I am 5' 10" and weigh 220 lbs.
At the moment I am only bench pressing 385. Before my shoulder injury I was up to 410. I'm working my way back up again. I squat 675 max. I quit doing dead lifts because of a nagging old back injury. (getting older doesn't help either.)
I couldn't run a mile if my life depended on it. I hate running.

Yea I know how that is....for a while I couldnt do a lot of stuff because of a back injury and a knee injury (both from basketball)....but, like you, Im focusing mainly on those when I work out....Im working my way back up again. And just from doing that, I havent had any problems from either since basketball season started.
btw, thats a beautiful chevelle you have there.

Yea but how young? Im sorry to say but you cant really use your age as an excuse for being weak. Dont get me wrong though, there isnt anything wrong with being weak....just dont make up excuses.
btw, would that be ithaca, ny?

Cool...my uncle lives there...he teaches at a university. I cant remember the name of it though....but its not Cornell (sp?). Its the smaller one.
btw, your at a pretty decent age to start working out. Since your at a point where your growing a lot, you can build a good amount of muscle. I started working out when I was 14, I was about 5'7" and 140 lbs. Now Im almost 16, 5'8" and change, and 135 lbs....but I bench 180-ish. You dont have to work out if you dont want to....Im just saying that now for you would be a good time.

I injured my back years ago pulling up pipe from an old well. It's been fine for years but after my back workouts the last few years I am very stiff in my lower back in the morning. Doctors say it looks like it's from an old injury to one of the vertabre(sp?). I work around it now. I stopped dead lifting but continue to do rows, wide grip weighted chins along with a few other rowing type wieghted movements and that seems to work well without the stiffness.
You are still pretty young so your injuries should heal more quickly than mine do at 30 something.:)
Just make sure that when you lift you always use proper form. Those old injuries can come back to haunt you as you age. I'm finding that out first hand.
Thanks for the compliment on the Chevelle.
Good luck with the lifting a basketball.

I'm 6'2" 270 lbs.
I rep 205 on my bench press (3 sets of 10 = 30 reps per workout)
I maxed out at 275 like a year and a half ago, but I hurt my shoulder while doing it (this was when I was repping 225 on my benchpress), so I don't ever max out any more - I'd say that right now I could probably max about 260. As for the rest, I rep 100lbs on a curling barbell (again 3 sets of 10 for 30 reps) however, i haven't been able to curl lately because I hurt my left arm at around the upper forearm by the elbow - I get serious pain right there when I'm not even using a 1/4 of my strength in my left bicep.
I don't work out any other parts of my body except for my legs when I play hockey (once a week) - but that's more like aerobics then strength training.

Yes, thats the one. So you do work out..good, stick with it, you'll like the results.
And DGB, that sucks about your back, mine was just a nagging muscle injury, not a vertebra problem. Its good that you found some other exercises that work for you. And about the form, I do it the exact same way my weight lifting instructors taught me. When I was younger my stepdad tried to show me 'his' way of doing a squat....it nearly blew out my back. So now Im extra careful of doing it right. And thanks, Im going to need it....for basketball anyway. :)

I've only gotten really serious about weightlifting for about 4 months now, and the results are coming, but slowly.
I'm on a mass gaining diet now and I've put on about 8 pounds in 4.5 months, with working out somewhere around 5 times a week.
6'4", 193 lbs
Bench 185 lbs
Squat 215 lbs
Leg Press 500 lbs
Being so tall kinda sucks, it takes forever to see change and it's significantly harder to build up muscle to cover everything, but the leverage I cna get is starting to be real nice.
Just turned 18 in November.

Porsche,
The good thing about being tall also is when the muscle does pack on you look huge.
Unfortunatly for me I'm only 5'10" . Muscle packs on quick but it's really to get out of proportion if you aren't really careful.

Being shorter (not short but shorter...Im 5'8") is no picnic either. I started working out seriously about a year and a half ago....and it only took me about 2 and a half months, 3-4 times a week to get about 90% of the muscle that I have now. What Im saying is when you're shorter, you have a smaller muscle capacity than that of a taller person, such as yourself. If I start trying to build up more muscle again I can only get so far until it looks like Im overweight.

Yeah, I see your point there, if you're uber hardcore though, and have the build, you can look like a pretty hefty and cut guy, until someone like myself stops by.
I love being tall except for small cars, doors and other such things design for the average person, but I'm starting to seriously consider making weightlifting a big part of my daily life, I've fallen in love with it.
quick bit about the small guy thing, my training partner is about 5'9" 170, he looks much bigger than I do, but actually lifts less, it seems that the smaller guys get the size quicker, but the tall guys can accumulate more, as Chicago guy said.

During high school, I used to bench 200 lbs, squat 340 lbs, deadlift 365. Weighed 180 at the time. Haven't touched weights in forever, but now, in 2 minutes, I do about 75 situps and pushups, and mile and a half in about 11 minutes.

Weight: 160 lbs
bench: 230 lbs for 3 reps
curl: 50 lbs for 7 reps
barbell row: 250 lbs for 6 reps
shrug: 300 lbs for 10 reps - I could go higher, but read on
leg press: 675 lbs for 10 reps
All until I threw my back out in november doing a heavy set of shrugs. I'm taking it easy nowadays, trying to ease back into things. I've been sticking to the lighter weights and been doing cardio like a fiend lately.
