Sorry for the late reply..not been about for a bit. Im in the UK. If I airmail them they'll take 4-7 days.

I got a few other bits from that kit too, like a wierd sedan grille and headlights, the windows, tail lights. dash, door panels etc. You can have the lot if you want. I'm mailing out a load of stuff I sold on ebay on Monday so I can send them then if you want. Here's some pics ..this looks the same as the back of you car like by the look of it...

I've been getting on with the resto of my coupe R31 ...it's come out better than expected. :naughty: I'll post a thread for it i think.
That's cool, I managed to paint some of the tails(that needs to be black.) But got a lil dribble in one of the lenses, any idea how to get it out? The lenses will be flat red(outta transparent).

Well, here's what's happened: Sorted and fitted front suspension, decided the front wheels need some camber :naughty: , but after the suspension pieces dried, I realized, drift cars have camber on the rear wheels. DOH!(exactly what I said! ) Anyway, I tried to rip one of the wheel-disc combo off and crack, the glue dried the male's, well you know inside the hole and it broke off! :crying: So, Do I drill it out, and make a new one from brass rod, or glue the wheel back on have it posable but no movable? Here's some quick pics:

"drift cars have camber on the rear wheels"

:screwy: .... I have never seen a drifter with rear wheel camber, Its usually the front wheels tho...

that sucks that you busted up your brakes man, I would say drill it out and make a new one out of some sprue or, brass rod other than that, its still looking pretty good, have ya painted up the body yet??

do you use an airbrush at all?

86_SR5
12-08-2003, 07:31 PM
My, $170 airbrush is used only, and I mean only for custom paint jobs, such as the one I did on my cousins super stallion. I'm still working on the body, seeing as the grill it has on the front keeps clawing at me and saying, "kut me out!" and I'm a lil afraid to do it, but have plenty mesh to fill it in. I've primed the undercarriage however, but with this cold ass weather and the way the sapphire blue acts, it's a bitch to get just right.

UPDATES: Time for another update. Here's what I've done....I decided, well, who really needs a sound system in a drift car, I'll save it for something else. The roll cage kinda got stepped on by my dog, and luckily on the weak fujimi plastic rear supports cracked off, out comes the dremel to straighten and clean where the supports broke, and in place comes some .100 styrene rod. I kinda fudged the r34 seats a bit, using Hiro's technique to drill out the space left inside by Tamiya, only my pen vice (finally got one, but is dull) wouldn't penetrate, so I heated up the tip, I guess too much and removed the inside part, and the lil sleeve inside the seat. So I spent my time carving it out on both seats to get a clean-ish look. I wanted a bright red for my seats, had some candy laying around in a bottle, so I sprayed flat black primer (big mistake!) I air brushed some candy red on the seats over the flat black primer, and had a lil water in my compressor, so I have a floked look on the front of the seats, not the problem though. The problem is, the seats are wayyyy tooo dark. Probably because I used flat black instead of the white I use for bright colors. Any way to brighten the seats, and just so ya know, stripping the paint is outta the question. Here's the pics, I'm gona go lie back down. Been sick with the flu, so haven't done much modeling.

quick mock-up, I realize the right rear support is off now, with a little bending it'll be back in place. I also decided I'm going to add the forward struts, and the top struts to make a 10pt cage, and that'll be it for interior mods.

Nice lookin cage dude, looks pretty good, I agree, the seats are a tad dark for my liking, but thats just me, personally i say just paint over em with some gloss red, thats the way i do it up!, and for the rims on your car, i say just leave em as is.

UPDATES: Well....I've got to ditch the full cage idea and simply use what I've got, maybe I'll add the forward bars, but will have to upper ones. Reason being, the cage sits in the pretty much middle of the car, and I had to move the cage back 3mm, and the steering wheel forward 2mm for the seat to fit. Not only because of lack of room, but because of cluttering. The interior is basically cluttered as can be now. Also, I painted my two N20 bottles electric blue, but they came out dull, so I brushed some true blue pearl onto them and they look real good now. I'll add pics a lil later on today.

I was starting to wonder about this project, and hoping you'd update soon. I think the seats look fine, and if you add seatbelt hardware I doubt anyone would notice the holes being a little big. Too bad about the roll cage, I think a full cage would have been a little more appropriate but I can see where you're coming from. Hope you feel better, and get this thing back underway!

