He's got 068 to keep original. A few modifications to 007 would be fine. At least a HDK and some of the more standard mods McLaren have come up with, like upraed AC etc.

why do so many people think the hd kit is so cool? i know it adds traction/downforce whatever but i don't like it. keep it original. uprated ac would be nice tho

After 10 years i think the car still looks great, especially at the front where it looks really aggresive. But i think the back is some how weaker than the rest, but as soon as the wing is added is looks alot better and it enables the whole design to gel better. Thats just my opinion, i wouldn't get a HDK for any practical reasons, purely aesthetical ones.

I've got a question for Mr Selldorff.
I'm part of a team that is simulating a few cars that will be included in a modification for the F12002 racing-simulation. One of those cars is the Mclaren F1, and there will most likely be an F1 LM to arrive slightly later down the track.
Would it be possible if we could perhaps get your advice on various aspects of the F1's performance, and to perhaps do some beta testing for us, so we can attempt to verify that what we are doing is correct and accurate to the real car.
If you are interested, please contact me via private message, and we can discuss this further.
So far, the car appears like this:
http://www.totalnfs.net/temp/f109.jpg
This is still in early development so far.
Thanks for listening, and thanks for sharing your experiences with these wonderful and amazing cars with us.

Another question for Mr. Selldorff,
Assuming the cars can be driven enough for normal wear and tear (I don't know what can happen to a Mclaren in 2500 miles) what are some of the regular changes, or maintence work that has been performed other than the battery?
my experience has been near flawless. i had a few problems with the reverse lock-out pin jamming, but nothing else. there are scheduled maintenance periods like any car, but without going to the manual i can't remember when and how often. there was one at 5,000 to 10,000 miles for a valve check/adjustment and other routine stuff. i don't think the next one is for a long while. the car is pretty bullet-proof (amazing for a supercar).

What does your wife say about spending all this money on cars ? :) Have you ever considered dragging those babies ?(Don't Answer that) Living in South Africa, we used to get E30 325iS's and 333i no E30 M3's since our petrol grade was'nt that great back than. And still isn't at 95 the best you can get, unless you go and buy 102 especially. That brings me to another question, Do you run your babies on 102 all the time ? I would'nt like to imagine what this would be like, but have you ever considered putting a Twin-Turbo in one of those babies?(Of course you can't because of emissions. But if you brought a nice house in South Africa, and brought one over here, you would have no problems with emissions or speeding...since our traffic cops are easily bribed with about $5 U.S.; Does'nt help with camera's though. I suppose you could always keep a Jack hammer in the car:)
Really nice to have such a passionate owner spend his time posting on the Internet.Oh and if I was to die, I would hope it to be in an F1:) or any car for that matter. As long as I am driving.
Ciao.
-i run the cars on 94 octane.

Mr Selldorff, have you thought anymore about the upgrade of 007? Would you be interested in the LM engine or would one be enough? It would be up to 691 HP in a car that is more practical than the LM. I'd certainly chose it over an interior refit. And a nice high downforce kit to go with it. Now that sounds nice. Of course you could just get a GTR instead :naughty:
I haven't driven the LM enough to become familiar with the full characteristics of the engine. it is much much louder and nastier sounding :). that being said, i'm not sure why anyone wouldn't want more power and better sound.
imo, there is a huge difference in styling as a result of adding the HFK. for driving around town, eg. taking my wife to a fancy party, the HDK is a bit too much "boy-racer". the normal F1 (in black or silver) is perfect, even a little stealthy. I would only get the HDK if I was planning on doing a lot of track time or driving on the limit (not a good idea on public roads).

Dear Mr Frank Selldorf,
I know this has been said before many times, but thank you very much for you kindness and generosity in answering questions about your magnificent cars.
I was lucky enough to have a ride in a Mclaren F1 GTR no.10 (I think) at Goodwood and that car was absolutely stunning to say the least!
Is it true that your 068 car is here in britain? If so are you planning on coming over here to drive it?
The reason I ask is that we have a very good airfield that we use regularly called bruntingthorpe which has a 2.3 mile straight...and one can book it for the day....
We currently own a RUF R turbo, not quite in the same league as a Mclaren but pretty close (i like to think anyway ;) )
and the mere thought of these two cars together at bruntingthorpe actually makes me giddy.
If you want to come over to England and drive 068. I would be more than honoured to prepare a day at Bruntingthorpe where we could compare and drive the two cars, in a safe, restriction free environment.
Here is my story of our delivery of the RUF:

and this was us doing 0-190mph at bruntingthorpe:

