Hello
Thanks for checking this out.
This is my next project. The S15 will be done in graphite and pencils. I want to know what you guys think of the rims. Should I go all chrome or just chrome lip and dish with gun-metal center?
I will be making a special tutorial on head lights and chrome.

Take care

Thx Jetts and UncleMcgee.
I will do just the lip as chrome. That should look pretty nice.
I need to work a little bit on the front spoiler (intercooler openings), something doesn't look right.

hey asaenz, this will be one tight ride when ur done. i like BIG chrome but i think it would still be tizight though. yeah, i kinda noticed sumptin wrong wit da front if u stare at it for a while... but its not that noticeable. maybe there isnt anything wrong with, u might just have to finish it but if u do and there is something wrong with it... that would suck. hope u can figure it out. o yeah, how long do u think it took u to outline it so far, cuz that part of my drawings usually take awhile.( u know to get it all proportioned... but i just look at a pic and use no elipses or anything... thats why it takes so long) anyway ur drawing is damn sexy. sorry for talking too much lol

On the side closest to the wheels, the line bends too diagonally compared to the other line. I dunno, maybe it is just me...

Oops I modified the other side. Well here it is now. I fixed the front bumper hopefully the nostrals look better.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/3563401lofb.jpg
This is hard to do because I actually don't have angle I want in my photo references. I am using about 9 references to come up with this car. This is the most artistic thing for me. Usueally just work from a single photo. I am trying to change things up so much as to protect myself from copyright infringement. I plan on selling prints.
Thx Alex, you are correct that front bumper was messed up. I guess I could have gone either way, fix the left or right side to make them match. What do you think now?

have you considered a chrome outer ring with the inner rim the same color as the body ?
asaenz
01-14-2004, 04:56 PM
Wut up Kartoonz.
That is a great idea; that is what I am going to do.
The whole car will be in graphite which I like cuz silver/gunmetal is my favorite color. So the inner rims (centers) will be the same style of shading as the body and the outer rim rings will have high contrast to simulate chrome.
I almost have the top half of the car done (interior, duel nitrous setup, with racing seats, and the wing and sail pillar). I had to stop though to finish my Enzo for the drawing comp.
I should have an update pict. this Monday.

Ok finally got some progress.
Feel bad about starting this thread way back and not making quick results.
Interior shot.
Looks a lil grainy/blury due to my hand movement.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/35634int_siv.jpg
Entire ride.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/35634sil_prog-med.jpg
Things are coming along well. I did notice that the seat appears too small may have to enlarge that.
I am preparing to do the headlights next and I will take good photos and explain how I do them.
Thx for checking it out.
Once this thread gets back to the (end of 1st) 2nd page I will close it backup untill I get some more done.

you fixed the front fascia and now it works. your elipses are correct. however, the sliver of wheel from the jdm driver's side is set a wee bit too far back from the front lip. and it is incorrect as an arc in this vantage point. but i am nit-picking.
you did a great job interpolatiing from many sources, your lines are very accurate and convincing as an S15 -the very thing that may burn you if you make prints of it. but, actually, prints, lithographs, are considered "fine art," --- "safe." were you to strike posters of it, that is "commercial art," ---dangerous.
the front end is a dead-giveaway as an S15; is not vague enough IMHO to evade copyright infringement. but like i said, you will not have much fear if you run limited edition lithos.

True, ture, but...Then again, Al does like all the comments/critique that can help him. I mean, Mine are almost as good as some in colour, but I get alot of things wrong with b/w.I just started using elipses, and I don't mind nit-picking. Bonzite is VERY precise in his work, and can find these little things. But, if you don't want him to tell you anything about yours, just ask him not to.

yea he said he was just "nit-picking" he probably set there and looked for errors and the ones he said aren't that noticable. if someone has to set down and stare at your drawing to find something wrong with it then that is a good thing. yes it is true that he does "negative" feedback but that is what most people here are looking for. i don't post my work on here to show off or to be the best, i post it here to learn from people better and more experienced than me. in conclusion i enjoy a good beating also :icon16:

omg i love it, wow
damn, i think i asked this already but do you use 9H pencils up to 9B???

Thx Dommy
I use 2b mechanical lead. I found the lead at Staples.
With 2b mech lead you don't need anything softer (IMO)
I am also trying something new. Once the entire car is completely done I will spray workable fixative on the surface. I will then go over all the darks w/ 2b again and that will create a super dark done, almost black.
It should really make the white highlights brighter and bring the car to life.

Thx Bonzelite,
I think you are right on the arch being to far, but incorrect on the degree of the arch. I re-examined my ref. and the degree is correct, I think. No big deal. Ofcourse it is hard to tell I widened all the tires. I appreciate your critique.
Thanks also for the copyright tips and the observations, but they went in one ear and out the other....hee hee....just joking. :)
Thx again everyone for peeping it and your encouragement.

No you didn't buy them for nothing. The 2b mech is just my preference. To me the 2b + pencils start looking more like gun metal (well graphite) :)
The hardest lead I have used is 4h wood pencil.
I like the 2b mecha. because I can get very fine dark lines with it, like for the window trim and the dark lines that useually outline head lamps and such. I also use hb mech. pencil. I would say the majority of my work is w/ hb & 2b mech. pencils. I do use wooden pencils for layering and for big jobs.
I suggest you try many diff. things you may find new ways to use them or like them even better than what I use.
