205/40/16 = 205mm wide tread, 40mm tall sidewalls, and a 16in inner diameter
225/50/16 = 225mm...
rubber grade is determined by letters, and you'd have to ask someone w/more knowledge than me to get the run down on that

THE 40 DOES NOT MEAN IT HAS A 40MM SIDEWALL!!!!!!
IT MEANS THAT THE SIDEWALL HEIGHT IS EQUAL TO 40 PERCENT OF THE TIRE'S WIDTH!!!!
IT MEANS THAT THE SIDEWALL HEIGHT IS EQUAL TO 40 PERCENT OF THE TIRE'S WIDTH!!!!

225 is much wider than 205, and the size of the rim could affect your your speedo, but it all depends on if you get the right size tire.
