Sweet can't wait to see it painted. But take your time, don't want it to come out like shit. I purchased the focus rally car RS just waiting for it to come in.

Looking good Chris:bigthumb: - I was thinking about doing something similar with the Peugeot 206 WRC 02 but haven't got round to it - look forward to seeing it with the flip paint

chrismcgee
08-02-2003, 09:07 AM
well i have picked up the flip paint, and oh my god the rage paint it damn damn damn damn damn unbelievable, it looks like its electric, flipping so smoothly between shades, oh my god, plus i have also got 2 of jimbobs own flips a very sexy ble to red and an even sexier blue to green to purple! how cool is that, will probably have that one on my low rider skyline that is being started

Good to hear that the paint looks good. :eek7: :eek7: lowrider skyline, eh?

chrismcgee
08-02-2003, 03:37 PM
here is the low rider concept!

454SS
08-02-2003, 04:05 PM
Thats no lowirder. Lowriders have 13'' 250spoke gold and chrome wheels on lil tires with hydraulics, your thinking of a slammed, dubbed skyline.

chrismcgee
08-02-2003, 07:07 PM
thats what i mean, but i think it should be cool, only thing thats gonna happen to the body is smoothing of the door handles, indicators, front number plate mount, and front indicator mount points. but the biggest fuss will be getting it to sit that low, ahhhhhhh thats gonna need the dremmel to helpit along

454SS
08-02-2003, 10:59 PM
Chris... no dremel needed. I kinda slammed mine but its not that low. I was going for a 2'' scale lowering on it, but i cut to much of the springs and some of the rim sat in the well, but not that much, i can help you out with ways to get the body on the ground. since thats what ive done with most of my imports anyways.

chrismcgee
08-03-2003, 08:14 AM
that would be realy cool for some help, i was planning on creating some new axels and forgo the springs and dampers.
then use the discs direct on the axel.
that way i can get the height i will need, but any photos on how to do it with the standard axels and shocks would be great

joecwlaw
08-03-2003, 12:34 PM
more pics please chris.......hehe

chrismcgee
08-03-2003, 01:52 PM
well here are some more pics of the focus, i havent added the clear coat yet to give it deep shine. but i am planning on rubbing it down again as the flip paint has shown up problems in the black coat that i havent seen yet. its such a shame but i think other than that i am extremely happy with the results of the flip, very extreme and unlike the cheaper spray can flips it looks a lot smoother and flips more gently, mmmmmm

Hey chris it looks GR8! Love that paint. Umm i shulda suggested this first. You say this is a smooth car, hint the shaved handles, trim, and license plate box, you should shaved the mirrors too.

chrismcgee
08-03-2003, 03:09 PM
nah its a road car so its gotta have the side mirrors, but i like em, they show off the paint so well with their curved surface.

Gonna have a go at dropping the suspension soon, so much other things to do at the moment, work and at home.

But will get it done i promise

:bigthumb:

Hiroboy
08-03-2003, 05:59 PM
Coming along nicely, did you use an airbrush or rattle can?

chrismcgee
08-03-2003, 06:09 PM
well the base coat of black was tamiya ts14 which i will not be using again as it created bubbles and generaly was crap compared to their normal paint, but the rage flip paint was airbrushed on, it took only 4ml of the paint to cover the whole car! not bad eh.

it went on very easy and gave some damn fine results, but it has to be seen in for real to be believed

454SS
08-03-2003, 06:18 PM
Hey chris... i dont wana steal your idea, but since i myself will be doing a rally focus. I'd like to use the duplicolor chameleon paint, but there are other colors im considering. what do you think>?

chrismcgee
08-03-2003, 07:27 PM
copying is the most sincere form of flatery so i give my full permission to reproduce my car in any way possible as long as you give me some form of credit!! lol.

cant wait to see it

454SS
08-03-2003, 09:57 PM
Sweeet. But mine will not be completely shaved, as i don't like to play with putty and its a RPITA to sand in circles so it comes out smooth as possible. It may be a while before it comes in tho. Im planning on leaving it pretty much rally as i said cept no stikers, i've decided on a mod list: Scratchbuild aluminum wing, shaved handles, rims undecided, dual exhaust :bigthumb: , and possibly tinted windows, if i can figure out the best way to do it.

chrismcgee
08-04-2003, 03:57 AM
the best way to do tinted windows is with car window tinting film, its so easy to do and gives great results, i may do a tutorial if people think that it will be helpful. it is cheap and easy to do, but on the rear window its easiest to stick it to the outside rather than the inside where the heating element strips cause bubbles

