This aint the place to brawl, you do that in the streets. The wing would be kinda hard to lower, considering it's superglued on their and has been dry and stiff for days on end, so tearing it off to lower it, would destroy the trunk.

Sony, your right. I'm building it for myself. BTW, I got pics... I decided the box look had to god, so I pulled out a palm sander, and put 150grit paper on it and went at the rear valence with it on an angle, still I'll do it some more tomorrow, needs a little more angle. Really brakes up the box look huh? what do you think??

Update: had to do a lil filling with putty but not alot, just had a minor crack in the rear valence, so while that dries, I'm sketching up designs and swiping ideas from the blitz R34 side skirts for mine. Index cards make perfect editing pieces, draw out what I want, cut it, fit it, if don't fit, cut a little more. Also, I'm still not happy with the black color of the car, any suggestions seeing as the car will have graphite composite hood and trunk?

Does anyone have some Nismo decals, or some blitz decals similar to those of the blitz R34, that they wouldn't mind giving/trading for??

SonyMobile
11-26-2003, 08:56 PM
You want to keep it black, cause my suggestion would be a nice rich red, or dark dark green. i think that these colors would complement the color of the graphite very well. other than that, if you keep it black maybe put some decals on the sides and stuff, that would also add to the color/style. just more of my pennies :2cents:

Looking good so far. :smokin: Here's a couple of things you might think about (or you can tell me to get lost :evillol: ). First how about extending the hole in the front bumper down into the skirt to make a nice big front mount opening? Second, level the ride height out a bit. I did a quick photoshop to show you what I mean. I also put some side skirts in to get the full picture of how it should look :iceslolan
The angled the rear skirt looks much better by the way :icon16:

Ride hieght will be level, I'm taking care of the suspension now, just stuck the wheels under there for a mock up. I'm not to sure how to tackle the side skirts, everything I cut out on index card looks dumb, any suggestions?? As far as a big mouth, no dice. It's a good idea, but If I try to cut it out with the dremel, knowing me, I'll fudge it all up. So, I'll stick with it the way it is, maybe on my next one, I'll try making a body kit with some putty depending on how this comes out. I see how you put another intake on the right side of the car, can't so that either, the one on the left, is a secondary air intake for the car's 'original' turbo system. So, I think I'll leave it there for the hell of it. So, far I'm very satisfied with the comments I've recieved, and I thank you all, this is the most work I've done in this short amount of time, and haven't fudged anything up yet. :icon16: Also, I see you removed the mid piece that seperates the windows, I'm deciding on that, but I don't know yet, seeing as the rear windows will be ''rolled up''. But thank you again to everyone for their assortment of comments, I hope to have decided on Sapphire Blue for the color, pending on how it'll go with the graphite. BTW, Anyone know how to make those lil mirrors you see on drift cars with the rod holding them up, the stock ones on the car looked liks shit stiking up as they were, so I want to make some of them. They were on the Fast And The Furious Mitsubishi Eclipse in the movie, any ideas?

Looks good, Testors Met. Saphire Blue, is a verrry nice color, just make sure you heat up the can real well, it spits a bit if its just warm, but a very nice color, and go easy on it, very light coats are the key, the paint "builds up" and runs really easily so just go easy with it. The rear valance looks much much better than it did when it was boxy, it suits the car much better with that little modification. the mirrors you are talking about, I belive Fly On The Wall made a set of those, i think you could make them by just using the stock mirror, cut it off its base, sand and cut the mirror part to be smaller, then bend a pin to a nice angle, heat up the tip, slide it through the base of the mirror (the part that connects to the body) heat the tip again, and stab it into the mirror. then once that has dried put a little dab of superglue around the two holes. :grinyes:

Camber, I'm sorry he's gone. That's all I can say, I guess I should just let alone what everyone has to say about it, if it's negative. Btw, chris, the car had a pee shooter exhaust(molded into the chassis), so, I sanded it all off including the catalitic converter, found some 12gauge sheathed wire, bent it to come from the turbo, up about the diff(molded to the chassis too) and out to a honoturtle muffler. It's not the most realistic looking mufffler, but it's nice enough to work. Thanks for the enthusiasm in my project, I should be working on the side skirt ideas soon.

Update: I decided to build the sideskirts such as RATDAT shows them in his photochop. Just lined striaghtdown off the body by the wheels with a 45 degree skirt from the body to the edge of the skirts, I added the side supports, and am in the process of cutting out the skirts from 30thousandths styrene. Thanks for the input, anyone have nismo tuner stickers and the signal broken line across the R34? If so could whoever has them scan them and post the pic, I'll save and print using the testors decal maker. Thanks.

Finished the left side skirt addition, it's not quite as angled as I wanted it but I'm happy. BTW, I'm aware that the Warning signs aren't quite to size in all the pics, I was in a hurry, but hey, it's cool. Also, Since the car will have 2 10''s in the rear dash, I had to put the Rockford Fostgate pic inside them.

Ah nice! :smokin: It's really taking shape now. It's cool to see this one progressing. What king of headlights and tail lights has your car got? there's a few different styles. Some R30 and R31's had projector headlights and some ordinary ones. I think on that Revell kit I plundered for bits the tail lights are like concave with a round bit that sticks out in the center. On the other R31 kit I have they are totally different.

I was digging through some of my half started/abandoned kits this evening and found a Tommy Kaira M30 which is like a two door version of your car. I painted it, must have been maybe 3 or 4 years ago and had some kind of reaction on it so I put it in the box and never touched it again.

