Ok heres what happened. I went to the car wash, then filled up the tank, then got on the highway. Well I got going for about 10 miles and all of a sudden I hear put put boom! Look up and see a puff of black smoke come out my tail pipe. Well I try giving it gas with no response so I take it out of gear and coast to the side of the raod. I tried to restart it and all it did is like put put pop, put put pop. Well I called my dad and he comes and I try it again. Well I get it started and it was running rough as crap. When I floor it it just revs to like 1-1.5k and back fires like crazy. We think it is either the fuel pump or jumped timing, what do you guys think?

could've gotten the distributor wet ... take the cap off and check things out. when it doesnt rev its a timing/distributor issue.

Maybe timing, but I doubt fuel pump. The fuel pump constantly puts out a certain pressure, no matter what rpm the engine is doing. (The line that doesn't go to the engine from the fuel filter is the return line, which takes the extra gas back to the tank). The fact of it back firing also makes me think that something else, more serious, is wrong.
That sucks about your car though, I had a Honda where a $2 crank oil seal leaked onto the timing belt (oil eats belts) and the belt broke causing over 200 in damage because there is no valve clearance..It's like getting a swift kick in the nuts.

It's possible the timing belt could have skipped a tooth.

Well the guy called and said my spark plugs were about shot and something in the distributor was stripped. Cost $132, oh well, gotta have a car.
