there should be an adjuster gear that you can move to release tension on the belt to spin it off.

But in order to get there i have to remove the crank pulley so that i can get to the shield or what ever that thing is called. Is there any way to lock it up?? a special tool or something?

use a punch, or a large screw-driver to shove through a hole on the pulley, unless you have a solid one, and that will stop its rotation. If you have an impact wrench, you normally dont need to block it like this. (I LOVE my impact, and hate thinking about all the manual labor i'd be doing without it).

Yeah life is much eaiser with the trusty ol impact. you could drill a hole in the pulley if it is solid and use the screwdriver idea. Good luck

Wow, that sucks.. If you've stopped the spinning, and it just wont come loose, try spraying it with penetrating oil (WD-40 would work), let that soak in, try again. If that doesn't work, try using a large breaker-bar and maybe a pipe or something to get more torque than the impact can get.
And I bet when you get that out some dumbass used lock-tight on the threads, which is stupid because the engine's turning tightens the bolt down and keeps it torqued

yea, like these other guys my 600ft/lb impact gun got it off quick.
but without removing the tranny to get to the other side, i cant think of a simple way you can do this.

Well, you can't heat it, seeing as it would be useless. You're not going to get more torque than that unless you use a 3/4" impact. I'd be seriously considering making it someone else's problem by taking it somewhere.
I had to get out the 3/4" impact on one of those bolts, and the 1700 lb-ft of torque didn't do much, until the head of the bolt snapped clean off. That caused alot more work than I ever want to do for a timing belt again.....
