Anyone have a larger version of either of these two pics? I found them today and the website didn't have larger versions of either one.

http://a5.cpimg.com/image/09/00/21197065-1eb8-00960063-.jpg http://a6.cpimg.com/image/0A/00/21197066-7f8f-007E0050-.jpg

I suppose that the first one could just be some trick camera work on a diecast, but the second photo looks to be a scan from a magazine.

Thanks in advance!

i think i have seen the one on the left before, i dont remember where from. i might have been when i was searching for some pics on a search engine, but i dont remember which one.

ill give my hand in looking for it...

slightly off topic:

does anyone have the full sized version of this pic? this one has a lot of the sky cut out of it. there used to be the full size one at this link...

Here's one more 'thumbnail' that I would love to get a larger version of.

http://a0.cpimg.com/image/00/C6/21203200-af06-0101005F-.jpg

This small photo of an F1 GTR leaves me quite confused because as far as I am aware, there was never a GTR that was sponsored by Lloyds. I actually think I know which GTR it is, and which series it competed in, but I can't be certain until I can find more information. If anyone has other photos or knows the history on this car, I'd love for you to share it.

It's very rare for me to be confused when it comes to F1 GTR's. ;) :D

another thumbnail related request:

i am told that this is the interior of an F1 GT. i found it on kazaa.

can anyone confirm this being an F1 GT?

Peloton25
07-17-2003, 12:09 AM
That is a shot of the interior of 56XPGT - the F1 GT prototype.

There are other F1's, like that Blue #011 HDF car and XP4, that have had their interiors refitted to match that of the GT's. Compare some photos and you will see what I mean. It's mostly noticeable in the pleating on the side seats.

I've never seen another version of it with the background if that's what you mean. There is another photo of this car's interior - it's the first photo in the interior thread that jkbon posted. There is also a photo of the steering wheel and gauges but I haven't seen any other pics of that car that I am aware of.

I didn't have to wait till I got home - I just found the photo on their website.

It was taken at Laguna Seca Raceway on Sunday September 9th, 2001. I'm not sure which race team had it on display - but it appears there was a Grand Am race there that day.

hehe, you quoted the wrong thing. thanks for the pic. who do you mean by "their" tho?

Peloton25
07-17-2003, 04:52 PM
quoting schmoting :p

"Their" website is the website that thumbnail came from...

I know you found it on Google by searching images using "mclarenxp4"

That brings up two images. So I took the URL of the thumbnail and broke it down - stripping out the info that Google applies to it, leaving this as the URL:

www.milleracing.com/atrace/images/T_McLarenXP4-1.jpg

I noticed that image was still active on that server.

The "T" in the file name implies that it's a thumbnail - a lot of people tag their files that way - so I tried taking that out:

www.milleracing.com/atrace/images/McLarenXP4-1.jpg

Don't click that - it won't work...

Then I proceeded to strip the URL back trying to get a list of files or something else to load...

www.milleracing.com/atrace/images/

www.milleracing.com/atrace/

And eventually, I tried this:

www.milleracing.com/

That URL worked and I got to "their" site.

When the page loaded, I clicked on "Photos". That brings up a list of all the three years they have race photos from - 2001, 2002, & 2003.

I figured I would start at the bottom, as I know that the other photo is kind of old. I also know that car is located in the Bay Area, so I made an educated guess that the picture would have come from a race track in that region.

I started with Sears Point, as I know that XP4 has been seen there before. That turned out to be wrong.

Then I switched to Laguna Seca - and halfway down the page, you will find the thumbnails for those two photos.

I clicked on the one you were looking for and found the large image.

Incidentally, the file name of the large version simply relpaced the "T" with an "L":

www.milleracing.com/atrace/images/L_McLarenXP4-1.jpg

And that, my friend, is how you find those 'hard to find' McLaren F1 images...

