EX vs Si Civic

What are the capabilities of the EX engine? I know it has like 127 hp but I don't know the engine name and how good of an engine it is. Now I know the Si (B16A) engine is good deal bit better but how much. I'm trying to get another Si on the account of me wrecking and mauling my Si past repair but all of them that are being sold around here have CAI, header, exhaust, in other words drove hard already. Another thing, the accord I forget which model I was told had 200 hp would the accord be a better/quicker car to start with?
Thanks

Depending on which year Ex it is, 92-95=D16Z6 and 96-00?=D16Y8. I think that the 127hp is rated at the crank also. Personally, I think that you would have more fun/potential with a turbo kit on the Ex motor than with just a Si motor (B16) with bolt-ons. Lastly, the 200hp motor I think that you are referring to is a Prelude motor from the 92+ VTEC ludes. It would be a nice upgrade for your Ex, and I'd do that before a Si motor swap.

I've never really looked into turbos...but if I were to put one on a 2000 Civic EX how much owuld my HP raise?

Its dependent on how much boost you would run. JG/Edlebrock just came out with a kit for the SOHC motors. It is expensive, but it comes with absolutely everything that you would need. Look it up. Also, if you want an adventure, you could piece together a turbo kit using an STD civic exhaust manifold. Read through this site...homemadeturbo.com (http://www.homemadeturbo.com/). It has really good info.

Yea I would go turbo as well b/c the weight of the vehicle would be more balanced with the smaller D16 then with a B series or even a H series. Also when you kill GSR'S and civic SI'S etc you can tell them you still hace a D16 :iceslolan

Swapping a K series motor into his year model civic would be alot of trouble and would cost way too much money. That is the worst idea I have ever heard! :nono:

I would suggest that nobody take any advice from this guy. He obveously does not know that the K series motors are in the car completely backwards from the b series and that the tranny is on the drivers side rather than on the pass side of the car.

I would agree with you cost wise but I was argueing the same point that you are arguing now in another thread and found out that with just some motor mounts the k-series engine will bolt up into a 92-95 chassis. It looks like its in their backwards. There are even people working on making production motor mounts for the swap. I am sure there is still alot of custom fabrication like axles and little stuff though. Here is the thread if you want to check it out.

That is quite interesting. That will make a nice kit when they get it all worked out:thumbsup: Wish I had the time and money to do stuff like that :icon16:

to put it in perspective, a single cam turbo'd del sol ran a 14.4 at the track running only 6 psi.

he's had his car dyno'd at 175+ to the wheels, an he pulled me HARD in 3rd gear.

single cam turbos are nice, but IMO, dual cam motors jus have SO much more potential.

if u really want a cheap turbo set-up, swap a b18b1, an turbo that.

then ur running low 13's, instead of 14's.