Mr. Selldorff, its been said many times here, but thank you once again for sharing your experiences with us all. I actually introduced a friend of mine to the splendor that is the McLaren F1 tonight, courtesy of the internet, and he is totally smitten with the car. The extent of his car knowledge is gas on the right, brake on the left, but he immediately recognized the F1 as a "god among cars" (his exact words).
As for my questions:
1) Have you ever had to teach someone a lesson on the street? Some ricer that just wouldn't go away, or even an exotic looking for a good challenge (or whupping, in this case :iceslolan )? Any close races, or even loses? Earlier you said you like to keep it tame, but with a car like that must be very tempting to open up once in a while.
2) Any trouble/hassle from law enforcement due to the car? Busted at all? Or do they look up and say "There goes Frank again."?
3) And I too am curious about the road clearance, and do you have trouble with speed bumps, driveways, etc?
Thanks again for this opportunity, not too many chances like this come up often.

First off I would like to say that this is my first post on this forum ever.
I have been reading here for a while now, but I really felt the need to comment here especially.
It is very nice to see such an enthusiast be so generous to a community of fans. Thank you very much for being a true gentleman.
This topic is one that continues to hold my attention as I have lusted over this car for almost its entire existence, seeing that at the time, I was below the driving age and hadn't paid much attention. Things do indeed change when you get your first set of keys  It is again very nice of you to participate in this forum.
Now that I have that out of the way, I second the question of ground clearance. Up here in Michigan I doubt I would ever be able to own one (money not withstanding) due to potholes and a few parking lot entrances I know of

For the most part, the car's clearance is fine. Some speed bumps are higher than others, but except for extreme examples, I can get over them without scraping by slowing down to a full stop. I had McLaren add some aluminum blocks under the nose to help prevent damage, they work well. They touch occaissionally, but protect the car successfully.

For you E30 M3 enthusiasts...I just talked to Doug Mahar of Turner after I posted and told him that a few people on here were asking about the E30 M3 project car and asked when the info will be up. WELL GOOD NEWS...he said it will be up in about an hour or so, so definately check it out. It was pretty ironic that I asked when I did considering that he said he just got word that it was going to be up 5 mins before I asked. Definately check it out and check out Franks 007 too if you havent already. Turner Motorsport Project Cars (E30 M3, Will Turner's heavily modded E46 M3, Franks 007, and Turner Mini-sport) (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/projectcars.shtml)
PS Im an E30 M3 owner myself so im pretty pumped

That is a customer car but there are always a few E30 M3s up there at any given time. Turner is pretty well known for their E30 work. They have a few racecars and Franks new racer may be up there too. Will has a J-Stock car too. I have never been to the actual shop even though I worked for the race team...I was supposed to btwn Mosport and Limerock but we had work to do on the cars so i had to go straight to LRP.

Mr. Selldorff,
Just a small question. Have you considered to hire a professional photographer, or perhaps "let" pro photographers take pictures of your cars?
To everyone else BTW, do you know where I can find a wall poster of a McLaren F1 roadcar in motion. In my opinion, the countryside and nature fits best with photos of exotics in motion. I've seen the Ron Kimball pictures of the LM already, I was wondering if they have roadcar shots.
Thanks.

Bah, i thought i was special because i own a 360 Spyder but i guess i have been beet lol, oh well thanks for comin, man i wish people would ask pics of my car lol, i dont give rides usually but i love it when people ask me questions and look inside, I`m dont usually feel it`s neccisary to buy a million dollor car... but i guess if you really like to drive it`s ok... i dont think i would buy one because there impractical and they only seat one from what i ahve heard.. and if i put a SuperCharger on my Suzuki Hyabusa Motorcycle, it will go as fast as an F1 and it only got 10grand, man you should have jsut got a motorcycle there much cheeper and more practical

The F1 could crush a hayabusa. The hayabusa only tops out at 194 mph, the mclaren does 240.
Oh, and the F1 has three seats - it seats more than your 360

thanks for the suggestion. since i never planned on selling them, i never really put much thought into taking photos. i think next spring i'll try to get some pics of all 3 of my cars together. that'd be pretty cool i think.
