For all of you who want to know how i launch.
1st. As soon as im staged i immediatly pull the e-brake
2nd. Then i rev up to about 3000-4000 rpm's, and let the clutch out about half way (when it starts to grab, you ll know its grabbin, because you will be able to feel the car start to lean back into it), while keeping your foot on the throttle.
3rd. Then on the 3rd yellow light i drop the e-brake and throttle and feather the clutch relatively slowly to reduce wheel hop and spin, but at the same time, holding in the throttle to prevent the car from lugging.
Thats how i launch it seems, to really help 60ft times, because i can beat GSR's and i have beat and eclipse GSX 60ft times usually.
Now realize letting your clutch just start to grab and still being on the throttle is not good for your clutch what so ever so, dont be doing it at stop lights and such.
If you got ne questions just ask.

i could never launch like that. my ebrake couldnt stop my car even at 3k rpms. some of us have more than 100hp to the wheels :iceslolan
jk :evillol: sounds like a good way to launch but as you said very bad for brakes and clutch.

Yeah, it is pretty bad on the brakes and clutch thats why i only do it once everytime i go to the track so i can get my best time, and then i just do normal launching.

yeh my clutch has enough problems on its own... i think i might take it easy on that one. so what constitutes as normal launching??
Options
08-18-2003, 11:54 PM
I dont think there is ne set definition for what normal launching is, but if you asked me normal launching would be revving the motor to about 3500 and then on the 3rd yellow dropping the clutch and putting the pedal to the medal.

Alright a few tips of advice.
Leave on the 3rd yellow.
Lower your tire pressure to about 20 pounds in the front leave the back same.
And you can try if you want the way i launch, i have noticed it helps my 60 ft times a lot so if you wanna try it once you can.
Oh you remove your spare tire and every thing else like tools pop cans, what ever you have in there.
If you got ne other questions let me know.
P.S. you could do the Throttle Body Coolant by pass. Its cake it only takes about 5 mins, and it does add H.P. i dont know how it does, i just no it does, because before i did the by pass my best time was a 16.55, and then i did the coolant bypass and it was a 16.4 so i guess it does add some h.p.

Options, it sounds like when you launch, you are using the E-brake as a line-lock. I know lots of RWD cars have line locks installed so they can lock the front brakes while the rear wheels spin as they throttled before lauching. I know Summit Racing still sells line locks. The E-brake functions like a Line-Lock on FWD cars since the rear brakes get locked and the front wheels can still spin. It sounds like thats what you are using it as when you launch, a line-lock for the rear brakes.

I don't remember who it was who said their e-brake couldn't hold them in place doing that. For the E-brake to function like a line lock, you have to keep ot tight, once it starts getting lose and you have to pull up higher and higher to get it to get stiff, it won't function like a line-lock well. I am guessin that options, you keep your e-brake adjusted nice and tight, so it will hold as a line lock, correct? To who it was that said their e-brake couldn't hold, have it adjusted so it is tighter, that should help you so it will function as a line-lock for your rear wheels, like options does with his. Also, Options, you are right on, that is actually a VERY good way to launch. It is bad for your clutch and brakes, but then again, it's drag racing. I am suprised more people don't launch like that, thats how my cousin launched back in the muscle car ear when he dragged, except with a real line-lock for the front wheels. I know when speed and good times in concerned, thats the best way to launch, all the top dragsters have launched like that for years, with line-locks. The Proof of it is in your 1/4 mile and 60-ft times (and you most likely are very good at shifting at the optimum point too, cuz those are hella good times for your car. I bet you'd smoke with a heavily modded and boosted motor.)

Yea, I was pretty sure you constantly adjust your e-brake to keep it tight once I read how you launch. I've actually met very few people who launch like that, I'm supirsed. Do many people at PIR launch like that, cuz from the people I've talked to in the past, mostof them don't? I've actually never made it to PIR. I've know about it forever, since they frist started really talking about it a few years back, past it tons to times during the drags, never stopped in. I've been meaning to check it out though. Maybe I'll have to stop in there tomarrow or something. You gonna be there tomarrow (sat). I'll definatly look for your car when I go, I'm trying to finally make it there before the end of the month. If your going tomarrow, post and let me know, I'll try and make it there.

Nope no one usually launches like that around PIR, except people from GZM (Groundzero Motorsports), Brian the one who ownes the 10.9 red hatch is the one who told me about it.

I am not suprised that people from GroundZero launch like that. They are all about racing there. If ppl at PIR really were serious, they'd be smart to do it too, it would really cut down on there times. Of course, it's better for the ppl that do it if they don't gives us all an extra edge, lol. Brian, I think I know who he is. His hatch is the Red EK hatch, correct, red, I think purple of some vinyl or painted design on the side. Got his bodywork done at Fox Autobody? I know they have the white hatch with the Integra-Type-R conversion in the showroom a lot. I know about a year ago Paul, Kenny and David where working on a LS/Vtec Hatch for drag racing at Woodburn. I think it was in the 11's when I talked to them, but it ws stripped to hell, lol. Did you go to PIR this weekend? I wanted to go to the NHRA NW national sport compact drags at woodburn this weekend, but I couldn't afford it. Second year I missed it too. Oh well. Do you go to GroundZero a lot? Ralph Friend, one of the owners now, along with Kenny and Paul, is pretty cool. He has a sweet RX-7 and Supra. His Supra won something @ the July HIN in seattle, his Mazda was Best Mazda @ the March HIN. I know his Supra cleaned up at the Local Import Life Episode 3 in June. A lot of the turbo stuff on his Supra they manufactored themselves in house. It took about a year to to the Supra, Ralph and Paul said. Kenny, Paul and Ralph are all pretty cool. Have you ever raced at Woodburn? Let me know if u plan on going to PIR this coming weekend, I might go check it out.