Oh, and your wheels, I say leave them as is also. I don't think I've ever seen a painted stock wheel that looked halfway decent. The retro style is kickin'!

Thanks for the support, I've been working on the seatbelts, trying to finish up the shoulder pads and such. I am disapointed with the roll-cage, but my next skyline will have a full cage. R32 combat veilside, but that's gonna be a while. BTW, thanks for your opinion on my car's puny wheels. Although they appear to be stock, they aren't. I have one of the stock rims as a full-size spare, if you saw the spare this car came with, you'd sware it was a donut! The wheels on my car are Carroll Shelby Racing Inc. 4pt take-offs. Very popular wheels for this car, I've seen a few corollas with them, and I'm going to get some nice gunmetal 6spoke rims on-line eventually, can't beat 4 new tires& new rims 17x7 4lug for 500bux with no tax and free shipping. I just thought I'd try and paint my spokes black, and give it a lil tude. I might still do it, maybe in a few months when the whether is warmer. BTW, Here's the N20 bottle pics I promised.

Thought you might like to see mine. I built the GTS-R HR31 kit up as a "drifter" for a laugh (the first paint reacted a bit so it wasn't worth the hassle to try and make it into a perfect GTS-R like I originally wanted).

Got camber ?

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87834gtsrlowfrontcamber.jpg

Race seats from an old RX7 touge kit, and my "titanium" half cage (used the main hoop from the kit, with custom diagonal bars to the rear. Main hoop needed about 8mm of extension, BTW, was too short)

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87834gtsrinterior.jpg

My cannon - used original muffler, an offcut of sprue, and a section of stainless steel tube that once formed a ball point pen body for the tip. best shot I have.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87834gtsrrearqtr.jpg

And the overall view:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/87834gtsrdoriftaaah-med.jpg

Personally I think I might put a gt-wing on and heaps more stickers. Also have some flat black painted AVS model 5 18" rims (but I cheated and just mounted them on brass rods fr/rr , so no steering or camber with them on)

Oh and heres the 1:1 R31 sedan I drive, every day. I know the pic's dark, its like, artistic....

Your silver R31 is a beauty aswell, I'd love to drive one of those, I get to drive an R33, once a year, my freind chris brings his down for christmas. It's a blast to drive. Heres one that was featured in a local Japanese Import magazine here in Australia - Look past the detail (I badly photochopped out some dodgy yellow, chrome and red decals that were all over the side of it and resized it for a sig) and look at the bigger picture....Some Vienna krisis wheels would be ideal (btw, where the hell can I get those!?!? ), IMHO....

NO worries, thanks mate! the R31 coupe actually looks a bit more average in person, its what I call a "top shelf quality" model - it looks its best on a very high shelf, at the other side of the room

My 1:1 isn't a bad thing, handles well, but its not real fast - some mods are in store for it....Its no R33 GTS25T at the moment, but it should whip their arses one day soon... :evillol:

That car is clean, I love that wingless, deep dish rim look. Amazing I have to say. You shouldn't complain about your R31 not being very fast. Just say, "hey, it's no R34, but it's still a skyline, and that's all that matters." That's what I do when people make fun of my corolla, I just call it an AE86, 8-6 for short. It says on the firewall ****AE86***

What's your 1:1 got in it... RB30? A friend of mine found one like that in a wreckers here and bought it for £150. It had a busted side window and dead waterpump. It's the only one I've ever seen as we never got R31's here (or R30's). It's got a leather interior and a/c etc. Very nice car...I did consider buying it off him to replace my Laurel (same floorpan as an R31 but different styling and an L24 ...totally gutless :cwm27: )

Ok, let me start off by saying thanks. Thanks to all of those who advised me and guided me through this process. Ok, now, I realize the seats look brighter, but I was just too lazy to shoot gloss red over the dark, so they'll stay dark. No big thing to me. I have finished half the seat belts. I just glued the belts together because, A: I have no way to get photoetched seatbelt pieces. B: Even if I had them, I couldn't work with stuff that small. C: I plan on entering the car in a Valentines day model contest, just held on Valentines day, no relation to the day it self, and they don't allow photo ethced parts such as metal seatbelt pieces. So, that's why I just glued them together. As far as the top pieces go, I can't install them until the cage is glued in the car, because the top parts will secure on or around the cage. I know the second pic is blury, and I know the takata decals aren't just right. This was a quick photo chop. So, just wanted to keep all of you updated.

