I got a new car; ver 2.0
Jay!

2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Coupe. 13,210 miles when I took possession. Perfect condition. All stock.
The reason I didn't get a WRX is because they weren't available in the U.S. until 2002.
More pics when I'm back at a decent computer.

Nice Ride! But why the hell does it have a bonnet scoop with no top mount IC underneath? Admittedly I've only seen the Aussie spec WRX in that model with bonnet scoop - the only other engine option here was 2.0 NA. Anyone explain0r?

Because the pre-WRX USDM 2.5RS came with a WRX hood anyway, I think they did it to differentiate it from the L model.
I have a '98 2.5RS in red but otherwise like Jay's and under the hood scoop is a blanking piece.
FYI, the rally cars run a front mount but still retain the hood scoop, it is blanked off underneath too.
Glad to see you got the beastie Jay, it's as nice as you described :smokin:
Look after this one and enjoy!! :evillol:

Congrats Jay, I hope that the Subie treats you well as the Si did (right up until the point where it got jacked). You picked a winner, the car is a real beaut (and IMO, I don't understand why Subaru ever moved away from that front end for the "bug-eyed" front end on the first USDM WRX). Enjoy and take care :)

I can't remember becuase It's been a while since I've worked on them - but do they have the accursed double over head cam engine? If so, you're for a real treat when attempting to replace sparkplugs.
And it's got a sunroof, hoo-ray!

And it's got a sunroof, hoo-ray!Indeed it is a DOHC valvatrain... worst I ever heard of was the first gen. Camry V6. To replace the two last two spark plugs (not sure which end of the engine they reside at), I heard that you had to remove the intake manifold!! What Toyota was thinking when they initiated that design for production, I'll never understand.

You make it sound like a nightmare, it's not that difficult at all to replace the plugs.
Sunroof was standard on the 2.5RS coupe IIRC.

To me, any car which requires you to get under it to change the sparkplugs, is a difficult car to change sparkplugs on. I liked Subarus better when they used pushrods (although when they came into the shop, I'd always joke: "Hmmmm, I think I see the problem here, there's a spare tire jammed in the engine!")

Thanks guys. Seems weird to have that blanking piece. A lot of Aussie WRX tuners whackon a front mount and use the scoop as a cold air feed etc. :)

I remember thinking that too, the first time I saw an earlier model Subaru with the spare located in the engine bay.

It's easier from beneath, unless you can stand the frustration of having to remove the windshield washer fluid resevoir and the air cleaner just to make getting at the sparkplugs easier. Besides, it's not a car - it's a Yugo.

I thought I had the SOHC heads, no? I thought they switched all the USDM EJ25s to SOHC after 1998... Not true? I guess I could get in there and count the gears... :p
Anywho... The after-weekend report: Torque is fun; but I have to remember not to rev to a billion anymore. I'm VERY happy with the car, and I hope to hang on to it for a while.... ;)
I'll keep y'all posted if I start changing things on it, but I really kinda want to enjoy it in its current 'virginal' state for a while... :evillol:

Yep. When you have it up on the rack it's actually pretty easy, because you don't have to bother with moving the air-cleaner box, etc. out of the the way, but it's still a huge pain in the ass - getting the new ones in is even harder to do.
