1st car? nissan? go with a sentra se-r...fwd is good for beginner drivers, plus its a hell of alot more reliable than a 240.
i must admit, having the 240 as my 1st car was a learning expiriance....

The older sentras are nice and (if memory serves) they offer a n/a sr20 stock. A maxima isn't bad also. The maxima has good aftermarket support. I suggest you get cefiro headlights if you get a mid 90s maxi...they look hot if installed right.
Personally a J-body is much better to start out with than any Nissan FWD...as far as RWD is concerned...I like the 240sx.

get a civic man, seriously dont take it as a bad thing...if youre new, you could learn alot from a honda, plus the aftermarket is huge and cheap. save yourself some cash.

If you want a sports car then a jbody is a pos...but if you want a car you can beat the shit out of and modify while having cheap parts readily available then they aren't too bad. Imports suck at having as much cheap parts...look at how many cavaliers/sunfires you see at junkyards...all the parts are easy as hell to get...and cheaper than fuck...
The car may not be really powerful...but it weighs very little (a little over 2500) and has decent power (135ft lb) and gas mpg is amazing (25 city; 37 highway). Cavalier is also a jbody...not just a sunfire...
If you want a sports car then definitely get a rwd car...not a fwd...fwds push through turns, have the worst weight distributions (unless rear engined...but how often do you see that drivetrain?) and are in general not suitable for spirited and fun driving. To me, the best fwd on the market right now is the new mini cooper...great handling, weighs nothing and is pretty cheap. Other than the mini cooper...fwds are useful for economy/ commuting.

Now THAT is a starter answer lol.
FWD or a shitty RWD like a Chevette is a good car. I learnt to drive on a civic. Theyre awesome cars, theyre just not mean to be sports cars.
The handle like a dream and stop on a dime in your everyday situatiion. Go get an EF chassis hatch to trash around, you'll have the time of your life.

seriously, i say get a mustang 5.0 with a 5speed. Cheap to fix, cheap to build and you can do alot of the work yourself. Plus the 302 has been around for decades so you can find parts everywere. They are actualy very reliable but you have to remember that if you get a 86-87 you "must" to convert to mass air, which is also cheap and widley available. Other wise modifications wont take well at all and screw things up.

flame me if you want, but i've always liked the look of 4th gen Civic hatches when done cleanly and properly and not all riced out. i wouldn't mind having one for a while if one came to me at an in-opportune price...but nah.

Those 4th gens can be built into serious track cars. Put on some 15x7 rotas, slicks, coilovers, b18 swap and you are keeping up with M3s.

Where are you from? You can start driving here in Alabama when you are sixteen.I have been working on cars since I was ten so i have some experience on how to do most of the stuff. My experience was during an
afternoon job at my friend's dad's place, but he wouldn't let us touch any of the modded out cars.Still learned to do some stuff though, between my friends and my brother wrecking their cars on a 24hour basis.I hope to be starting an internship there soon and save up some money to buy myself a nice car.Unlike most of those rich people preps that get their daddys to buy them any car they want. :nono: :evillol:

seems like this is your FIRST car, not your FIRST RACER CAR... please throw people in with facts like budget, location, interest, not throw people out with "i'm a newbie racer!" and etc... all of us have been through your phase, and yeah this car fanatic thing it gets pretty hyped up when your at that age. looks to me like you'll be best fitted with a 91-93 240sx fastback (if you plan on getting one soon). it's very budget minded cause it costs nearly nothing to buy! but keep in mind that if you want to "start off" good, get something good. get a better model. se or le. that's my suggestions for your future 240sx.
as for any other car, dood seriously get a honda! older models do seem a little inflated, but if you wanna get "started off" you can't go wrong with hondas. they're ultimately the most cheapest and universal pos you can start tuning. there is a lot of support you can get(like unlimited support)over at honda, and nissan is barely starting to grow (because of the "drift coolness". please dont tell me you want to start initial-d'ing with your first car...) but yeah, pretty long summary up in here...lol
if you are seriously(SERIOUSLY) up for a sport car with the balance of handling, styling, and power, grab a 240.

an old Honda Civic or Accord would be good for you. Just cause you work on em doesn't mean you know how to drive them. And just cause you can pass a DMV driving test doesn't mean you know how to drive lol. In florida I believe the kids have to be 18 to get a liscense now, which I think is a good idea. Im almost 21 now, when I look back to see how I acted when I was 16 and everyone else I knew at that age Im surprised they would even let us drive lmao.... do some real stupid shit.
I've always been a halfway decent driver, and every week it just seems like I keep learning more and more. A year ago I thought I was an ok driver in performance, a year later I look back and can tell a noticeable improvement in things like situational awareness, judging spaces, and throttle manipulation. All these young teenager ricers that come out that think they are mario andretti and have been driving for a month with their mom's accord are so full of shit their hair is brown. Any monkey can go fast around a corner, to know what you are actually doing and fine control of the car in any situation is a whole different ballgame. I wonder how decent I will drive when im 35 and look back to compare how I was when I was 20..... lol, hell by that time we might not even have traditional cars like we have now.