Yeah, its an RB30E with some intake/exhaust mods, making about 175hp at the fly (I'm under no illusion I can turn it from silk purse to sow's ear, thats why I'm saving for the turbo/manifold/injectors/cam/ECU from an RB30ET). I like it! Ours are different to the Jap ones, in that we get the SOHC 3.0 motor, and we get a 4-link with panhard rod and a Borg Warner diff instead of IRS and R200.
Its no drag racer, but it gets along damn well (G-tech'd at about 0-100kmh in 8.2s, should run a mid 16 by my reckoning)well, good enough to keep me entertained until the turbo kit, which should be good for about 250hp at the tyres :evillol: But yeah they RB30 isn't a bad motor by any means, its a willing performer, last forever, and make good bottom end power (I can pull away in top gear at 50kmh smoothly, if not quickly).
It is a basic spec car, which means wind up windows and cheap interior with cloth seats, and a manual gearbox, but it has power steer and air con, and makes up for the lack of luxo options with the fact it is almost 120kg lighter than the rest of the R31 range (1280kg with fuel).

That one you came across sounds like a Passage GT, was it pillarless? I think the Aussie Ti (top spec luxury model) only has a velour pimp style interior. If you could get it cheap enough, mate, buy it! The waterpump should be the same as the RB30S patrol, by the way, or any other RB30 powered car, pretty much all RB pumps are interchangeable, RB30 and GT-R pumps are the best ones though.

Oh they look fine, yeah, but they're 15" diameter and 6" wide. I am planning to fit 16x7.5" and 16x8.5" rims, which will let me run a lower profile tyre (and open up my choices for R-spec track tyres), and a wider tread, as well as widening my car's track width to help stability and "mechanical grip". This is a handling upgrade, not for looks! Basically it should sharpen the turn in to corners and help negate some tyre related understeer I am experiencing. I also need the extra space to cover my new rotors and 4 piston calipers.
I'm planning to enter a few club motorsport events (timed lap sprints, club track days) in the coming year so thats why, in a nutshell, I want to change the rims.

86_SR5, I'm really sorry for HiJacking your thread!!

Looks like it is coming together well anyway, keep going!!!No problems here. It's related to R31, so I'm not complaining. BTW, I auto-enhanced the pic alot, to show what the belts look like. They're really quite dark. BTW, yes, Shoulder straps will be done, that's why I said I have to wait till the cage is in. Because, instead of cutting 2 strips, and glueing individually, I'm going to cut 1 long strip, slip through the belt holder, around the main loop of the cage, and out the other belt loop. That'll make a shoulder strap 2 n' 1.

Haven't arrived yet. But I'm not worried about them getting here real soon. BTW, I have some UPDATES! . I wish now that I would have dremeled out the original exhaust, uinstead of sanding it away, because you can see the exhaust pipe right under the side skirts. Oh well, I guess I learned something :iceslolan Next time I'll dremel it out so I can stick some pipe into the undercarriage so it's tucked up further into the undercarriage. I'm thinking of brushing the oil pan, tranny, tranny brace, driveshaft loop/brace in aluminum, and the rear end in red.

Ok, if its got an RB30E, that grille, those lights, and IRS, its definitely a series1 or 2 South African model. They actually continued selling them there right into about 1992. The next model update has a different grille, lights and bonnet.
They make more power than the Aussie ones due to running on leaded fuel and not having all the emissions crap ours does. Would be a nice car, actually.. Especially if its manual...

