98 Windstar van.The ABS does not work on it.Would anybody have any ideas where to start?.The car has 140,000 KMs on it.
We worked on it last week and noticed the front sway bar was broken off on the front right side(anybody have this problem?)I thought maybe this may have damaged the sensor(how do you test?).Any help would be great!!!.We have to go to the wrecking yard for a rear wiper motor, front sway bar,any ABS parts we should get?.We where trying to solve the the check engine light problem(we changed the air filter, light stayed off for a week back on last night)