also.... in light of turbo's , my tuner (a guy strait outa Japan. gets kinda hard to understand when he talks fast lol, ) is promising and guanteeing that if i let him turbo my civic , same motor and everything she'll do 12's... or my money back!! and he's been doing this guantee on sohc d series engines for 11 years... and he gets a lil pissy when u tell him u dont believe...he drives a sohc d series engine and it does it... he's very strait up, and provides plenty of proof and a freakin money back guantee!! also, all the garb on the street say's that he know's his shit, and will do whatever he says he can!!! however... it is a 3k job, for a f-max turbo kit and tune. so he firmly believes in my sohc, and loves the engine ( why else would he have one) however also in engine swaps! on his show floor he has a pre-set up engine (i believe a B series) turbo'd and for the entire swap its 8k, but he says if done right that engine alone is a 10 sec. its the shit...and he says, that with a swap i may have more potential in the future...
hey man.....are you in texas, san antonio to be exact....i know a similar Japenese dude that fits that same bill.....Precision R?.....cause he's been trying to me to get that same F-max kit for my car....it's a pretty penny but I heard it's a good kit due to the extra injector and a thick ass head gasket.....he's trying to get me to put the NOS bottle down....hahaha.....aight....this really has no relavance to what the original post asked....i was just wondering

Options, sorry I didn't make it to PIR. I went out to start my car and....no go...damn thing wouldn't crank. The battery didn't have enough juice to start it. Maybe it had something to do with me jumping my sisters dead rx-7 (really dead) at midnight. I have an idea why it happened, just dumb on my part. I finally got it to crank at like midnight, but PIR stops selling tix at midnight, so it was to late. Once I started it, drove it for like 50 miles on the freeway, battery has juice and it cranks now. Kind of stupid on my part. Oh well, it's fine now. So, baring inclimate weather, I'll be there next weekend.

I would do that

Options, did u go to PIR last night, friday? I got there late, like 10:30, after the DB limit was in place. I didn't see you there, I figured you already left. Are you going again tonight (Baring rain, lol, it's suppose to rain late tonight). I'll be there, probably get there between 7-8pm.

PIR = Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon. So it would serve the southwestern washington area as well as northwestern oregon (portland, etc). I am guessing you are from a part of washington not around portland/vancouver?

Man, the Civic is a car with a lot of potential. Screw the VR-4, parts are twice as expensive. Just modify your Civic.

:iagree:
The Civic may be a bland base to start with, but if you have patience (and a little money), you can turn it into one hell of a car.

Yea, it's pretty long. I once started a thread on turbo'd b18's and ls/vtecs that went about 15 pages before it died off. Still, 8 pages is quite long :bigthumb:.

awsome! yeh, the parts are twice as expensive as the civic, but ur getting a hell of a lot better start off!! (stock civic's low 16's, stock vr-4, low 13's!!) and the results will be better! and on top of that... maybe its diff. where yall are, but down here... the civic is like... freakin everywhere !!! i thought id be unique if i hand picked me some ground effects and junk... didnt work... in my college parking lot, theres 2 other's with the exact same stuff! plus the inumerable other riced up civics! and its like... even if i went all out and did turbo's and crap like that, there are still plenty who have done that here! like i know of off quite a few turbo'd civics(not to mention bottle fed!) also... one thing ive noticed, if a chick asks me what kinda car i have and i say i have a fixed up fast civic, she's just like oh... thats cool. but if i say yeh im thinking about getting a 3000gt vr-4 she's like, OOOH MAN those are awsome!!! (the second one is the response i like better... maybe just me but) and last but not least... my car has some kinda ancient chinese curse or some shit! i swear... like some old chinese dude in the honda factory thought he'd be funny and put like a curse on my car!! everything that can happen... has! and then some! ive spent way too much time and money just trying to keep my car in decent condition! (still working on that!! like for real, yall have no clue how bad its been, and the shit ive gone thru with this thing!) and so its just like... i got burned out! just ready to scrap it and start out anew car. and this time i was thinkin bout choosing the VR-4 rather than the civic. soo... but im always open so, if yall still think i should go civic... i'll hear reasons. But i still love Honda's!! as previously mentioned id like to pick up a cheaper one as like my daily!

Well, I shall reply to the anceint curses qoute you had about your civic. I seemed to have had the same luck after I origanally bought my civic. However, I decided it was not the car that was cursed, but the plate (first 3 numbers were 566, lol, one number off). So, I promptly changed my plates after my bad luck could not get any worse (no really, it couldn't have get much worse at the time). So, I changed the plates, and it seemed with that, my bad luck I had connected with the plates disappeared. The moral of this messed up story? Maybe changing your plates, shall also work for you, and lift your curse, lol. Hey, at least somone replied with a thought, lol. If nothing else, this post is good for a laugh I guess.

take your civic to a speed shop and have them build you an entire tube frame chassis to support rear wheel drive and big motor. drop yourself a twin turbo corvette motor in there and you'll be smokin everybody. It would cost about the same as it would to take a honda 4cyl and make it run 10s in a 1/4 mile.