Well, it's that gracious, glourious time again for updates. Well, I'm a little mad. Here's why: I got a bright idea to carve the lil scoop that is seen in the vspec 2 r34's hood into mine, didn't go as planned :angryfire So, I drilled out a big whole and squared off the back. Since the drill kind shmelted some of the hood :angryfire I had to devise a plan to cover this up, wipped out the 60,120,150,280,600 grit papers to smooth it up, but still had that big ugly whole. So, I went online to look at some old 300zx's and found an 85 300zx-T and it had a little scoop right over the turbo. IDEA!! :thinkerg: I'll make a lil scoop like that just large enough to cover the hole in the hood. Now, I don't honestly know how the scoop functions, but i'm guessing RAM AIR. So anyway, I fixed that, needs a lil putty and sanding but the hood is cool. Problem 2: When the bit heated up and melted the hood, it melted and disformed the left a-pillar :newburn: GOD DAMNIT! I think I said it so loud, Eddie might've heard me :grinno: So, I still have a lil to fix on it, but fixed most by sanding with 60 grit to level the arm back out. So, I got back on my pc, and was looking at sub-way's gold wide body supra with the te37's that he bent the centers in, the whole time I'm pressing my thumb litely on one of my nismo rims, and I happen to glance at it. And at first I was like, Oh fuck, not again! But then it hit me, I'll do the same to all and acheive the effect he did! :thinkerg: So, I was bending one and punched the centers out. SON OF A BITCH! but then, I glued it back in and broke another and glued the other back in. I had all of them in far, but the 2 I had to glue, can't be bent in as far, so those'll be used on the front, luckily one of them was the one that the male lost his,....prong.... So, I fixed the rims, semi fixed the a-pillar, semi fixed the hood problem. And painted some of the under carriage with alumi-chrome, chromed the rear compartment of the car and the cage. ADVICE:!!!!! If you're using a can of chrome spray paint, from krylon and such, don't use grey primer. Use gloss black it adds even more realism to the piece. I also alumi-chromed the turbos, intake, and viewable motor pieces. Whoo! that was alot.

Cage and rear compartment.

All that's left to do, is felt the interior for carpet, put the interior together, finish the scoop and a-pillar, sand with 1200 prime, and paint, and it's done!

I took a look at Subway's Supra (again) to see what you're talking about. At first they looked like bent photo-etch in an aluminum sleeve (anyone wanna start putting these out??). I don't know if you looked on the second spread on the car, the page that chronicled the build, but it appears he got aluminum sleeves to put the rims in, cut off the original outside, thinned the spokes, bent the spokes, then glued them into the aluminum sleeve. That's likely how he avoided breaking the spokes. But no matter, your rims look good and you can't tell there was trouble. There or anywhere on the car, actually, the A-piller and the hood look fine and the vent is cool. Your roll cage looks good as does your undercarriage. Good work salvaging what looks to be a poorly molded part! Some detail painting will really liven it up. I like your exhaust too. Good work. Can't wait to see it done.

Oh, and though I don't mind, some of people around here might take issue with your language. Like I said, I don't mind, but I would mind less if you toned it down a little....

Ok, I'll watch the language. Sometimes I can get out of hand, and I trully apologize for it. BTW, I did some more work to the scoop, nothing much to how, just puttied a little opening, just enough to seal it shut.

Well, the problems you've had sure aren't too apparent on the car! It looks great still! The hood scoop works well. In the little package I sent there is another body shell. Although it's not much use in itself as the wheel arches are opened up to suit a body kit, if you needed a pillar or something it could be useful.

Kudos to you for getting the chassis looking good. I didn't bother but kind of wish I had... maybe next time :iceslolan Is the blue on the chassis the colour that's going on the body? I think I'd just stick to black and silver for the detailing of the suspension ...red willclash with the blue big time :eek7:

I built a cage for mine but in the end I didn't use it because it just wouldn't fit with the front seats in place

86_SR5
12-22-2003, 03:20 PM
Yeah, that's the blue I'm using. I'll still have the red seat inserts but I'll be doing some blue stripes and such to brake them up. Also, I'm almost done carpeting the floorplan. Thanks for your support and the parts you sent Eddie.

12-22-2003, 03:30 PM
The parts arrived, yeah? Those lights any use?

The red on the interior will be cool... I just wouldn't use it for any detail underneath. What are you carpetring it with? Flocking? I haven't ever done that myself ...I might have to give it a go sometime. Maybe on my 300ZX (I'm gonna post a progress thread on that this evening)

No, they haven't arrived yet, but I was just thanking you again. But, I talked to a postman today and he said sometime in the next week area, since they have off from tomorrow through saturday and we dont get post on sunday. To do the carpet, I bought a 20cent piece of grey felt. I just cut it to shape, glue it in with testors tube glue. BTW, I changed my mind with the red diff., it'll either stay blue, have a chromeish gear cover, or be all alumi-chrome. I'll have some completed pics of the interior in a few hours, I'm going work on them as we speak.

