I just bought this Tamiya Efini RX7, I plan on making it a street drifter, but not a formula drifter. I'm modifying the front to make it look like that of the Apex RX7. With the foglight/ turnsignal combination as well. I also made a custom exhaust with angled tip, it looks real good fitted. Does anyone else have a finished RX7 they can show me pics of?

I use just some generic putt I can't remember the name irght now but it comes in an orange and white tube. It works very well and get very hard, and very smooth when sanded.

great pics there, where do you get some decent hi res images of the japaneese touring car series?

jgmodelcars

i drew up some sketches of my basic ideas on some paper during some of my college classes today. so here they are, basically: no spoiler/wing, nice body kit on front, no work to sides or back, better turnsignal / fog light combination and tail lights, nice exhaust, carbon fiber mirrors and hood and i duno what i'm doin for the interior yet probably 2 tone with some nice sparco torinos or pistas

did some more work this weekend, its hard to work on the model when i live at school, luckily i go home every weekend. The pics include the almost finished front air dam, final smoothing is all it needs, the next pic shows the turn signal replacement with a turn signal/ fog light combination, the finished exhaust is the next pic, then the removed back seat and the roll bar! what do you think?

Keep up the good work and roll on your progress.

got some new pics! primed the body and finished removing the back seats as well as adding the roll bar and beginning the dash and rest of interior. I've also got pics of the mirrors im gonna use as well as optional parts that i may or may not add: nitrous and spoiler probably wont add either but figured i'd show em.

wow looks wicked!

Hahah i love how you said you drew your sketchs in class.......sounds too much like me lol.

If its going to be a drifter pls dont put a nitros bottle in....it will spoil the whole drift theme you are going with.

Keep up the great work though! :iceslolan :sly:

wow thats looking sooo good. i would never have thought of removing the rear seats to add a roll cage. am very interested on how you added that lip, as the body of the chassis rests on the underside of the lip doesnt it. or is this just the engined version?

what colour is it going to be dude. keep it up my good man!

well originally the body rested on the chassis with the stock black lip attached to the chassis, so very carefully i cut it off with a piece of string (yes string if anyone wants to know how ask me:naughty:). i then glued the detached lip to the body, added putty, sanded and voila:lol2:! i'm gonna paint it candy apple green with gold advans and red sparco seats.

Friggen amazing! Love the front bumper. IMO, and in most street drifter's opinion, nitrous doesn't belong in a drift car. But hey its your model, so feel free to express yourself however you want.

Is the putty squadron white putty? You said it was in an orange in white tube. I try to use that stuff but it never sticks to the model nor can I get it to shape correctly, also mine takes like 2 days to dry. If you have squadron, what tips might you have?

BTW, lookin' great.

yeah now that you mention it i think it is squadron :iceslolan! well make sure your plastic is clean and free of dust, put it on using an old xacto blade in one swoop DO NOT try to go back and fix it, you can add to it, but don't fix:grinno:! thats i've found is the best way, and for drying problems add a little at a time and sand and then add more, i usually let it sit for at least a day before touching just like with any other putty Good Luck hope this helps!

by the way every DONT WORRY I'm NOT adding the nitrous or wing, i just wanted to show you guys, and didn't want to start a new forum however i am adding the racing mirrors :naughty:!

jgmodelcars
10-15-2003, 12:24 PM
i don't want a spoiler on this one, don't know why just feel it doesn't need one, anyway here are some more pics

this is the chassis painted to match the body, i still have to paint the whee wells and engine/transmission the approriate colors but you see it here with the exhaust (don't worry i plan on cleaning everything up too!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/img/778rx7p22.jpg

this next pictures is of the interior it will look roughly like this but with red sparcos rather than the stock seats you see here
http://files.automotiveforums.com/img/521rx7p23.jpg

finally here is another of the body with the stock wheels, im not using these but this is just so you get an idea!

Love the dash! Esp. the electronic controller doo-hicky (I can tell exactly which one its supposed to be, but its name escapes me). Your paint is great, too, and I really like the no-spoiler look. The RX-7 has such elegant, sexy lines, I don't know why Mazda put those goofy things on. I kinda think the muffler is too long, but otherwise it looks trick. Your seat might need another coat of paint, and if the seats aren't glued in, what about extending a hoop of the roll bar forward? You could do it about knee-level like alot of street-driven racers doo. Just some suggestions, you asked for praise and criticism.... What else do you have in store for the car? Ie, what kind of rims, something suitably hardcore, I hope. And any thoughts on sponsor decals? Just curious, I'm really feelin' this thing, the color is perfect for the drift look you are chasing! Keep it up, and lookin forward to seein it done!

Those aren't the seats i will use in the end, im looking for some sparcos right now, as for wheels im thinking veilside marriots with a slightly deeper dish in the back than in the front!:iceslolan I don't think i'm gonna put on any sponsor decals, except for a think barely noticeable "tuned by JG works" one on the side or back, do you think i should put some on? if so who?:uhoh: O and the electronic controller is supe easy to make does anyone think i should show how in a tutorial??

didn't get too much done this weekend but i did decide to paint the hood with a lime gold overcoat (3 layers) so that it refects limish gold and at angles looks reddish. I sanded and compounded the body (not the hood yet) and made some decals. I added the first part of the JG Works decal, and will put on the hood piece once i can sand and compound it. I put on the rx7 mazda badges as well. i also have all these other decals i made does anyone think i should put them on? if so wehere? OOOO and look at the wheels i have ordered some veilside 5 spoke marriots for it but look at what i've done with the rx7 wheels do you think i should use these??:thinkerg:
so what do you guys think??????:feedback:

alright what the hell why aren't my imgs working, i'm copying and pasting the exact script that the gallery is telling me to and nothing is working any help??

I love how you subtely made the lip on the rear wheels. When I first saw that you were using the stock rims I was a little sceptical, but now they look awesome!

BTW: what effect were you going for with the different color hood?

egon_dude
10-21-2003, 07:26 AM
very nice build- but theres something not quite right with the front tyres- ive noticed it in the tamiya catalog as well- they seem to be too big for the wheel arches, should be more low profile. Dont know it you can get some lower profile ones from another kit or something. Rest of the build is very nice, love the work you did on the front lip.
Nice one! :evillol:

thanks for the complements to answer some questions:

i'm probably not going to use these wheels as i ordered some veilside marriots from hlj, i was just messing around with these

I painted only the hood with the lime gold pearl cuz i wanted to go for something different, kinda like the celsior drift car that is red with maroon doors, i haven't put the decal on it yet cuz i still hafta sand and compound then clear coat everything!!

O yeah the side mirrors will be the color of the hood as well, they are scratchbuilt race style mirrors you'll see:naughty:.

THANKS AGAIN!!!:iceslolan:smile:

I think it looks really good, but you should have added to the sideskirts and the rear bumber to make them as low as the front, because it looks a little awkward. Either way, nice job!

I like it a lot. The hood kinda threw me at first, but it's growing on me and once you rub it out I bet it'll look hot. I like your rims, too, when I built my black RX-7, I was going to put some gold Work Emotions on, but they looked funny. If I had known how to make deep rims like that, I would have, RX-7's look trick with deep rims in the back and normal in the front. Who knows why? Anyway, good stuff! Keep it up.
