1996 SL1 .... Tire skidding

HI,
I had some pretty worn out tires when I bought the car and it would skid a lot in the rain. So I bought new tires and put them on, and still a same problem. The thing is that these new tires were cheap, and some brand I've never heard about. So before I go and buy new (good brand) tires
I want to make sure that the problem is in the tires and not somewhere else for example (I'm thinking) wheel alignment or the car is too light weighted on the front.
Can somebody with 96 SL1 please let me know if you ever had a same problem or I should go and buy new tires.

i've got the same car, and yes, it slides. They are very light cars, which means less momentum, but also less traction, just be careful in the rain/snow remember if you don't have abs, pump the brakes.

my car saturn sl 96 used to skid a lot in rain/snow. So much, that it some times scared the heck out of me. What i did was a wheelalingment and bought new tires and it reduced doing that greatly.