Nice progress update, sucks that you bent and broke all that stuff, but that will just make it more of a challenge in the end!, I like the little scoop, it fits in with the car, the scoop isnt rounded at all, so it flows with the car... in a chunky way.. the skyline is a very "chunky" car, almost box like. I like this, chunky is masculine, I dont like cars that are all fluid and organic, kind of girly, anyways im gettin OT, so great to see more updates, take it easy and have a merry christmas :sunglasse

Finally, some good updates. These are some interior shots, I'll have more later tonight. By then, most, if not all of the interior will be done (with exception of the NOS bottles, I need the decals). I'll be working on the seatbelt shoulder straps in a bit, also. I'm on a quest to find those Takata racing harnesses, well a decent pic. I think I have one on the harddrive. Stay tuned for more.

Did you make that roll cage. If so VERY NICE. I still think it would look cool if you put the nawz where you regularly had planned. But thats just me. Great job, and hope to see more posts soon! :)

....I'm not even going to answer to the 'nawz' remark. But I had a fun ass time glueing the seat belts and all in last night, so If they look like shit. i really don't care, because I'll be spraying dull-coat on the interior to hide glue droplets. I made bits and pieces of the cage, I made the main loop brace, knew rear supports, floor extensions, and the bars where the NOS tanks were going to be. The reason I was gona put them there, was because I know a guy named 'twa' that has a hella fast v6 6spd turboed maxima, 94 I believe and it has a similar cage with the two NX bottles mounted where I had planned to put mine. But the other day, I sat in the back to get and idea about how it'd look, and as I was getting out, I slammed my head into the nx bottle. Talk about some pain.

Also, the glue fogged the passenger seat, but the dull-coat will fix that, and I'm thinking of tinting the windows so you cant really see too much inside.

Well, I'm a little disapointed that no one's said anything about my crappy seatbelts, but hey, I said it didn't matter, and it doesn't bug me! So, I decided I'm gona snap some pics of the car with it's dented' wheels. I did a lil editing and gave the pics some tude' to re-inforce me to keep working, I haven't done anything since last update :disappoin . I need re-inforcement, or it'll end up not done.

i think you should mount the belts on the bar right behind the headrest. mounting the hharnesses like that could brake your back in a crash. looks good though!

Yeah, I was thinking that eaxact thing last night, so I stripped them where they're mounted, and used the top bar and the main loop for securing points, looks 10x's better now. I'll post pics in a few hours. BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Well, I've sanded the body with 100grit automotive paper, and primered it, just one coat. Also, I did primer some front wheels, Took pics of wheels, not the car :screwy: twa has borrowed the cam, and will bring it back tomorrow. Well, then I'll have some car pics, but here are my 2 front wheels, in their painting process:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002105.jpg

Gotta wash, scrub and hand dry to be sure it's clean, then I sanded it with 240grit, then passed some 600 grit paper litely over them.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002104.jpg

Here's one of the wheels taped off, and primered in Wal-Mart's Color Spray $1.63 USD Grey Indoor/Outdoor, wood, metal, vinyl spraypaints. They work well.

PICS: How the car is sitting outside right now on the jackstands:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002107.jpg

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002106.jpg

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002109.jpg

Some quick engine pics of my almighty 1.6 SOHC 2bbl carbed 4cyl 4AC:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002110.jpg

Look Ma! No wheels!

Left the backones on so I can dump the clutch and burn them out, thus making the car fall off the stands and look like a redneck!

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002112.jpg

Ok, if you think the motor is nasty and grimey now, you shoulda seen, it took 1 and 1/4 cans of HEAVY DUTY Engine degreaser to get it this clean, I'll have another go at it with a brush tomorrow.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002111.jpg

Simple front view, still needs a good degreasing and wash job.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/98589im002113.jpg

And here they are, my 2 front wheels in primer, got done doing them 7:00pm central standard time, will be up and 7:30 tomorrow and coat them with the gloss black paint. (have mon, tues, and wed paid days off! WOOHOOO!)

So, now, you've seen my wheels, after they're dried in the gloss black, and I remove the masking and newspaper should I
A: Clearcoat the black and silver parts of the rim
B: Clearcoat just the black
C: Pearl clearcoat the black and silver
D: Pearl clearcoat the black only

Where's your Skyline?

