Need more HP

Ok.... this is kinda blunt... but what the HELL can I do to make my 85 GTS faster? I just now realized how slow it picks up on the way home from my work.... My uncle works there to, and he has a 94 Accord, the engine is stock, but we both turned a corner and he was behind me... I dont think he downshifted at all, but man, he pulled next to me and hit the gas, and fuckin LAUNCHED... compared to my car that is.... When I got home, after retrieving my testicles from the glove box... I started thinkin about what I could do to this piece.... Any help would be awesome...

well first start of with intake and exhuast. you so get 20-30 more hp from that get headers when you get your exhuast. then get a new intake manifold. bigger injectors. then go work on internals then put super charger and then it would be fast maby

When someone asks, "How do I go faster?". Someone else usually responds with, "How much do you want to spend?". I appologize for being that person but, How much do you want to spend? Give us your budget and we can plot a course of action.

Well, I can start with about $1,000.. of course more cash is going to be put into it once I make it. Just a little help and/or what I can do to start it off

$1000 is enough for serious performance. Get a new engine or rebuild your current engine so that it has been bored and stroked to a larger displacement. Simply getting more displacement will make a huge difference in performance.

i agree, the best start would be to have your motor rebuilt, and add a stroker kit with decent internals. You'll have more torque and a great platform should you decide to add boost later.

Wow...$1000 to work with...you can really do some stuff with that man. Rebuild the engine and while you rebuild it redo the intake and exhaust systems. As for that 20-30hp from just intake and exhaust? I dont think so. Freeing up the exhaust will add maybe 5-7HP at max...if you were able to make that large a gain in HP just from those two things then something was terribly wrong with your engine to begin with...but definatly rebuild...while you are rebuilding you need to decide if you want to turbocharge or not. If you dont want to then you can go a high compression route and mill the heads down a few hundredths of a centimeter and gain some horsepower and torque that way.

Well, I would suggest rebuilding the engine but since other people have already suggested that, let me take a moment to piss them all off.
Go to a junkyard and find a gts, alltrac, or supra turbo and grab the ct26 turbocharger off it (And intercooler if applicable). Sadly I don't know the 85's engine bay but if it's set up anything like the 5th gen, it'll just take hooking into the oil and coolant lines, coming up with an elementary custom intake pipe and some sort of makeshift downpipe (Or other addition to extend the exhaust to where the exhaust gas exits the turbo)
Oh, the exhaust manifold heatshield will probably need to be modified, too.
Oh2, if you get the intercooler it might take a little more piping, but you can just get some big pcv or some other rubber tubing and hose clamps
But voila, probably 30+hp right there, and probably less than 250 bucks of work!
Now let me hide while people grill me for the suggestion :)
Honestly, the engine rebuild is a better plan. But I'd suggest the turbocharger addition to the rebuilt engine anyway :)

hey guys thanks soooo much... About how much displacement am I looking for? its already a 2.4.... also where abouts can I get this done without costing me an arm and a leg?

I believe that Toyota Racing Development ( TRD ) sells a book called the "Celica Bible". Spending $50 on research materials could save you thousands of dollars and weeks of time in the long run.
You will need the book in order to find the exact specifications for your engine (i.e. bore, stroke, crankshaft throw, rod length, compression ratio ). After that you can decide on ordering new internals with different specs in order to change the powerband.
Don't turbo your current engine because the boost will just be forced into the oil pan if you have old piston rings.