Focus2000
08-04-2003, 05:39 AM
That really is astonishingly good flip-paint, much better than the others I've seen on kits. Like you say, the colours shift more smoothly.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay and how much did you buy?

chrismcgee
08-04-2003, 06:15 AM
well all the paint was aranged through jimbob, if you pm him im sure you can agree a price, its not too expensive and a little goes a long way, it took only 4ml to spray the whole car! not bad eh

454SS
08-04-2003, 09:11 AM
Chris it would be a big help if you made a tint tutorial as im sure it would work on any model, and is alot easier than using black clear coat which usually bubles and runs.

chrismcgee
08-04-2003, 04:47 PM
here is a little pic of my cars on my new diorama in progress.
i have totaly lowered the car but have struck the problem of the depth of the wheels and the shocks, its all gonna take a bit longer to put right.
will sort out some pics soon

454SS
08-04-2003, 10:03 PM
Chris did you cut the top out of that Z?

:wtf: TS14 is my fav Tamiya paint, TS26 is the bitch in my house

chrismcgee
08-05-2003, 03:56 AM
i dunno, i have always found that it creates these little "blowhole" bubbles in the paint just where you dont need them, im not sure why, it just pisses me off, think i will be sticking to halfords paints as i find them a lot more easy to use, also seems they come out of the tin a bit thinner letting me build up the layers nicely. but each to their own i suppose.

and yes i did chop the rood out of the z, wanted to make a targa top version, i did a thread a while back, targa top 350z i think i called it

joecwlaw
08-05-2003, 11:14 AM
yo Chris,

I modified the color of the rims on your Z......hope you dont mind,

just a little suggestion to you.

chrismcgee
08-05-2003, 12:35 PM
cheers joe, that does look pretty good, i like it.

but i think i may save it for another kit as i have 4 sets of them and gonna have to make em all just that little bit different, lol.

gotta sort the wheels now, i am planing on ripping out all the standard suspension possibly and replacing it with a straight thru axle

hondaaccordboy21
08-05-2003, 02:25 PM
MAN. i usually dont like the focus but thats awsome. Really good paint job 2. I always like the color changing paint. I saw a supra on the highway with it. Looked like the same color type as your focus. NICE all i can say!

chrismcgee
08-06-2003, 10:03 AM
Well last night i sorted the suspension out, well i took a pair of pliers to it actualy, lol.

i ripped it all out and drilled through the drive shaft as per hiro boys tutorial.

and it worked yay, i will post some pics tonight, btw i used wooden axels untill my 75mm x 2mm diameter steel axels turn up, that should do me for 50 cars because i have ordered 100 of them, hehehehe

hondaaccordboy21
08-06-2003, 12:12 PM
Im sorry you may have said this already. But what kind of kit is it and did you make the body kit?

chrismcgee
08-06-2003, 02:52 PM
the kit is a ford focus wrc rally car, just a standard tamiya kit realy, the body is standard except for the fact that i smothed over and re shaped loads of bits on the car its self, such as the front bumper and rear quarters.

chrismcgee
08-06-2003, 03:02 PM
here is a pic of the car sitting on its new axels, going to sort the ride height once the metal axels turn up

chrismcgee
08-06-2003, 03:03 PM
and here is a pic of the temp axels, drilled as per hiro boys tutorial

Chris,......looks great 2 :bigthumb: :bigthumb: 's up. It might just be me but i think the ride height is perfect. Unless you wanted to tuck some of the wheel into the well or something.

Absolutely love TS-14! I Wish I could use more often but I try to have my models in a variety of colors.

But Black TS-14 is my favorite! I'll have to do another model in it soon :thefinger

chrismcgee
08-08-2003, 03:36 AM
well i still think that im gonna be using halfords acrylic based black paint for my next respray of the focus, it seems such a shame that i have to rub off all that gorgeous pait, ah well perfection is never easy, lalalala.

can anyone tell me the dimension of a standard skyline r34's bellypan to the floor plese in mm, as i wanna know how much i gotta slam my dubed up r34, gonna be using new axles instead of the tamiya kit you see and i gotta drill some holes, cheers:bigthumb:

chrismcgee
08-13-2003, 07:52 AM
ok i know this thread has been quiet for a while but here is a bit of progress, the shell has been re sprayed again and has 8 coats of tamiya laquer on it! so its very shiny, in the background is my low riding dub skyline also in the same paint as the focus, anyone want a separate thread on the skyline?

chrismcgee
08-13-2003, 07:58 AM