Oh, and since you posted your real car progress, I'll make this comment: I would have also masked off the part of the wheel where the lug nuts seat. When you tighten them, the paint will chip and come off, and it could possibly take paint with it immediately around the nuts. This will 1. be visible because the shiny metal will contrast so much with the black and 2. help moisture and air and other agents of natural paint remover get under the paint and primer and eventially help all the paint chip off. You used an etching primer right? Even though you scuffed the surface, aluminum (I am assuming there) oxydizes very fast.

Nos....?

on a drift car...?

those 2 don't go together...

don't get me wrong, Nos can be useful when used properly...but the simple fact is you don't need Nos while drifting...

it would hinder you more then it would help.

just a thought...

good progress by the looks of it. :) keep it up.

Damn, more replies than I thought. Wilimo, I have some pics coming as soon as Twa brings my camera back. I know realize I probably should've masked the lug nut places, but It's not real big deal, as where they are, there's kinda like a lip thingy, that seperates the lug nut holder from the outer spoke. Yes, I used that primer. Thanks for your replies, and as far as the NOS goes, I don't know if I'm still putting it in, I might save it for something else.

Forgot toanswer the other replies:

Guy was asking 1250usd. After test driving it, I said, I'll give ya 1150, he said 1225, and I said, ok, 1200. Got the car for 1200usd, and he wrote down the price for the title exchange to 650usd.

Nice. But i think you should get some nice 24 inch chrome spinnerz LOL. Just joking, just joking.

That's funny. Actually, Twa had a set a of 4lug 19'' rims, 7, or 8 spoke, not sure who made them, with yokohamas (still had some tread) that we fitted, or tried to fit on to the car, we managed to get them on there, but the car looked like it was ready to go play in the mud with some 4wd's. If they hadn't lifted the car as much as they did (about 3''), I would've bought them from him.

The model car looks good. I can't believe this thread is up to 12 pages already. I'm really liking the interior.
1:1 rims look good. Just one thing though, if you paint where the lug nuts go, wouldn't that kind of fill in the threads a little? Are you going to have to chase the threads or is the paint not as thick as I'm thinking?

86_SR5
12-29-2003, 12:10 PM
Eugene, that's not where we're talking about. We're talking about the lil holes where the studs come through the rim to attach to the lug nuts.

Anyway, I have updates!!!! Keep in mind the car only had it's 1st coat of primer, and it's a lil rough on the roof, but I'll sand that down, and re-prime it. As you can see, under the rear bumper, it is missing primer, I know, I did the back a lil too fast, and the paint looked thick, so I figured, instead of trying to fix it with more primer, I'd be smart, let it dry and catch it then.

Also, Rim updates!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I've put the 5 mist, and 1 medium wet coat of the gloss black, and it's been dry for 2 hours now. So, I took off the paper, and masking tape, and here's what I got. Don't mind the bubles on the rim, that's from the rain, yes it's raining here, and the rims were under my carport when I painted them. Just got splashed (lukily was dry) when twa walked past it to bring my camera to me. The pic with it in masking is the Front left, and the one un-masked is Front right. Hopefully, tomorrow morning, I can put the rims on the car (letting them dry over night so they can get real hard (the paint). And turn the car around to do the rear rims.

Rims look good. Nice way to customize your car, for not a lot of money. My cousin, he sent his rims out to get powdercoated black and it cost him almost $2k.

86_SR5
12-29-2003, 02:23 PM
Jeez. 2k. Well, before I did this, I asked around at some paint shops for an estimate and the cheapest I got for gloss black centers was 79.99, plus tax. I did it (well half now) for about 15 I guess with masking tape, 3 cans of grey primer, 4 of gloss black, and some old newspapers. BTW, I sat the rim on the hub just to see how it'd look, and I swear, 100x's better than plain silver!

Thanks Tonio. Yeah, rolling rock isn't bad at all. Just still getting used to it. Thanks for everyones interest in the car, and the corolla. Hondaaccordboy21. Tomorrow I'll have pics, rigth now both of the wheels are in my spare bathroom, in which I have the window cracked and the heater on 3/4 to full so the paint can 'bake' I'll be putting the rims on the front tomorrow morning, I'll snap some pics of the car with aluminum rims in the back, and balck with silver lips in the front. Now, as you can see these are only 14.5'' rims, same size used on the D'sift trueno, in the USD1 championship.

BTW, Tonio, If I need anything else for the car, I'll let ya know. Thanks again for the tuner decals!
