The brake pedal was deleted from the surface. The monocoque was coated with a Tamiya Surface Primer and then painted with Tamiya TS 14.

Awesome work. Am I right to assume you will be decaling the CF the correct weave as the real car?

09-24-2014, 10:53 AM
to Honny: Yes, I want to apply decals as close as possible to the real car. The most decals have already included in a Studio 27 set. But there is need to create new decals for many surfaces of the monocoque.

I got my kit & Studio 27 decals over the weekend, Very impressed with the kit, I can see why your going to so much trouble to better replicate the engine bay! Cant wait to see more!!

da_ashman: Congrats. Hope you will enjoy. Some words about the engine bay. As we know the Veneno is based on the Aventador chassis. But when we look through the body openings in the rear end we can see some differences (e.g. the muffler, the air channels, the subframe, the trims, the brackets etc.). The problem is I didn't have any photo of Veneno with opened engine hood. I have wrote to Fujimi company and to Lamborghini company to help me with those photos, but didn't receive an answer from them. If anybody have such photos, please, share them for me! Otherwise I will have to improvise.

i haven't used polyester auto putty since i use a general wood replacement putty in scratchbuilding/recasting parts so the question is - would the poly putty attack the plastic or not? i've experienced tamiya putty (gray) melt plastic around it after i used it as filler (which resulted in a sunken exterior door panel).
stratos75
10-07-2014, 04:20 PM
would the poly putty attack the plastic or not? Slightly yes. But I think it depends on different types of a polyester putty. That is the reason why the polyester putty doesn't have a good adhesion to PS plastics. To improve the adhesion I always coat a surface with a thin layer of a cyanoacrylate cement and let it to completely cure before applying of a putty.

Started to change the contemporary hinge to the regular. At first, as always, I have made supports for the axle position both on the door and body.

The second hinge is ready. For those who will repeat by me: pay attention to the thiсkness of the front flange. You should reduce it to prevent a collision with the front fender during a door opening (shown by red arrows). The right door has an original thickness.

Yes, it is absolutely crucial. I failed at my first try in the past because I didn't thin the plastic and instead I tried to work on a more complex hinge. Thanks for pointing out.

Some further work with the doors. The inner surface almost done. The thickness of the door's flanges was decreased. There is only need to round up all sharp edges and to add the second sealing. Also the gaps should be decreased (they are huge in the kit to my opinion). The rear gap on the right door has corrected. http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/5113/14224223.49/0_a3065_bc53a7ec_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/667749) http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/2710/14224223.49/0_a3064_f8f8436a_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/667748) http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/5506/14224223.49/0_a3063_dcca6319_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/667747) http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/6815/14224223.49/0_a3062_696e8bf3_XL.jpg (http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/mikhailpetrenko/view/667746)

Awesome progress. You must of spent many hours on the doors alone - and well worth it!
Can you share us your tips/steps you applied to minimise panel gaps(between the door and body?) Was it simply a process of applying putty and sanding it down until the gaps sits flush?

Yes. I have applied a Tamiya Epoxy Putty (green box) and after 5-6 hours sanded it down with periodical matching to the body.
You can see the wrong gaps on the front and the rear of the door on the left side (they are not corrected yet). I don't like them.

in your pursuit of "realistic" panel gap between doors and body, have you taken into account that primer and paint will add thickness?
