man i dont even have time to read this thread to get to a point where i could contribute. whatever, thje import domestic debate will go on forever into eternity, no one's really gonna win. i hate threads like this theyre so pointless. its not even benchracing anymore. its like a bad editorial page in a bad paper

Considering F1 cars make around 900bhp, and weigh about 600 kg (about 1320 lbs) including the driver, a 9 second 1/4 mile is not all that fast. I would have expected 8's or even 7's. These cars are extremely light.

you are right an F1 doesn't make 90ft-lbs peak torque it's more like double that at around 19 k... apparently it was not possible for you to infer the point of the arguement, allow me to enlighten you.. engines don't need to make a lot of torque for a car to be fast.. ..furthermore.. car weight, balance, and area under the torque curve is more important than just having 500 ft-lbs at 2000 rpm. The point of that particular statement was to illustrate that a car with a 3.0 liter engine can be faster than one with a 8 liter engine

What is your goal with your post? Yes, a race car with a 3 liter engine can be faster than a race car with an 8 liter engine. Competition improves the breed and the consumer always benefits from this competition. Companies need to develop advances in order to remain competitive and successful. You argue that Honda is a holy company that should be revered and beatified. But at the end the day they are a business that has to report their balance sheet to their stock holders. All companies have to innovate, but why do you have such an emotional attachment to Honda? Why not Porsche, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Saab, Volvo, BMW, or Ford for that matter?

I just wanna say the reason the subaru wrx sti will "spit out" any gt owner is because of the price, the $30,000 price. The reason there are a "million mustangs around" is because most people (including me) dont have the money to dish out into a import to make it fast, i was bought a stock mustang and stock, it is quick. I also dont have the $30,000 to go out and buy a new Lancer Evo or WRX, so therefore, i buy the cheapest...yet fastest thing i can....a mustang.

I have been in mustang gts then imports and all that and you dont have anythign that special. it s sad how a v8 can be beaten by a lil 4 banger that is stock seen a stcok 5.0 gt 5 speed get beaten by a eagle talon tsi! or howabout we go to the probe that is a four banger too that will beat your mustang 1st gen gt! I can pick that up alot cheaper then your stangs with the money you spend in your car I can buy it build it and run circles around you!

If I'm not mistaken, the Eagle Talon TSI and Ford Probe have turbocharged engines. Now, if one were to turbocharge a 302, well...Look-out! Incidentally, between 1984 and 1986 (I think) the Mustang SVO had a turbocharged 4 cylinder powerplant built by Ford. Mid '85 model had about 210 horsies, so don't think Ford engineers can't build a whopping 4-popper, if they decide to.

You are right they do both have turbos! but when you start comparing 2.02.2 and all them with 302s, 305s well the turbo dosnt really count cause well you have more horse by your engine and stock boost on them are not that high so it dosnt add enough horse to really compare but yet for te price I pay for all the vehicles my friends 500 dollar 1991 probe gt will beat a mustang gt 5.o and that coasts a little bit more we can say. and that was the point that was trying to be made earlyer with the evo and sti against a stang is the price differince! When it comes to price and speed them cars got everything on your stang owners and camaro owners. and you are rated in higher horse but will will still beat ya. By the way what dose your stang top out at casue a talon esi I have dose 150 no turbo 2.0

ok, on some dyno slips, u see that hp is on the rise when torque is decling, but damn.
but lets say that this engine can some how reve to 32k and lets say that its torque is 85
85*32000/5252=517.9 ~520 hp

32k??? :eek7: i dont thing therrs a car engine that revs dat high... ive got some r/c cars therr engines rev to 36k n' 48k, but the mr2 red lines at what???? 7,8 grand??? plus therr are soo many restrictions of getting it to rev dat high... like flotin valves... now if we were talkin two stroke, it would need a supercharger to keep air pumpin into the cylinders (too much displacment for the rpm), and no exhaust system to keep down back pressuer. n' what good is ponnies when therrs no torque?sorry if i burst your bubble, but what you stated was useless info cuz is unrealistic... though it would be cool, keep to realistic figures.

That's more than twice the HP, close to twice the Torque.

Let's face it though; you can make almost any engine powerful, Ford engines included (especially...). I mean, some people race riding lawn mowers, no?

all this is like me saying this I have a 454 in my chevell (DONT REALLY HAVE A CHEVELL) and I am gonna say that I can beat your 5.0 it isnt really a conparasent. so of sourse you will say well if I had a supercharger then I would have the power I knwo most stang owners would say that so that is what we are saying if we have equal power we can beat ya. but your 5.0 stang is cheaper then my chevell so it is better in your minds

Just to clear shit up.... Lincoln is the most reliable car on the market as of 2003 and Gm is the 1# car maker followed by Ford.

I used to be an all muscle car guy. But I started to excpet imports. I mean... How can you notrespect the NSX? 276 hp form a V6 and it tops out close too 190 mph. Or even better the M3, 333hp! from a 6 banger! The only imports i hate now are civics with just muffler.. they think there the fastest car out there. There are also guys who go out by a 5.0 or newer gt, slap on exhaust and think they own the road.

I have friends with 5.0's and i have friends with hondas. My friend has a prelude and he spent ALOT of money on it. All Jun internals and he can still barley keep up with my friends mostly stock 5.0. So if you have the money.. buy an import if you want to be a 1/4 machine buy a muslce car..


The way I see it is Imports and domestics are just 2 brothers that can't get along

twyzz- u act as if 270 hp from a v6 is alot of power. even a v6 camaro makes 200 hp, and im pretty this engine could clear 300 n/a.

faststang- u read my example to hard. notice how i said 'lets say the engine could reve up to 32k.' i was making a point. 570 hp sounds like a lot, but even if such a motor exist, thn i highly doubt the tranny would be able to handle such rpms.
