Saturn Quit - won't start - Help!

1992 Saturn SC - 5 spd.

Last night my son was driving home after about 1 minute on the highway. All of the sudden the SC did not respond to acceleration then sputtered and quickly died. Car would not re-start. Engine won't crank. Solenoid does not click... nothing. Interior lights work, checked battery charge... full power.

What's up??? Could it be the solenoid, ignition fuse, etc. Worst case scenario... engine seized...??

Suggestions... other than scrapping this car? I've already thought about that option.

I appreciate you help.

The first thing I would do is check all of the fuses. I know that there is one in the interior fuse box that will not allow power to reach the spark plugs.

I checked the fuses... 1st thing. They're OK. Even so... I think you mis-read my message. I can't get the engine to crank at all.

Now I'm having the starter & soelnoid re-checked. I'm thinking its an ignition system problem.

I found the problems...

Acceleration issue: The sock covering the fuel pump to protect the fueld system against impurities was clogged. The problem showed up only when the car accelerated hard and then would quit.

Cranking problem: I also had to replace the starter. The wiring was burned and the starter was questionable. That's probably why it occaisionally would not crank.

Car runs good now. Unfortunately this car was generally uncared for by the woman who owned it for 10 years. Never serviced while under warranty, seldom serviced otherwise unless there was a mechanical problem. Just put gas in the car and go... typical! Only found this out after I bought the car.

Guess she decided to buy a plastic car for the Buffalo weather knowing that she wouldn't care for it and it basically wouldn't show rust. Probably a shrewd move on her part.
