00 lw2 no heat problem

Hey everyone I have the 2000 lw2 3.0 li engine. I have no heat coming coming from the heater core. I'm thinking it can only be the thermostat or the auxiliary coolant pump. Before I go and start changing the thermostat how do I check/troubleshoot the coolant pump? Thank you in advance.
