Hi Texaslady,
I'm not sure what "service continuous codes" means, but that is the only reference I found to 1596 on the Diagnostic trouble code list I looked at.
http://www.svtlightnings.com/scantool/ford%20dtc%20codes.htm
The device that reads the codes also indicates whether it is a powertrain, chassis, body or Uart code. The list I reference above only indicates a 1596 in the "B" codes. Therefore I think it is referencing a fault in a body system, or the inability to read the body diagnostic codes for some reason.
Did they erase the code/shut off the light for you? If so did it re-occur? You might give that a try. You might also ask them to check again to see if there are multiple codes. You must scroll the scan-tool to check for multiple codes as it only shows one at a time. Also make sure what type of code (powertrain, chassis, body or uart) it is. Beyond that, someone at the dealer might be your best bet to talk to. Someone has seen the code before.
Good luck
