Hey everyone,

I'm looking to pick up a new car soon for about 30k CDN. Looking more for looks, but performance is fairly important, as well. New driver, so I expect insurance will be stupidly high, no matter what I buy.

Anyways, I'd like your advice for picking a vehicle. Right now, I'm looking at getting either a WRX or a Mazda 6 GSV6. Any opinions, or other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If you're wanting a Subaru but want to keep the insurance premium down, consider a 2.5RS, still got enough power to be fun, has a very tunable engine and because it isn't turboed the insurance should come down.
Since you're in Canada, you will benefit from the AWD too.

The Mazda 6 is nice, but every Mazda I have owned has developed cancer very quickly....

The biggest advantage the WRX has over the 2.5RS (aside from the extra 70 HP) is the rear limited slip differential. I've been very happy with my 99 2.5RS over the last two winters with lots of snow, and it does have enough power for a daily driver, so if you're trying to keep the costs down a bit, the 2.5RS is the way to go.

About insurance: my premiums are about 70 USD (full coverage) a month for my WRX, I don't think there is a difference from the RS. My insurance co. classifies the both as 4-door sedans. Insurance is also low becuase of the great safety ratings of subaru.

Dude if you have 30K to spend get a STI, it has the looks and mad stock power, dunno about insurance rates but, its a great car all around.

I'm pretty sure the '02+ Rs's have a rear LSD don't they? I know my TS does NOT.

nope, the 02+ 2.5RS's have the viscous-coupling locking center differential, but no rear LSD.
