Like I said, I tried it already. Doesn't sound as good as firing straight up. I got a bigger range of tone this way.

Nice set up man, props. For anyone else looking for good subs check these guys out

www.hsuresearch.com

they specalize in sub's and make one for automotive applications. Here are some specs

12" , 13mm Xmax, 16-100 Hz frequency response, 100 db, $109 each. Read up in their review section, great info...lame site :(

Dont forget the main thing about all this, the sound resonance also happens inside the box, wether be it ported or non ported, and when it is ported, the length and diameter are crutial and they determine the frequency responce. so its not the direction the subs fire in, but the volume of box and ports. Thats the whole point of making a custom sub box.

the thing about his set up is this...

he has his subs facing the rear deck... putting a lot of pressure on those deck speakers when the bass hits (my guess is that the cones on his deck speakers will last 4-6 months max if he uses those w6's correctly :) )

and so he has ports as well... the ports are facing the end of the car- this part is good- it will traval back- and bounce and give him some distance... and he'll feel the resonance more (the shaking feeling of the bass)

the reason why you need distance is because low frequency waves are really really long- i think a 20hz wave stretches something like 15-20 feet for one full wavelength... soo- the more distance- the more he'll feel the resonance frequencies in his car... as opposed to shaking everyone else's cars around him (which will still happen because we al know that the car isn't 20 feet long.)

so- distance is good. he gets it with his ports. his deck speakers will need replacing soon- but since he's got all this cash into it- he'll be ok with replacing them... or better yet- putting a set of components in the rear doors for rear passengers and creating a WONDERFUL soundstage for rear passengers as well as front passengers.... do this- then just keep open holes to your trunk and let the bass flow in.

NOW - THAT- WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA...

good points, well made.

in my past experiences with this setup i.e. subs facing upwards towards rearshelf speakers, ive never encountered any problem with damage to the deck speakers,Also, this is with lesser quality speakers aswell. Anyway, ive noted your points, i keep a look out for any signs of damage. I sometimes tend to run the system without the subs, so hopefully spot any distortion damaged speakers may give, Cheers;)

that is really nice, but some people say that plexi glass inst good for subboxes which in some way is true. Personally, i dont give a damn if it looks that good.

casual, if you wanna, i can design the box, giving you the sizes required, but youll have to find someone to make it obviously. As for the next stage of my car, well......... who knows? after the turbo i might just find something else to do.

so i guess the wedding and honeymoon was a thumbs up.. congrats man!

as far as the design idea would i need to tell you what subs are going in to figure out sub space ?
but anyway if you mean overall design then cool lets get to work and i'll go get a pic of empty trunk of a g so i can draw up a idea or two, if anyone has a pic here of g trunk post the pic please so i can begin to draw some ideas i got a shop around here thats pretty good and helps me out because they rip so many people off on audio stuff as long as i have cash they hook me up with whatever i need..

i like how your new box idea is looking more flush with the trunk so i would like an idea sort of like that i have no space problems so cancel out spare tire and use all that too

im actually going away in the morning, down south near the capital and spending a few days with the family at a theme park. http://www.legoland.co.uk :D but the wedding was great, everything went fine.

back to subbox, i will need the spec of your sub(s), it may even come with them including options for various designs, remember to include port length and diameter if required. then ill need dimension for the available space in your trunk. as follows.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/163294bootspacesml.jpg
then like you say, a general idea of how you want it to look.
send me the spec, give me a few days cos im away and ill see what i can do.

As for my box, would you believe its still at the bodyshop getting fnished. theyve just been real busy with proper work to do mine. Nevermind, it might be done by next week.
