Project "smooth ass" ford focus

well i got a bit bored of my other projects the other night, and well i had a look at my ever growing pile of models.
The focus was crying at me, so i picked it up and started work on the body, well here is the list so far:-
Rear plate recess made flush with the rest of the tailgate.
Roof vent hole made flush with roof.
Door handles removed and flushed.
Door moldings flushed with body for a completely smooth door.
Sideskirts blended into rear quarters.
Front air intake smoothed off and central vent reduced in size.
Front honeycomb grill smoothed off to make it smoother and sleeker.
Rims are on their way and should be with me by saturday. they are 19" chrome rims which i cant remember the name of but look sweet.
Paint is going to be a flip paint of a red to purple flip
Hope you like:dogpile:

i just wanted my "street" focus to be different from everyone elses out there. as the focus is becoming more worldly i wanted to make something every one could apreciate .
smoothness is what i love, simplicity and fluidness
hope i can pull it off

Go with the Amistad v's they are excellent, I have a set but the box art is different, assume a different issue, Lets see some progress on this one :bigthumb:

i'd go with the amistad v's too, they have more of that looks/performance streetable look about them. i totally appreciate what you're doing with the focus. that's really admirable with the smooth thing going on. always seeing pics of ones with huge overdone body kits and jagged edges, and that's in 1:1 scale. keep up the good work. only question is, who makes that? i've been looking for something along those lines, but it sounded like the body kit was already on there. keep posting your progress, you've got something there.

Nice project, Chris. what color is the focus going to be?
=> the Amistad v's would be cool, I would suggest leaving the rims in chrome color
=> Fabulous would look good if the inner is the same color as body
just a thought......
hehe, n my name should be joecwlaw

as for the kit its a Ford Focus RS rally car kit, but got rid of all that rally parafinalia they come with and revert it to a street car, i have seen a few real Focus RS on the road near me and i love the body as is, also i just saw that they are releasing the road going Focus Cosworth, its gonna be a 300hp turbod nutter car!! cant wait, but can it live up to the Escort cosworth??????????????? hmmmmmmm. anyway, will have to wait till 2005 till its released, still its only 18 months away, lol.
BTW cheers for the support and compliments:icesangel

ok, never used the aoshima wheels before, are they of the female variaty? what is the diameter of the interior hole to mount the wheel on?
can i just add a length of plasic rod to make a male spur?
thank you, any one got a photo of the inside of one of these wheels?
even better has anyone fitted aftermarkets to a focus and have photos?

Chris, the Aoshima rims are female type. For fitting into the Focus, you need to have 2mm rod (either metal or styrene)
There may be a chance you need to cut out the female holding from the inside of the rims......take a look at this tutorial and you will have more idea......

Looking very good. Umm a question tho, on the last pic u posted u have an odd looking car with R34 polished rims and disc brakes the size of an XXLarge pizza what is that and how'd u get them brakes?
chrismcgee
07-23-2003, 07:05 PM
well the car in the background is my "real street astra". they are standard brakes, and ar huuuugggeeeeee, i love em, fill the rims nicely, may repaint them tho in red. not sure.
the kits is the tamiya astra touring car. i have remolded the front tho and a few other bits.

sweet, one day i'll have to build that car. I imagine that scale those brakes must be about 18'', very big power would be needed for those to be useful, very nice. Keep up the good work on the, "as said in the hood aka suburbia by white boys that think they black, FOCUZ".

How about some deep shiny red or bright green?
chrismcgee
07-24-2003, 08:37 AM
green is a possibility, green and black somehow???
i keep thinking that this is gonna be needing a colour changing paint, or a realy realy good pearl paint to show off the smoothness.
a blue to gold flip?

i am gonna need some help from anyone that can use photoshop as i cant!! i need to see what the focus will look like in a few different colours with the rims on, i am sitting in a can of ts14 black, but am considering a blue or others?
possible considerations are purple, or red, or even a green, im still unsure, i can airbrush or can spray, its just there is still no word from jimbob about my flip paint.
and my cars are going onto WWW.shockdesynz.co.uk
this is where people will be able to order a custom model up from me n stuff, the site is getting featured in max power in september as the guy who owns the company, andy, does all their graphics etc.
I think because its gonna get a lot of coverage then i will be able to get a lot of work through it. cool.
hmmmm possible plugs for SAS kit could be added for the right deal, lol.

Hey Chris...It just came to me. I know who sells that flip paint stuff. I don't know where your located. However, in the US at Wal-Mart they sell colorchanging paint by dupli-color. There is purple to green, red to gold and whatnot. It comes with a flatblack base coat the color coat and a clear coat for $18.96 plus tax thats USD money.

thats pretty cool but i went and bought 3 different colours last night to test for the focus:
1) a light blue pearl with a gold flip
2) a purple metalic that is quite light but is cool
3) a deep candy like blue with metaic flakes.
i am gonna try option 1 first, i want this baby to show her smooootttthhhhh ness as much as i can!
gonna slam it as much as possible as soon as i have finished tidying my new desk set up!

chris, been following this for a while, and i have to say this has got to be one of the cleanest focus's out there. many have tried, but where they have failed, you have succeeded. my congratulations on your job so far. hope the paint works out well. and hope your building job goes well. that's a hell of a lot of money to lose if something goes FUBAR. take it easy and keep up the good work.

that is the company, the paint is very expensive as it is extremely high quality, generaly its about £250 a litre, it comes in so many different flips plus you can mix it to give one off colours, its so sexy, mmmmmm.
the kit is a ford focus rally RS car, but any ford focus rally kit will do, just spend your time and have a master plan to suceed.

I used to mix it with the consistensy of milk. or if its a plain color i do 50/50. But don't take my word for it. I use spray cans. I suck with an airbrush. Oh yeah, chris, i plan to buy a regular focus rally car and just build it street similar. but still haev the vents, cage, lites etc. prolly just no decals.

build is good, plus you can trade the decals with someone for a set of wheels maybe

Hey Chris its lookin good
Paint should be with u tomoz i would have thought or Friday dependant on the great british post office.
As for spraying - just as u normaly would - these paints are not really special for application - milky consistency - I tend to put about 30% thinners in - the blue red (bits of gold etc) is pre thinned as i would spray - My spray guns are professional so atomization is fantastic hence slightly thicker paint -for airbrush just your norm will be fine
Good luck
JIM