I don't think I've ever seen the first one you're looking for. It's hard to tell if that shot is of Kennedy's McLaren taken from the recent Road&Track article or if that is the last McLaren F1 road car taken at the time the "Driving Ambition" poster was shot. I'll figure it out though, and might be able to find a better version of the photo for you. I know that I would like to have one.

Help me out though - can you tell me where you found that thumbnail??

The second one I am certain I have in a larger size, but even the original isn't terribly big unfortunately. I'll hook it up a little later.

Yeah - I don't have the poster handy to compare unfortunately...

Personally, I hate the shot used for the poster - it's boring in my opinion. I know they were going for a theme there, but I think this shot would have made for a much more appealing poster of the car than that one. If I was actually going to hang the poster on the wall, it would go photo side in and I'd just stare and the chassis history and race history all the time. :D

I think that is Tom Gloy Racing. They raced the Qvale Mangusta in the Trans Am series for a year or two right around that time with Tommy Bahama sponsorship. I remember seeing a blue F1 a few years ago parked under their tent (can't remember which track though).

Now, on to some more thumbnails.

There happens to be a website called www.carpix-photo.com that sells photos online. You can either buy a monthly membership to download photos, or pay for each individual photo that you want. Sounds cool enough, but their prices are a bit ridiculous.

For high res photos (approx 2400x1600) the monthly membership fee is £300.00. For medium res photos (approx 640x480) they want £150.00 per month for access. Now, like I said - you can buy the individual photos you want, but again the prices are rather high. If you have no plans for commercial use of the image it's $35.00. That wouldn't be so bad in my mind if they were printing the photo for you, but they aren't, that's just the price for the image file. OUCH!! If you actually plan to publish the image, then the price goes up to $100, or $200 depending on planned circulation. There is no license for web use of the images btw, except if you plan to use them at a resolution smaller than 320x240 and include the carpix.net copyright line with each one.

These are the McLaren photos they offer @ 2400x1600 for $35 a piece:

http://www.carpix-photo.com/thumbnails/20-0288.jpg http://www.carpix-photo.com/thumbnails/20-0289.jpg http://www.carpix-photo.com/thumbnails/20-0290.jpg

I have the 1st one @ 480x318, the 2nd one @ 640x372 (cropped) & this 3rd one @ 450x238

I have the 4th one @ 420x237, the 5th one @ 400x299, and have never seen the 6th

They also have another site where they offer even higher resolution photos called CarPix Ultra - www.carpix2.com The resolution on these photos would be better for printing a poster - but the prices per image are even higher - again not printed for you, just the image file!!

Size: 51.5Mb (5250 x 3427pixels) RGB @ 300dpi - minimum price $125

One of the other things that bothers me about this site is that they have not only photoshopped out the license plates and put their little "CARPIX.net" logo on them, but they have also removed the "XP5" logo on the shots where it would be seen. Why???

I understand that the photographer deserves some money if you plan to use these photos and I think that is certainly fair. Their pricing structure seems a bit high to me though, and I can't believe that they don't offer prints. There are other sites out there with professional car photos like these that will sell you a print for the same money or less even. What are they thinking?? I mean how many publications are even going to want to pay those prices for images of a car that is over 10yrs old. The only articles you see now on the McLaren are basically new ones using a customer's car for fresh photos - unless a magazine like CAR does something like the F1 sidebar on the Enzo article they wrote. In that case, I'm certain they're just pulling the images from their own internal archive and maybe paying some royalty to their own photographer who originally took them.

Anyway - if you happen to have a larger version than I do of any of these photos that I have, or more importantly any of the ones I don't have please feel free to share it. If you can't tell from my post - I'm not planning on becoming a carpix.net customer anytime soon....

Click the photo

They are all shots from the 1997 FIA GT race at Laguna Seca.

The prices are a little more resonable - and you can get a print, not just an image file. It's $15 for an 8x10 print up to $50 for a 16x20.

Just thought some of you might be interested.

Seriously - if your reply comes right after the post you are responding to, you don't even need to quote anything at all. Also, rather than quoting the entire post, you could just quote a sentence or two. Like this would have been sufficient:
