i think technology is a replacement for displacement. Take for example the Nissan Skyline R34 GTR it is twin turbo charged 3.2 litre 6 cylinder engine you can swap the turbos for bigger ones the most powerful skyline has 1600bhp and was built by HKS i know there are mustangs out there with over 1000bhp but they have superchargers and that is the only way they get over the Size problem because you can only make the engine so big before it becomes too heavey. Forced induction is the way to go!

Racing at an industrial park at 2am where everybody there is there by choice = fine with me. If you're spectating at a street race, realize theres a chance you'll get killed. Don't like that? Then go home
Racing on a populated city street where anything can happen and people can get killed = NOT

there is no replacement for displacement, to an extent. even the import crowd relies on higher displacement, with people regularly swapping out the 1.5s in their civics for 1.6s and 1.8s. the fastest fwd car in the world relies on a 2.2liter motor, much larger than the stock motor. the fastest 4 cylinder i know of (norwood racings integra running mid 5s) has a 4.8 liter 4 cylinder. that is ridiculously huge for a 4 banger! there is a point when it gets out of hand though, i think, such as the 8 and 9 liter + motors some domestic racers use (and the 4.8 liter 4 banger!) at that point its just like a big pissing contest like whoever has the biggest motor has the biggest testicles or something

I was going to pass on this one, since it has nothing to do with the topic, but I just couldn't let it go. You must have misread the time for that 'Teg, because what your talking about is NHRA caliber performance. Not NIRA, NHRA. You know....those top fuel drag rails that weigh in at about 800lbs with about 1200hp strapped to the back and pull low 4's- high 3's. Thats the kind of performance your talking about with mid 5 sec timeslips. Even the fastest drag bikes aren't that fast. You'd have to be packing a couple thousand ponies under the hood to motivate an all tube frame Integra down the strip that fast, let alone a stripped down stocker. I'm sure if there was an Integra that fast out there, it would be on the NIRA circuit mopping the floor with Paisley, and Papadakis in the Outlaw Class. Sorry man but when it looks and smells like warm steaming horse apples, I gotta say bullsh*t.
P.S. I'm not even going to touch the whole five liter, 4 cyl thing. :D

how much horse power does that 4 banger make because Top Secret of Japan used a 2.2 MR2 engine and added a huge turbo to it and got 800bhp there is a replacement or displacement you fucking moron
you think you'd have power without technology? What did you do to your car first to make it go faster Bore it out? NO U FUCKING DIDN'T
1.6 litre B16 engine's have VTEC and a lot more parts are built for them does a 1.4 no. If you applied the same technology to a fucking LT1 engine I'm sure you'll get better power figure as it is 100bhp per litre from a B16 is alot more than the LT1.

And what happens when you put a blower on a V8? The exact same thing... BUt since it's a bigger engine with higher displacement, it's got more HP than some turbocharged civic or whathaveyou.

Man, what is up your ass? Every post I go to I see you ranting about how Japanese motor's are so superior to domestic. Well all this extraneous blathering begs the question, WHAT'S YOUR FUCKING POINT! You keep talking about horsepower like thats what actually moves your car. WRONG! Horsepower is a rating for energy produced, meaning it is a measure of an engines thermodynamic efficiency. TORQUE is what moves your car. Torque is the measurment of the amount of force required to move an object a predetermined distance, or force x distance = Torque hence the term "lb/ft of torque". That's why when you put a 00' Si (111lb/ft @ 7K) vs say a stock Mustang GT (302lb/ft @ 4K) the Si loses everytime. No one denies the fact that import car makers engineer their engines so as to extract the maximum amount of power possible, making them extremely thermodynamically efficient. This means lower emmisions, and higher gas mileage. But when you consider the size of the engine you realize why they try to ring as much power as they can from every liter of displacement. They have to, that is if they wish to motivate a 2600lb car with any authority. If you compare the power and torque that can be extracted from a Mustang GT vs a Civic Si (with an unbiased eye that is) you soon see that all things being equal you will always be able to extract more power from a larger motor. Basically it boils down to this, it doesn't matter how many turbos you add to a smaller displacement motor, if you add the same turbos to a larger displacement motor you will get more power. As a fellow PH member used to say "The volume of your argument cannot alter the nature of physics".
