Customizing an 02 Imp

First off, I've never customized a car in my life, no real customizations anyway. I recently bought a standard v6 02 Impala. Great deal, couldn't pass it up. So now I've got the urge to start adding a few things piece by piece to make it better than the billion other silver Imps on the road. So what I'd like are some suggestions as to how to start and what to get. I'd really like to hit the engine first. Mind you, I don't have tens of thousands to spend so any small modifications or parts I could buy here and there is what I'm looking for. After that it's up in the air. Like just about everyone else I love those tail lamp apliques put the price, in my mind, is just a bit much for what you get. Any suggestions, links to custom page, anything like that would be great. I'm just looking to get pointed in the right direction since I've never gotten into my cars before. I've had a 78 Monte Carlo, 86 Camaro, 93 Lumina Z34, and now the 02 Impala. I think it's time I started playing with them.

I have no idea if they are legit, but they have a bunch of engine mods for the base Impala.

If you find anything else, please let me know... I may mod my car someday. I'm hoping to get > 200,000 miles out of it. The longer I use it, the more I can save up for my next car.