Well, seeing this taking shape has inspired me to dig it out and resurect it. Tomorrow I'll start stripping the old paint. I'm not sure what style I'll be doing yet though. I've got a picture of a wicked drag car R31 which would be cool but way too much fabrication (I've got enough to with the Auster :evillol: )

Anyway, thanks for the support. This has to be the most body modifications I've done to one car without fudging it up. Except, anyone know what takes off superglue(not my concoction, but regular superglue?) RATDAT, this car has the proj. lamps, and for the tails, it's just like the pics you showed me when ya asked if that was one of the spoilers, all clear, gonna be tricky painting. I thought of drilling out the tails, and spraying the covers black, and spraying some styrene card red to go behind the holes, but it's not very realistic.

UPDATES: Well, here's what's done. Right side skirt cut, fitted and added. Roll cage had to be raised, seems fujimi thinks it's funny for the roll cage to be at the height of the rear view mirror on the windsheild :screwy: , added 4 bars of .100'' styrene rod, 1 for rear strength, 2 for strength and to mount the N20 tanks on the inside :naughty: , and the other for strength/seatbelt mount. Also, I cut the rear dash from the backseat, and made a big subbox that will hold 2 1/25th 12'' subs, and 1 or 2 4500 watt RF amps :iceslolan . Covered using grey felt, yeah I know about the white residue(damn superglue :banghead: ), so I used testors glue to hold the felt to the styrene card. Also, did the black on the door panels, I know it's off but not bad for first time freehand with a brush that has bristles the size of of nose hairs. :p That's pretty much it for now, still working on the R34 seats and takata harnesses. BTW, RATDAT, if I take those old lenses off your hands, will they fit onto my car's body where the flat ones go? Also, where are you located so I could calculate possible arrival time?
Thanks.

I dont no if your going for realism or not but, 2 12's and a massive amp in the rear deck??????? how often fo you see that? :disappoin , i have seen amps mounted in this place, but i think it would be cool if you went all out and did a fiberglass style enclosure with the amps and subs on the back seat, make the subs point on an angle towards the front seats with 2 amps mounted in the middle... just some more of my pennies :2cents: , but yea, nice work so far man, im really enjoying seeing updates on this thing.

"Havoc" and "wreak."

Anywho, this car is coming along nicely. To remove superglue, which is a cyanoacrylate adhesive, use nail polish remover, but make sure it's the kind with acetone or it won't work. Also, I'd suggest not using your concoction of several glues together or whatever it is you used. Superglue is a bonding adhesive, that is a thin layer of superglue between the parts is what holds the parts together, while plastic cement is a solvent type of glue, which dissolves the surfaces of plastic it was applied to and when it dries, the plastic has been dissolved together like metal that has been welded. That's why cemented joints are so much stronger than superglued joints and why you can't use cement on metal. Point being, mixing the two will reduce the effectiveness of both, and I imagine that's why the skirt fell off. Just use plastic cement and you will be set.

The car is looking good. I'm following its construction with some interest.

Well, thanks for the spelling lesson. The concoction I use is just for putting styrene card's together, I decided not to use it on the car as I said, too messy to apply. Thanks for the info on how to remove superglue from the body. Also, I appreciate your criticisim. I'll be updating tonight.

mixing chemicals is bad :evillol: (and fun) but when you goto your LHS or sumthin look for sumthing called Styrene weld, I have a bottle called Ambroid Pro Weld, or sumthin like that, and this stuff is magnificent, it creates a joint in the styrene that is actually the same strength as the rest of the styrene, well worth the couple bucks i paid for the little bottle, and talk about good stuff, i left the bottle open while i was using it and well,,, was i ever a space cadet after that :icon16: anyways, ya i see what you mean about the 4 door thing, it completely slipped my mind. it would look kinda stupid if you have 2 back doors for 12's eh, i c your point.

my 2 cents (dont feel offended): i dont really like the idea of subs and amps in a drift car... too much unnecessary weight imo... but if it floats your boat, go for it...

Yeah, I was thinking of that, but already painted the chassis(on paint stand and had glued and masked the sub and box before paint, so no turning back for now :banghead: .) Eventually I'll build a drift car from a JGTC, so no uneccessary weight. And, honestly, no one ever said a lil good clean bass was a bad thing. :evillol: Anyway, I got around to thinking and since having a blue flared tip is the shiznit nowaday's I carefully lowered the end of my chrome muffler into the paint to let the paint get a ring around it and dry. Now, realize it's not perfect all the way around, but I'm not Hiro, P-man, etc. So I don't have to be perfect :icon16: Anyways, I've got some Apexi decals similar to what's plasted into the pic that'll be printed on decal paper and slapped on the left side of the N1 inspired muffler. Here's pics now.

Here you can see the mesh I stuffed in using spure before paint, didn't come out perfect but, better than seeing right through.

spare mesh leftover in the tamiya R34 vspec II kit, they give you more than you need.

BTW, RATDAT, if I take those old lenses off your hands, will they fit onto my car's body where the flat ones go? Also, where are you located so I could calculate possible arrival time?
Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply..not been about for a bit. Im in the UK. If I airmail them they'll take 4-7 days.

I got a few other bits from that kit too, like a wierd sedan grille and headlights, the windows, tail lights. dash, door panels etc. You can have the lot if you want. I'm mailing out a load of stuff I sold on ebay on Monday so I can send them then if you want. Here's some pics ..this looks the same as the back of you car like by the look of it...