Get the biggest POS you can find. Brian, the moderator drove around in a 1988 Pontiac Tempest V6, but it was a great first car. It was big, torquey, and a handfull to drive, which taught him how to safely drive a car. And it was a rust-bucket which meant he could fuck around with it without the fear of ruining a nice car.

Ok, your dumb. If this is your attitude, you dont deserve a Nissan, not even an SR20 powered Sentra, which are some of the greatest FFs in existence.
Brian and Fliquer are both right, 4th gen hatches can not only look good, but can rip up most cars on the track(yes including the 240). If you belive in FF drift, well, they can even drift, as seen by Kyle Arai in Hawaii. Seriously dude, get a beater and trash the shit out of it. If you need RWD, get a Chevette or something. When your 18 or 19, get a 240.
Im only 16, and I have a long way to go before I get a 240. I dont plan on getting one as a first car, hell, I think Ill have an SR swap by the time Im 20. If you dont have the turbo to lean on, then you get to develop your techique in car control better, because you can mash the gas and get the rear to slide.
Make the right choice, buy a shit car.

Yeah the 2004 does look a little better, but doesn't the new camry or something have very similar headlights? I really like the EVO better (the regular lancer looks like shit though). Plus a modified evo doesn't look nearly as ricey (usually) compared to a modifed WRX

take a look at any Subaru that has outside mods besides wheels and it looks like ricer garbage, this is a true thing. Its sort of the rice boys performance car, its faster then a honda, its new, and they make parts for it LOL. 95% of local WRX owners I would define as rice.....
True the American EVO does have clear tail lights, which is a first, but shit they don't look half that bad, the whole point of tail lights like that is why spend 200 bucks on some shit like that when you could buy a performance part. If the car already comes that way from the factory, and it looks halfway decent, its not that big of a deal.
EVo will lay the smack down on the STi in everything but the 1/4 mile, and then you say well its better cause its faster, while most of you always say you could care less about drag racing, lets not contradict ourselves now.
:screwy:
In every test I have ever seen from any source the EVO ALWAYS, ALWAYS is faster then the STi when it comes to track racing or even off-roading. Rhys Millen took them both for a test drive and he put the EVO through the rally course at a faster time. It is a better driving machine, it is more precise and track oriented. Where as the STi is a bit more brutish, almost like an american car lmao. I wonder how bad the EVO would lay the law down on the STi if we got the electronic controlled diffs from the Jap Spec model on ours..... they are supposed to make a big difference, even though the EVO is pretty good how it is now.
Bottom line, would I drive a STi if someone gave me it? YES...... Would I buy one over an EVO? NO.
and just to add about modifications, I think the EVO has that hands down, I personally just do not like the boxer 4 turbo setup and associated plumbing mess with the exhaust. I-4 turbo setup with a FMIC is a good platform to mess with. On the other hand the WRX has a top mounted intercooler with less space and more heat soak to contend with. Also its exhaust must come from one side of engine, meet up with other bank's exhaust, then hit the turbo, then exit via the downpipe.

its usually not too good when a girl says something is cute LMAO.....
one time I had this shirt on and she said it was "cute", I immediatly changed it and threw it on the floor LOL.
Im not to fond of the mx6, it doesn't look too bad in a picture but when you see it up close in person you appreciate it for the shitbox that it is. I think the 240sx has just the opposite effect, In a picture they are so so, but when you see one that isn't trashed or riced out in person it looks a hell of a lot better then a picture could do, maybe I just like em. I think they have good build quality along with outside finish for a jap car despite some people's opinions, plus the frameless doors own joo.
the MX6 is just plain cheap, hey but its basically a Ford, what can u say.

Ok if your looking for the first nissan as your first car and you wanna do some racing i would sugjest a 240sx or a 300z. If you wanna race RWD is the way to go, manual, and the 240sx are easy to get and are fairly cheap to build, but not the cheapest. Also if you gradualy build it up the car will build as your experiance builds. Be very carful not to build over what you can handle. Im tired of seeing these &*@ing 16yr old kids going out buying these 300-400HP cars then think they are speed racer in the Mach-5. They always end up taking thereselves and usualy someone else out. These are the people that get everyone else in trouble. So get a 240sx get used to how it handles go to an abandond parking lot and do skid tests so you know what if feels like right befor you brake loose, then drop an sr20det in and go nuts and over the few years it takes you to build it into a real streer racing car you should be able to drive it the way it was meant to be driven.
In short Nissan 240sx if your poor like me, 300z if you have money to burn but dont get the 300z with highcas steering unpredictable in those
s- curves. And no matter what dont let you car out grow your skills it takes time.
