Hi folks, most of you have probably seen these pics before and I don't know if they are official or not, but I thought they may interest some people on here, maybe some 'sucker for punishment' will build one?

Overal look is great, but the Wing (look a lot like the 206 one) don't fit this car at all

yes, agree. What is the problem with the wing??? can it really make any downforce?

That wing is a little bit weird, but everything else, I think looks pretty good. I like most of it.

Why exactly IS there a rally forum on AF?

Honestly, the new Mitsu WRC is already being discussed in the rally section of AF, you are all welcome to join the discussion there:

Looks great except for the rear wing as everybody has already mentioned. Very strange since you'd think the further back the more downforce it would generate. Only thing I can think of is that the lower element of the Peugeot style double wing needs to be in close proximity to the windscreen to operate. Either that or they don't want too much downforce at the rear in order to keep the car balanced.

Must be set up to allow for heaps of front wheel travel with those massive wheel arches and clearance.

WRC cars certainly seem to be getting more radical. First the new Focus and now this!

Love it!! but once more...get rid of that wing!! A nice GT Scooby style wing will go down a treat on that.

The real question is...will Tamiya/Fujimi/Hasegawa make a kit of it??

Thought that I would let you guys know that I started building it over the weekend from the VII kit I had laying around. Will post pics when the front end is done.

As for the spoiler, the shape is to give some lateral force, if thats the right word. The force produced by a surface goes at 90degrees to that surface. This means that as the wing curves the force is pushing towards the centre of the car, increasing high speed straight line stability. Subaru achieved this with multiple vertical elements on their car.

As for the position, this is due to the lever effect, force x distance etc. The further away from the pivot (rear axle) the downforce is applied, the more weight or force is required at the front. This means that by moving the spoiler forward, they can massively increase downforce without requiring more weight at the front to prevent the steering lightening at high speed.

Maybe all my hours studying aeronautics in the airforce weren't wasted after all.

for me for the first look the wing looks preaty smart, I think it grabs "clean" and "fast" flowpath going from the roof of the car. another reason to move it forward is, maybe, to move point of applying aerodynamical force generated by the wing closer to the centre of gravity of the vehicle.
I agree it looks quite strange but I am sure they had good reason to do it this way :)

Awesome, maybe now we can get this thread moved back to the modelling forum!

although not a specialist in the aero-field, I also thought that it had to do with the proximity to the windscreen. Seems logical because otherwise the wind would probably drop too much if the wing is too far in the back.
