what could be wrong now?

lately my civic has a lot of starting problems... might be the california heat... 90+ degrees all day and a/c doesnt work!
i had a ecu code 16 earlier this week. i was told that the main relays were a common problem and replaced it with a new one. the old one smelled funny too :eek7: . then i unplugged the battery and replugged it again. car is error free.
now after i drive for a while and try to turn on the car again the starter seems to struggle then start. my dad cleaned and rebuilt the starter about 2 months ago and it started fine until then. it might not be the starter. the battery is a few months old too. i don't think it's the ignitor thing in the dist. cap. it's also a few months old.
today i drove about 50 miles at night and it wasn't hot either. the temp gauge went up to about 75% when i was going up a 10% hill. its never done that before. i turned on the heater on to bring it down. it worked and i drove for a couple more miles. after i shut the car down and tried to restart it, nothing happened :confused: the engine didn't turn or anything. the main relay was clicking too so i think that wasnt the problem. there were no error codes from the ecu.
finally i was playing with the fuses checking to see of any were blown and i happened to pull the alternator relay fuse. while it was out i turned the key and the motor struggled without starting. the fuse wasn't blown. then i replaced it with a spare and tried to start again. it struggled then started finally :p what could be wrong now? my car has about 142k miles on it.. stock everything.

well since you said yoru starter was struggling its one of 3 problems
1. your starter is no good
2. yoru battery is no good barely putting down enough volts to start the car
3. a ground is loose
4. something in the motor itself is causing alot of resistance, chekc your oil
as for your cooling problems, since when u put the heater on it worked, could be pretty much anythging, thermostat, waterpump, pressure lost somwhere like a leaking or loose hose, your radiator is bad, any one of those could cause overheating, make sure its not just low on water

my dad did some tests and he says its the cylinoid on the starter. like it wasn't popping or something.. thanks for the input.. i'll check the hoses and waterpump.

check ebay or get a fluidyne rad, for 400 atleast they are made of aluminum.

if you find a local radiator shop they might redo your old one for 50-100 bucks cash warrantied rebuilt rads shouldn't be more than 200 at napa or wherever oem is always a rip-off
