Service Engine Light On

I have a '98 SC2 and for the past few weeks I have had the service engine light flash on and within a few hours disappear. When I took it to AutoZone for a diagnostic check (They will do this for you free of charge.) The code they registered was for a part my car didn't even have. I called the dealership with this code (P0341) and they said it had something to do with my ignition modular coils or wires. Has anyone had a similar problem with their Saturn. Is this something that I can easily fix myself. My car has less than 75,000 miles on it and I plan to keep it around for awhile.

I've been experiencing the same problem with my 98SC2.... Over the last 1K miles or so the light had occasionaly been coming on... during this last week the car really started staggering or studdering under acceleration... above 4K RPMS...the light would flash on and off...

My car has 81K miles.... I changed the spark plugs and the problems went away this afternoon :smile:

I would pull your plugs and check the gap... Gap should be .40...

On my car I still had the factory plugs installed....gap had expanded to over .60.... which was causing a lot of misfiring ....sending bad information to the onboard computer, which caused the "Service Engine" light to come on... :banghead:

I have the same problem with my 93 sc2. The engine light comes on, and it comes up with code 26 which is the quad module failure. I've had it looked at by a few mechanics to no avail. Was eventually referred down to Saturn, which the nearest one is 200 miles away to have a recalibration done on it. Haven't done it yet, thinking it may cost a lot but haven't checked it yet. If you get the prob fixed, I'd like to know how you fixed it

I have a 1998 SL2 and got a P0341 months ago. I have changed plugs, wires, ignition packs and I'm at ends wits. Any suggestions? The plugs and wires were aftermarket (AutoZone) does this matter? This happen after I ran out of gas in my car, Please advise..

you need to look into new wires plugs coils and/or coil terminals have corrosion. that code is thrown because of a misfire/high resistance. it may be a problem or it just could be from moisture. if the wires and plugs havent been replaced in a while go buy new ones.

look for quality parts though only!!!!!!!!! go to napa for belden wires, look for msd wires, or ac delco which can be bought at the dealer or sometimes can be order from advance auto. now for spark plugs buy either ac delco rapidfire or ngk v-power. both work fine and denso u-groove plugs probably work fine too but i havent tested them.

that is the main problem is wires and plugs. now some have had corrosion on the terminals for the coils(under coil) and possibly corrosion on the terminals for the wires(where wire snaps to coil). this code can be set also with all new parts, its just a typical thing to have happen.

My light keeps comming on too on my 2000 sc1. Can the code be read if the light goes out? Seems its never on when I'm near the auto zone. The car has been running ruff. Thinking a tune up would help. I have had this car a year and a half and have had more problems than my last two cars combined.:banghead: Has anyone had problems with water leaking into the car. The sunroof drains were cleaned not long after I purcahsed it which helped alot but still getting water on the drivers side floor. Also getting strange screaching sounds from the dash area:dunno:

code p0341 will say it is for a cam position sensor I believe. There is no replacement cam position sensor for these cars, as it is part of the ignition module. Check for proper gap on plugs, and resistance of plug wires. should use oem parts if possible. If all is within specs, you will probably need a new ignition module to cure the problem. All available at saturnparts.com

No you dont have the same problem as these other guys...the 93 does not have a 341
A recalibration will not fix anything...you need to have your Saturn dealer run a QDM test and see exactly what fails there are 8 differant things it could be

take to autozone, they should be able to access the history codes and find out why the light was on even if it off now.
