if i had access to a cnc machine i would design all my body kits in 3d cad and have them machined which would get all the detail i would want but at the moment i will just have to use my hands and a scalpel.
Please dont reply to my posts if you have crap like that to say, i mean, thats why the syndicate left, he only ever had shit to say about anything. this is a supportive group. i dont ever recall slagging off your work and believe that i should keep destructive comments to myself.
in what ways would you contructively improve this then? without childish comments such as bin it?

Chris, I support you man. I like your FD style, I look at it, and I got a feeling of GT style. Keep it up, man!

86_sr5, the rims is Fabulous Profound 19" from aoshima, in case you not know. :D

there are gonna be some more vents cut into the body work, was gonna go for a trd supra widebody style vent in the front wing, the side skirts are going to be curved inwards in the middle to stop it feeling sooo wide.
lots more vents to come.
may re make my exhaust box to the dims i origionaly wanted, a bit thinner, cant take it too high without cutting through the spare wheel well, plus i dont want it too high in the air.

i much more apreciate constructive critisism as it how we all get better by taking on each others ideas and skills. :evillol:

10-26-2003, 03:05 PM

My cousin did a sick paint job (well i did he thought it up) on his superstallion mustang. it was wicked after 5 coats of clear, tamiya rubbin compund, and wax. The ingreidients: Lots of thinner, flat black base, mix boyds plum crazy 95:5 with thinner apply 1 medium coat; mix boyds true blue pearl 85:15 with thinner, apply 1 medium coat; mix metallic orange 75:25with thinner, apply lightly; then mix transparent red with pearl clearcoat with thinner 45:55 with thinner, apply at least one coat and then add more as needed. keep in mind this took 3 weeks for me to get the consistancies just right and i applied them on numerous test subjects before putitng it on the SuperStallion. I'll call him up and see if he can bring it down to the next model show and ill take some pics, its very very wicked. Btw the plum crazy goes before true blue pearl srry about that. Keep in mind in my formulas 85:15 85-->paint; :15-->thinner.

chrismcgee
10-27-2003, 01:28 PM
sounds realy cool. dont think we have boyds paint here in the uk.
but im sure i can find something similar

86_SR5
10-27-2003, 01:30 PM
Don't neccessarily have to be boyds, but that's what I used.

chrismcgee
10-27-2003, 01:33 PM
gonna have a look for some decent pearls etc, jimbob used to hook me up with that stuff but i cant seem to get hold of him anymore?

86_SR5
10-27-2003, 01:34 PM
Something else, he's currently working at a body&paint shop now, and he brought the car one day after it was all done, and recently e-mailed and said the paint job I did,(costed him $50 paints thinners, labor) Seems to be that the paint I did for $50 would cost almost $8k US, or more, becuase of the quality of the paint and how it came out.

86_SR5
10-27-2003, 01:36 PM
And as I said and I'll say over and over it takes time and patience to do what I did, I guess it came out so good because I was airbrushin and not sprayin from the can, and I would suggest doing 3 test subjects to make sure its all correct.

10-27-2003, 01:41 PM
i have just started a new thread about my new sti project, its gonna have a very wild airbrushed paint job!
have used my airbrush quite a bit in recent projects. i love the controll it gives and that you can keep building up layers of paint very thinly

12-21-2003, 06:11 PM
Man I saw your name at the end of this thread and I was hoping there was some progress. I'm interested in how this turns. Have you given any thought to what your going to do with the space behind the seats and ahead of the trunk? And I'd say dark blue since black is a pain in the butt to get a good shine on black (but you're a paint master so...)

Wilmo's doin what, kt100? Run that past me again, I think I missed something....

12-21-2003, 09:58 PM
Amazingly I missed this thread up until now :screwy: This has some great work going into it ..very unique too. Chris, if i have lots of imperfections in putty like that I mix some Humbrol putty with Ruskins cellulose thinners and brush it on. It behaves much like high build primer filler on a real car and is really easy to sand down with very fine paper. I usually wet sand it. It doesn't seem to shrink much as it sets and it bonds really well.

Yah some peoples tastes are different. Not my bag of tea, But it reminds me of the Pink REAmeriya FD and BN Sports FD. Dont put nos in it, I think everyone thinks just becuase they are building a tuner import car that they need to put nos. Put a front mount intercooler. Get some guage decals (perfect to scrap from a viper model) and put them above the glove box on the dash. Dont put a tach, that kills it.

Keep up the good work, you model for yourself! Dang, your vert rx-7 is

better than mine!!!! How did you get those nive side air inlets and such?

My rx-7 doesn't have door panels and stoopid squadron putty... never use

that "simple green."

chrismcgee
04-02-2004, 05:36 AM

tonioseven
04-02-2004, 08:29 AM
Do side windows rolled partially down!:sunglasse

jgmodelcars
04-02-2004, 09:21 AM
maybe the kit supplied rx7 badges before you clear, m2c, other than that it looks good to go!

chrismcgee
04-03-2004, 05:36 PM
now that is a good idea to clear coat the decals in place, might have a look in my spare deacal box to see if there is anything worth using as well.
cant wait to get a few mins to myself to work on it a little more.

on another note i finished the chassis for my Aristo, so its now sitting low on the 20" rims waiting for the interior to be painted

chrismcgee
04-08-2004, 01:22 PM
well here is a little more progress, carbon on the hood?? cant decide if it goes or not. will probablt give it a coat of smoke tho.
a pinstripe has been added to the side from the equip wheels decal set.

soon to clear coat the lot

jgmodelcars
04-08-2004, 04:47 PM
personally im not feeling the carbon, looking good though, i like the window rolled up look.

chrismcgee
04-08-2004, 09:29 PM
i think that the carbon looks pretty shit too. might just paint it matt black, or should i go body coloured?

turbo type-r
04-08-2004, 09:40 PM
body colored

chrismcgee
04-09-2004, 08:12 AM
well the day is reasonably dry today so i will get to spraying it now i think. then i can get to clearcoating the body and polishing it too a shine

04-09-2004, 01:17 PM
Nice work dude!!! I love those side strips, and the details of the EQUIP!

Top work!

supermod04
04-09-2004, 06:24 PM
aww not bad, your front needs sanding, the little vents, should spent more time on body work

jswillmon
04-09-2004, 06:36 PM
looks great, you have one hell of an imagination.
IMO carbon hoods do not look good on metalic paints such as these, i say go with the body color.
Keep up the good work and don't let the inexperienced sway your motivation!

NetexxGT
04-09-2004, 09:43 PM
I say go with a d/v hood
